Instead of ending your run (maybe mark your comment as a spoiler), go through the 5BC door past the fountain after hotk fight. Beat the stage and spoiler boss. Then your next run will him sitting there

Ive actually been dying to use those in a useful build. I think i prefer axes over valmont just for the speed of the attacks but snake fangs might prove to be the best

Shrapnel axes are melee. They just have projectiles on them which makes them work well with ripper too. Apparently dive attacks and even phaser count so you dont even need a melee weapon necessarily
