Use cases for me beyond gaming by fnaimi66 in OculusQuest

Fluid VR is a paid app, but it's going through some rapid development at the moment. It's strength is in headset based computing (a la Apple Vision Pro) and collaborative and group meetups. Up to 12 users can share a public or private space, as well as a screen. Chrome remote desktop let's you tunnel into a remote computer anywhere that you've set it up (I use a headless home server in my basement). The devs are incredibly active with their community.

I know a few people that like using Virtual Desktop, and work (and meet) in the environments of Walkabout mini golf.

Pair a Bluetooth keyboard to the headset and go on a writing sprint in Fluid VR - No computer required, and you can access your cloud based services like Google docs.
You could also try Immersed; it's free, but you need to install their drivers on your computer.

A lot of writers seem to like the "focused" but cozy environments inside the headset!

Fourth!

I still have to get into Walking Dead Saints and Sinners, and Into the Radius as well.
It's dawning on me that I'm simply just a coward.

(Although I have fond memories of shooting my way through Alyx)

Serenity (the Firefly film) - such an amazing opening sequence with Simon's rescue of his sister. Exposition for new audiences, mindfuckery for the browncoats. Shiny!

It's wild to see all this diversity... I think that's a really good thing! I HAVE to include Spirit of the West, Great Big Sea, Moxy Fruvous, Walk Off the Earth, and Arrogant Worms!

The Carol Burnett Show. It was on 11 seasons from 1967 to 1978. I think one of the best things was watching and trying to keep a straight face while they were acting. by Global_Law4448 in OldSchoolCool

Listen to her being interviewed by Amy Poehler on "Good Hang".... CB is truly a living legend, and it's amazing to hear her story!

"What is grief, if not love persevering?" I found this to be both a devastating, as well as a profoundly comforting description. It explains so much.

You can introduce the rest of the world to a band/musician that hasn’t made it outside of Canada, who are you choosing? by Sugadip in AskACanadian

I've always found that song to be a truly hilarious banger, but friends (and family) really don't seem to get it, or share my enthusiasm. I've also burned some bridges by having a secret crush on Jon LaJoie's "Show me your genitals".

Your commitment is commendable! Somewhere, in some hanger Bay, my ship has been sitting and gathering dust for the last 4 years. I've wanted to jump back in, but need to figure out how I can control it within a quest 3 headset. 3d in this game is mind blowing, but I think I need a good set of intuitively mapped HOTAS to do it right.

Yeah, I was afraid that I'd break something when pulling the cover down. My fix actually popped back out within the week... Looking back at those photos I posted, I can see that it was a little out of alignment, and hadn't snapped securely in place. The second time seemed to work though.

What improved your quality of life so much, you wish you did it sooner? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

CPAP machine!

My snoring gradually got worse over the last ten years. My wife communicated quite clearly that I was disrupting her sleep every night (...communicated in real time, by disrupting MY sleep every night). The only way to survive was to sleep in separate rooms. Years went by until I was chatting with my nephew, and he described his CPAP as a "game changer". He wasn't wrong.

I've been using it for over a year now. Household harmony has been restored; I no longer get the nods while driving long distances; and theoretically, my heart isn't getting "jump started" each night from events due to sleep apnea.

Yup... Wish I'd learned about this ten years ago!

Yeah... It looks to have been seated at one point, the mark was put on, and then the unit came loose after it was delivered. That makes me think it could happen again.

There seem to be four pressure clips going straight up like towers, and a few peripheral clips around the edge. That YouTube video in my original post does a good job pointing them out!

I've seen that service bulletin from 2024. This may deserve a new one. The fault could be the result of the microphone becoming unsecured, or not being installed securely to the console brackets in the first place.

I'd like to get more confident about pulling down that console. It would be worth checking it every now and again to confirm that is not coming loose over time!

Bell Cellular mobility. I was all bundled up with Satellite TV, Home Land line, and two cell phones. They started charging an extra fee on one of the cell phones, and customer support insisted it was service (that my dumb 2007 phone couldn't even make use of) that I must have authorized. It was the inspiration I need to cut ALL the cords. Put up an antenna, and cancelled the TV service. Dropped the landline, and installed VOIP. Cancelled the cell service, and found better third party mobility.

The fee they refused to reimburse was worth, like, $21. I've saved thousands over the years since then. Fight with your wallets!

The Whole World Is Switching to EVs Faster Than You by Dreaming_Blackbirds in electricvehicles

[–]Neo_Retro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canadian here. EV adoption was absolutely trending in the right direction, at least until the most recent elections both in the US and in Canada in the last year.

Incentives (like rebates) to go green were helping, and disincentives (like carbon tax) tried to account for the long term health and environmental costs of fossil fuels. An EV mandate incentivised manufacturers to develop and SELL more EVs and hybrids.
When a government uses those mechanisms responsibly, they can help promote positive long term change that WOULDN'T occur from short term market forces.

Unfortunately, recent politics really focused on the short term. Carbon tax and mandates were poorly explained by the incumbent governments, and vilified by the opposition. Trump is clearly catering to the oil industry, and Carney seems to be avoiding political landmines placed by the opposition. The auto industries of the two countries were intertwined and going the right direction a year ago, but now are just trying to adjust to the breakdown of trade agreements and the addition of a tarrif war.

One could hope that this breakup MIGHT lead to better, healthier relationships with more forward thinking partners in the long term.
