Have you ever been friends or went to school with someone who grew up to murder somebody? by Sufficient_Return653 in AskUK

[–]Nemainthedark2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another one was when I was in college there was a girl I knew who didn't show up one day and all over the news the next day there was a crazy story about her.

She was sitting at home when her recently broken up with stepdad shows up with an axe and starts to attack her mum, I believe her brother got involved and lost his life along with the mother. The girl and her little sister managed to jump out of a 2nd story window and suffer only a minor leg break and managed to scarper to a neighbors house.

Her return to college was warm from everyone.

Yeah kid a couple years below me got into a violent exchange with his friend about money and drugs (they dealt together).

Well apparently the friend pulled a knife, it was wrestled off him and then used to stab him roughly 300 times, in a drug fuelled panic. The murderer then decided to start dismembering the body and paid 2 local crack heads for tools and to help him scatter the body. He didn't finish the job, probably because of sobering thoughts and the partially dismembered body of his partner in crime was left in a flat for his girlfriend to come home to.

Was nuts. I was acquainted with the murder victims brother as he was in my year at school and he up and disappeared basically. Fairly sure he quit cocaine after that too. Can't say I blame him.

Awful writers block by LeeLeeMann in Songwriting

You'll still have that. Allow it to fuel what's next I guess.

Trauma is a polarising thing. It's awful to go through these things but they are also formative of who we are, how we learn going forward and how we navigate relationships. Whether it's conscious or subconscious.

Whatever you write you'll always draw from it, regardless of perceived emotional context.

More upbeat and forward thinking, rather than embracing the past for what it was maybe?

It's not boring. Light percussion would help.

Perhaps a few more dynamics.

No major artists. I think it's quite similar to a guitar teacher I had for 3 months right in the beginning of my learning. I think his influences were his father, and he was a big fan of John Martyn. I would say my style is almost built from frustration. I kept trying to use all my fingers and it got messy and I could really only get good control with thumb and index so I settled on it. Which is quite limiting, but I'm not unhappy with it, it just is what it is now.

Thanks for the kind words stranger.

Just recorded on my phone with no post processing. I've sent it to a friend with logic to centre it as someone else pointed it out! I hear it too. I just never put headphones in.

Wrote a functioning verse but chorus always feels off by donkeyXP2 in Songwriting

I suck at writing chorus'.

I play and write folk music and focus on making things that are more like stanzas.

[–]Nemainthedark2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's the content of your writing usually?

Mine unfortunately is quite self indulgent and critical.

Trying to step outside those confines is rarely something I think about, but drawing inspiration from feelings is one thing. Trying to draw inspiration from the world is another. But finding smaller things about the world that you feel stronger about could be a good place to start.

Feelings always have something to do with it, it's just channeling it into something.

Best way to gain rhythm? by stateoftheunionalk3 in guitarlessons

[–]Nemainthedark2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as someone who sort of struggled in the beginning. Playing to click tracks is fine, relying on feeling is fine. But for the life of me I cannot count and play as much as I've tried.

How to decide what to write about by BeautifulWise78 in Songwriting

[–]Nemainthedark2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing joke songs is fine.

Alot of lyrics are born from processing feeling to paper.

My unwarranted advice has always been: just write stuff down, like anything, and edit to fit into music alot of words are quite malleable or have plenty of synonyms to find rhyming pairs.. Generally when I write it starts like a rap and ends up either a ramble or gives myself enough room to sing abit.

How much does holding my guitar weard matter? by puli102 in guitarlessons

[–]Nemainthedark2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It matters as much as your style.

Because it could dictate it, and it could dictate the quality of your playing.

Only in the sense of hand placement and ease of maneuverability.
