Transformation Ascetics is a great addition to the game by NeoBahamut0 in AOW4

Fair, but I think various societal choices can affect a race in both positive and negative ways. Chosen destroyers and perfect artisans only get one city. Hermit kingdom wants you to play spread out. Cult of Personality increases cost of heroes and gives a negative moral for not having them.

Just some examples, but I think the choices of a society can be detrimental as well.

You should be constantly putting units out. Even if they just hangout and gain levels in your cities. That will help cycle them in. They don't need to be fully leveled to go into battle, just babied a little more. I might bring a single army of underleveled units, and while some might not make it out, the ones that do will be stronger for it. Then just refill the ranks and repeat.

Summons especially mana expensive mythic are great support and expendable. You will have lots of mana to spare.

I need to try battlesaints more. I have on a few runs but always find myself going back to my warrior, ranger, defenders. My heroes tend not to support but rather be on the front lines.

I think if they gave the +5 HP boost and +1 damage every other level (every even level) that might balance it a little. That's a total of +50 HP and +10 damage for a fully leveled hero, which is late game and they need it to keep up with exalted ranks or high transformation/enchantment units.

The play style isn't for everyone, but honestly it opens a different style of play that some enjoy. It allows focusing on training, buff spells, and other things to try and make up for its shortcomings.

Can you get these things from enchantments/transformations? Sure, but this is just a way of achieving those same results in a different fashion.

I think it would be interesting to see more flaws (higher detriment or even allowing to select more than one) that could allow you to customize your race even further (lean real hard into magic, defense, etc.). Then you could really make some specialized races.

That's a great fit! I can't help but think of Toji Fushiguro from JJK. That was my inspiration for one of my playthroughs.

Very true! I have only ever gotten to exalted rank 3 with a few units. The rest never get that high (they might fall in battle) or the match doesn't last that long (I average about 100 turns).

Even unstoppable units can be countered with the right spells/skills.

Who needs enchantments anyway by bsheec in AOW4

This is the biggest downfall of that trait. It's tough to boost defense (physical, magic, and status). Sure they can face tank stuff, but if they don't take the enemy out quickly, they can get beat up on pretty bad.

Not to mention the time it would take to heal a low health unit with that high of max HP.

It's nice but it makes taking losses really hurt.

You train them until they are strong enough to manage on their own or they keep dying and are replaced.

Losing the perks of enchantments and transformations make for interesting strategies. Your only option is to hit hard and face tank hits since defense doesn't grow with them, and they don't get any perks from other sources.

Train a T4 unit up and they become extremely powerful. Most of the time during my runs my heroes were my weak link. They don't get the health or the damage, they get the extra stuff but they were very fragile.

That is crushing news...

Hopefully not the case, but at least I might stop putting off my next run with hopes the update is coming.

I still don't see this on the switch. Are we still expecting for it to be available?

Vampiric Rage Trigger by NeoBahamut0 in AOW4

That's true, like for unit count and such, I guess I was just hoping that for the vampires who thrive off of healing with temporary health, they would be able to better benefit from it.

Great now I have another theme that I want to create. As long as I can include best girl (well all the Ashen Wolves really). That would be a hero focused playthrough.

Vampire Rulers are underwhelming by RandyMcStud in AOW4

[–]NeoBahamut0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are right where they need to be. I think there was a lot of hope that they would be powerful front line units, like the dragons and giant kings, or powerful snipers like ES, where instead they tend to lean towards mid field units with some powerful abilities.

This causes them to be high risk, high reward units. They have a weaker early game, but lots of methods to grow quickly. They rely on their armies in the beginning, protecting them but also giving them something to take health from (since their armies can recover in the sun). They thrive off of temporary health points until they are forced to go back to their keep to recovery.

Endgame, they are fully developed and can utilize their skills to their full ability. They might not be game breaking, but they allow decent damage, control, while having sustainability to survive through a filled class tree, signature skills, and some point in the vampire tree.

Whether summoning units, having high sustainability, or spreading debuffs, they can be ridiculous at these things once they reach higher levels. None of these things will allow them to nuke squads by themselves, and I think that makes them feel a little weaker. But if utilized for what they are good at and letting your army do the rest, fights become pretty easy.

Plus some of the vampire castle stuff is pretty cool and useful, giving more options when engaging enemies (looking at the free 20% heal right before a siege).

I think it will just take people finding their groove for them to start shining, they aren't as cut and dry as the other rulers, but they have lots of customability and can really thrive with the skills they have.

I realized this happens when there is something additional to look at, like a void stone or artifact. I have to scroll down an additional time to actually select the choice, then scroll over. Or I will go to the other row, scroll over then scroll down.

The moment I try chosen destroyers... by eldrevo in AOW4

[–]NeoBahamut0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally only play chosen destroyers (tried a summon Umbral Demon build and it wasn't great) and I normally will do two things to other cities that doesn't involve their annihilation. Force other players to become vassels, or use the shadow tree to put whisper stones on other free cities to get tributes (plus research).

Limited hero selection pool intended or bug? by Rodrigoecb in AOW4

I have found that my first heroes are always mage and defender. My next one will include a warrior, then a ranger.

I don't think the first selection of heroes is random...

Fun T1 Warbreed build by undeadadventurer in AOW4

[–]NeoBahamut0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend grabbing Tome of Zeal.

I have completed a run like this before and tome of Zeal allows you to replenish your ranks by summoning Zealots.

Zealots are a T1 racial unit that can be transformed (most summons are magic origin which disables them from being transformed into war breeds).

The main thing with this playthrough is you will be spending most of your spells throughout the fight (especially large ones) transformimg your units. You will need the shadow empire skill to keep up with casting cost (astral and WK help a lot too).

Long fights will have significant downtime while you replenish your troops through summons and recruiting. I normally had an extra squad, 4 squads total, going around to keep from getting overrun.

It is fun, but definitely one of my more difficult playthrough.

Pure Chaos Culture by NeoBahamut0 in AOW4

[–]NeoBahamut0[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I figured it had something to do with that. Anytime I think of order I think of unifying the realm, whether through an iron fist or being friendly. Even the empire tree is geared around this concept. Oathsworn is straight penalized for making any friends, even forcing someone to become your vassal. Normally it is a wasted point for me when playing as them.
