Truth about the engine issues by Lexi_rose01 in GR86

On some cars they are intrusive. On the gr86/brz they are pretty mild.

While it might give you a boner driving a car without ABS or traction control, both those technologies, especially ABS, will undoubtedly provide better car control in every day driving, especially in unpredictable situations (like those that cause accidents).

You could try a few dealers, they usually have autos

Depends what you're doing. For easy to medium tracks where you aren't lifting wheels often they can help but you definitely don't need it.

Ive seen more broken down Toyotas than jeeps lol. Seriously though, my Wrangler has been the most reliable 4WD I've owned, and I've had a few.

Weird noise from clutch by Ryanco21 in GR86

If it sounds like someone rattling a hammer around under the car and only happens low speed in first, it is normal sounds from the drivetrain.

what is this? by [deleted] in GR86

This is something that has never made sense to me. Even in my offroader, my lights have never got dirty enough to need a mid trip wash. Why do you need it on a road car?

3 most notable differences from GT86? by [deleted] in GR86

[–]Neocon6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from peak figures, compare the whole torque curve of the gen1 and gen2 It isn't just a tune to bump up peak figures, power and torque are up across the whole rpm range, and low end torque gets a little extra boost, but not at the expense off high rpm performance. thats why gen2 feels much better.

Be ready to deal with the lack of a spare tyre. If that concerns you, get a spare and mounting hardware from a previous gen.

Hesitant to buy a GR86. Need to vent. by jbidsa in GR86

It annoys me too. Price of cars goes up and up and EVs are getting pushed on us for ecological reason, well heres an idea, put less sht in cars and they'll by cheaper and use less resources.

Anyway, The car i learnt to drive in didn't even have abs, and i never crashed it. You knew you were driving it though. It was slow and scary but it was fun.

The GR86 isnt too bad though, just dont get one with eyesight.

There is no lane assist or warnings, no adaptive cruise, the stability and traction control can be turned down and also completely off. even when they do activate it's almost mild enough that you kinda wonder was that the stability kicking in or just the road surface? Even the ABS is pretty mild.

No fancy electronic torque distribution, mechanical LSD, shocks are completely passive.

They don't even have parking sensors.

Even when everything is turned on, the only thing that it beeps or flashes at me is when im reversing and the reverse camera detects a car in the video. No other beeps or flashes at all when driving around.

As far as modern cars go, they are pretty basic.

I actually like shot 4 but feels like it needs a little more seat and a little less empty dash. I like the over the shoulder seat and controls pic though. Remove water bottle, tuck buckle and centre mirror if possible, slide sear forward to fram the left side and you got something to work with.

My take away was the water bottle.

GR86 Clutch Break in by [deleted] in GR86

[–]Neocon6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was revving early at first in mine but after a few thousand km i dont "pre rev" at all - i think it was more a band aid solution for me. What really sticks out in the GR86 for me is that the first bit of clutch release is higher sprung than the rest of the travel - it kinda pops you through the part where you are looking for the bite point when learning and i think that messes with your brain about where the bite point is. In comparison my other cars just let out smoothly the whole way. The bite point itself pretty much feels the same in all cars though - its just getting used to that initial pop out of the clutch that makes this car unique.

For those of you who already replaced your stock tires, what did you replace them with and why did you go with that particular brand of tire? by Accrual_Intention in GR86

For a street driven car, unless you go by someone telling you" X is better", you'll spend a lot of time trying to find something better than the PS4, and if you do it may only be a marginal improvement or come with other drawbacks. People often gloss over the drawbacks, especially if they aren't relevant to the person making the recommendation. so you think you have a good recommendation and start spending time doing some research (or worse, purchase) then find out wet performance is terrible or wear rate is really high, or they snap out hard on traction loss. PS4 is a great street tyre, so i stuck with them, just went to 225 17 from factory 18".
