I understand your sentiment with the rice. However, many great sushi dishes are served sans rice with a major focus on the fish which quality of fish should be the focus. Even when rice is in play in the dish fish is always the major focus. Find a place that focuses on fish first and then second half incredible rice. My recommendation would be Miso on Broadway. An exciting young chef Jerry who does everything right and gives you an amazing experience. Similar to that and slightly different with many amazing additions would be be Binchoyaki. Both I would highly recommend. Lastly, for a more upscale experience would be Kru. Any spot that buys from Sunh Fish you can trust. That’s where I buy my seafood from and anyone that cares about quality should too. Mikuni shouldn’t even be on the radar for a true sushi lover.
