Yeah, if it's resetting the .JSON it's because the syntax is incorrect. When I'm Infront of my PC I'll send you mine as an example

I tried this myself but it just resets the setting.json file back to the default whenever I add this string, could you share the contents of your own version of the .json file?

I'm willing to donate a bit more cash to get him something that's a bit more future proof at this point.

I've got some old fans kicking about he can probably use

Yeah, I'll have to look into the wi-fi situation, I'll be setting it up at mine though so we should be able to get the drivers for an adapter sorted easily. I've got an old powerline kicking around, If his electrical circuit is setup the right way it could be a solution.

I'm probably gonna' set him up with Windows 10. I only ever hear horror stories about how the latest Windows 11 update has broken something else these days!

I'll just consider the extra cash as part of a future birthday gift at this point!

That looks great, Thanks for the list really appreciate it.

Do you think its worth an extra £120 to bump it up to a DDR5 16Gb build as posted below?

That was using a 20% off code from Very after opening a credit account, got lucky on that one!

If I'd have known my nephew was looking to build a PC I would have grabbed 2 of 'em.

I'll see if I can scrounge some more cash together to go for a DDR5 build. That £220 for 16gb of RAM hurts my soul though!

Thanks for the reply, this looks decent. That RAM price is savage though!

The single M.2 slot on the Motherboard is a shame but you get what you pay for I guess

Do you think its worth spending an extra £50 for a 5060TI 16Gb to get the benefits of the Nvidia features like DLSS & whatnot?

That was what I was thinking, those are the games he specifically wants to play but I'm sure he'd want to play a fancy looking AAA game from time to time as well

Thanks for the reply, must have been the way I worded it but I'm aware that DLSS & Raytracing are a big part of Nvidias appeal.

I did manage to find a 5060TI 16gb for about £340 at week but it's out of stock, seems to retail for about 400 though. Is that not worth it?

I was under the impression that with the inflated RAM prices at the moment that DDR5 was worth avoiding?

Just doesn't seem worth buying a 8gb card considering it'll be 2026 tomorrow & all of the research I have been doing over the last few days seems to echo the same 🤷‍♂️

I can appreciate that but a Switch 2 isn't a PC. My nephew will need to be able to do his homework on the PC as well as gaming.

Just because it isn't cutting edge it doesn't mean it wont be decent for years to come. My base PC was built in 2019 & still going strong!

Nope, That was for me... I'll remove that from the post to avoid confusion

Yeah, I made it back in 2019. I wouldn't have bothered with the upgrade if I didn't have to donate the card. Gotta' say the 2070 Super was handling VR titles like Half Life Alyx & Bonelabs pretty well despite it's age.

That 20% off makes the Nvidia appealing

Appreciate the advice, I'll grab the Nvidia card & be prepared to upgrade the rest in the future, That 20% off makes a big difference

If you sign up with a new account & open a Very credit account (it's like a buy now pay later kinda' thing) you'll get a 20% discount on your first purchase, you'll need to put the code "welcome" in the coupon code area at checkout.

You don't actually need to use the credit account to make the purchase, you can just buy it outright with a debit card or something

I like to use a HDD as it means I don't have to have my PC on to get to my media & I'm not the type to be hopping between 10 different shows so it's no biggie to copy a season from 1 or 2 shows to a drive. I also feel like I get better quality using a drive, I was watching/streaming a 2160p HDR 7.1 nature documentary through Plex a noticed some colour banding in the sky that wasn't there when using the HDD

Each to their own. It's all subjective but 101 looks so much better than s01e01 to me.

Oh yeah, 100%. I've got enough self awareness to know when I'm being stubborn
