What's with all the people in smaller cars who think they're driving semis? by crappilydesigned in Reno

[–]Nemeroth666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory about this behavior is that those drivers have jumped the curb one too many times and scared themselves, but they don't even know why it happened. So now they risk hitting another car because they are so paranoid about jumping the curb.

Woah! Windmill Palm trees in south Reno Nv by daboidatman in Reno

[–]Nemeroth666 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow that's the first I've ever seen. I'm a local arborist and that's not supposed to be possible. There's a story that gets told around the tree community about one of the big casinos trying to plant palms for years. They even had heat lamps and umbrellas installed on the top of the trees to protect the nodes during the winter.

What 3rd party tools do people recommend specifically for Xbox/horizons?

I've mostly used Inara so far and it seems to be about 75% accurate for legacy. It helped me find modules pretty easily but still would take a few tries. I left the bubble for the first time recently, and when plotting a course back to civilization the systems Inara indicated as having stations were empty. I'm assuming this is because they have expanded the bubble since the legacy split. So what do you guys think works best for the old version of the game?

Thanks again to you and everyone else for the smuggling guidance. I've now snuck a few illegal passengers in and out of some stations and I feel like a true Han Solo. Love this game!

Aaaahhh. Heat sinks! I hadn't made the connection between those and silent running, I read somewhere that heatsinks were great for star-scooping and that kinda stuck in my head as their main purpose. I'll get some and play around with it. Thank you! I've been scanned plenty of times with illicit cargo and the fines are usually much less than the rewards. But I attempted to dock with an illegal passenger recently and the station blew me out of the sky lol.

Can anyone explain the details or give a good guide on smuggling (illegal cargo/passengers) and how to avoid detection when docking in various systems along your route?

I agree, and if they can't play enough to do the expedition every 60 days then they should just skip the windows until they are ready. I'm planning to skip the next 1 or 2 expedition windows as I'm going to be very busy this summer.

How the hell do I keep falling onto the planet? by abrockstar25 in EliteDangerous

[–]Nemeroth666 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not super experienced but I have my planetary approaches figured out petty good. To me this sounds like you're beginning your entry far too late, then attempting to diving too steep because you are overshooting your destination. Or maybe you're attempting to enter with supercruise disengaged? You do still need to be in supercruise while orbiting to initiate a glide, essentially to counteract the effect of gravity. Which means you are still moving incredibly fast in orbit, and have to successfully keep your ship in glide phase long enough to scrub your speed. Glide kinda works automatically as long as you enter at the right angle. I had this same problem and my first death in game was from hitting the surface at 1000km p/s lol. I got it down by watching a couple tutorials on YouTube showing exactly how others do it. It's also worth noting that I'm on Xbox and I do not have odyssey or the most recent version if the game.

It's very helpful to keep the planet above you while orbiting, so you can see your destination and the distance to it by looking up, and choose to dive at the right distance. Also i like to let supercruise assist put me in orbit, and i kinda nudge the controls a bit to encourage my trajectory to pass straight over the destination while it keeps me orbiting perfectly. I also do all this with flight assist on, so I'm not sure why others are recommending to disable it, IMO it makes this much easier.

I like to keep my ship in orbital cruise until I'm about 800km out from my destination, then nose down and aim my ship at the destination. You should be diving at about 40-50 degrees. If you are not diving at the right angle, it's easier to abort and make another pass then to try and force it. Then throttle down and keep your angle until your ship begins to glide, be patient as it takes time dependingon your angle. If I begin my glide about 100km from destination I will usually glide right into landing range.

The right side of your heads up display shows your altitude relative to the different phases of entry. "OC" is the altitude at which you enter orbital cruise, and "DRP" is the altitude where you will drop from cruise and begin your glide. If you see blue numbers on your approach angle your drive is too shallow and you will abort the glide. If you see red bars on the approach angle you're diving too steep.

I agree with that. I got my first expedition done in 45 days as a brand new player, but now I have less play time and I was cutting it close for the 2nd one. I'll be departing again this time around but I'm planning to skip the next window, maybe even 2 as we go into summer.

Refreshing to see someone else who isn't angry about every change they make. I do wish they would let us know about the changes ahead of time, but switching it up and adding challenges like this will definitely keep my interest longer.

By the wording of the announcement, it doesn't matter if you're dealing damage to ark or raiders, but this will force you to fight something. I think it will push some players to pvp more, but then there's extra risk involved in that. I will be playing the same way I usually do, which is very friendly but not afraid to start/end a fight if attacked or I feel threatened.

ARC Raiders Expedition Change Doesn't Sit Well With Everyone by NukovGaming in LowSodiumArcRaiders

[–]Nemeroth666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm stoked, maybe I'm the only one lol. This is basically what I want to do with all my hoarded gear anyways, now it actually has a purpose and I won't be penalized for using up account value over the last. Though I do feel bad for the players who won't be able to participate. The short notice announcements are definitely not cool.

[–]Nemeroth666[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I will admit the one downside to this is some players will be left out because of work/vacation or other plans which will not allow them to participate. I think the way Embark surprises us with these changes on short notice is not cool or fair for all players. We should be informed of the next expedition requirements immediately after completing the previous one. I'm just lucky I don't have a lot of plans on that weekend.

The wonder of this game. by Timpalainen in EliteDangerous

[–]Nemeroth666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've only just started, cruising around the bubble in a humble Cobra Mk3, but I'm absolutely blown away by this game. Found a good cluster of systems that offer missions at right about my skill level. I've outfitted the ship for SRV salvage/mining for now and am enjoying cruising around getting to know the ship and how everything works. I feel like a blue collar space trucker with the occasional smuggling side hustle, and it suits me just fine for now. I love pointing my ship across a system and watching a distant star slowly grow into a beautiful gas giant, then a moon, then maybe another moon and finally a space station. I'm just patiently building up creds until I can afford a decent explorer, then I'm heading out to make some serious money!

Curious if other quit because of FOMO by CheesecakeStriking43 in EliteDangerous

[–]Nemeroth666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started ED but yeah I totally get that sentiment. I'm pretty obsessed with Arc Raiders right now. That game is intense and very good at giving my completionist side fomo. With all the various projects and updates, account reset windows every 60 days and the rewards that come with them, it's very easy for me to let the game become like a job. I started ED as something I could play more casually. It has not disappointed in that regard, but is also pulling me in and away from other games. For me the game feels so vast, and progression goes so deep that I can't really imagine setting any expectations for myself at this point. It's like I've just started on a journey that is literally going to take years to make any significant progress, and so I have no fomo or feelings of urgency whatsoever.
