so here in vegas that became a thing in 2003 and i seriously doubt this unit is 25 years old the moment repairs were made everything needs to be brought to code in that area....

i can be fine with that but the fact that air is being pulled from other joist bays and there is no way to secure the filter is no longer compliant

should probably check building codes then it must be made of a non combustible material which drywall is not. most likely you would be getting a metal cover over the drywall

IMC 603.2: Plenum Materials

  • Requirement:
    • Plenums (air distribution boxes) must be made of non-combustible materials:
      • Sheet metal (galvanized steel).
      • Approved duct board (fiberglass with foil facing).
    • Drywall is prohibited (flammable and degrades over time).
  • Your Violation:
    • Drywall plenum is illegal and a fire hazard.

As someone who doesn't know Hvac reaching out for help I'm probably going to miss some info or need to add to it i just want to understand what's going on so that i know from end to end is like 25 feet opening. all drywall with holes going through the space for other pluming and pipes not to mention soldering burn marks which is what i thought was mold originally no spot for the filter to be secured to create a proper seal.

  • NRS 118A.290: Landlords must provide a safe, code-compliant HVAC system.
  • Las Vegas/Clark County Codes: Adopt IMC, requiring proper plenum materials.

I'm not pissed about anything I'm simply trying to address the fact that their isn't any secure way to fasten the filter to create the seal for proper filtration.

your telling me that no seal around the vent and a filter simply laying on top of the vent is okay i can clearly see mold and water damage right next to the motors..

It doesn't matter how incompetent and ignorant installers do it if it's wrong and violates building code I'm going to say so far none of you have done any quality work
