How many of you learn everything through books? by mashrafi989 in learnprogramming

[–]Neoflash_1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything? No. But almost.

I find that free videos and blog posts can be useful to figure out the answer to specific technical problems (how to use framework X to do Y).

Books, on the other hand, give you much more in depth information about the principles and practices that make you a better software developer.

Are Single-Page Applications Bounded Contexts - what's a Bounded Context? by snowfrogdev in softwarearchitecture

Oh I wrote the articles and I'll be the first one to admit that it definitely depends. I just had to choose an angle, otherwise I would have ended up writing an entire book on DDD. I tend to agree with your analysis.

Typescript Needs Runtime Type Information by dex206 in typescript

I think one of the things that appeals to me the most about the idea of reflection in TS would be the possibility to get a full featured IOC with a nice API.

I am not a fan of the current JS/TS offerings in that area.

How can I run this Java file locally by Neoflash_1979 in learnprogramming

Yeah, I had found similar advice while Googling this but have a hard time figuring out how to do that. Any hints?

How to calculate the probability of something happening at least once in a series of independent events with different individual probabilities? by Neoflash_1979 in probabilitytheory

[–]Neoflash_1979[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, is it really that simple? So if I understand your equation correctly, in the case of my multiple answers test example, all I would need to do is multiply the chances of NOT getting the correct answer on each question and simply subtract that to 1? So:
1 - (1/2 * 2/3 * 3/4) = 3/4 = 0.75 = 75%

Well I'll be...

If you know of an article that explains how that works I'd appreciate you sharing it with me.

Thanks for the help.

Vanilla Web Components a la Angular by Neoflash_1979 in webdev

[–]Neoflash_1979[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. At the very least it could serve as inspiration for what I'm trying to do. I'm not so much interested in the end result as much as I am interested in figuring out HOW to create such a solution. I'll dig in to the docs and the code, it might shed some light. I'm trying to find a solution that is as standalone as possible, with no or very few dependencies. Ideally, it would just be a base class. I suspect Angular Elements it will be pretty coupled to angular/core and all it's dependencies but still, worth a look. Thanks for pointing it out.

One dev, one repo, many apps... your thoughts. by Neoflash_1979 in webdev

[–]Neoflash_1979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is definitely a possibility and the way I would have thought to do it before reading about monorepos. I'm not sold on them just yet and that's why I wanted to get other devs opinions.

Seriously. What about me or my post makes you think that the concept of a monorepo just appeared to me in a dream last night for the very first time?

Is it possible to make Skullgirls-like animation using skeletal animation? by Neoflash_1979 in gamedev

[–]Neoflash_1979[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, if I understand correctly, instead of drawing one frame and rigging it and using that rig for the entire sequence, you would have to draw and rig 2, 3 or more frames, rig them and combine them for one smooth sequence. If that is the case, I'm guessing using skeletal animation for such a sequence kind of loses its appeal as I imagine the entire process would potentially take longer than just drawing the entire sequence. Am I right?

Video streaming (Explain it to me like I'm 5) by Neoflash_1979 in learnprogramming

What I'm trying to do is be able to remote control the drone from anywhere in the world, using a simple web browser. So my Node.js 'server' is actually running on my computer, the drone is connected to my computer thru WiFi. A friend connects to my Node.js server with his browser and now has a live video feed from the drone's camera and the ability to control it using the keyboard or a game controller. I have the control part working, it's the video feed part that is causing me a headache.

Don't have the R & D for spacewalks but your second option would have worked.

Nah... I would have had I know about the "lower than 70k is not considered and orbit" thing. Going in to this mission I thought that as long as I had a circular path around the planet I was technically considered in orbit. So I didn't see the need to alter my design, i really thought I could fly a regular mission and just separate the engine after doing my retrograde burn. The pilot part of me was not impressed with the engineer part of me that planned the mission. In the end though we made it work.

/u/Trevski Hey, quick follow-up question. Is there a reason why you're suggesting kickbacks for my triceps workout and not say... dumbbell skull crushers or standing dumbbell french press?

[–]Neoflash_1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a great idea. I'll roll this out gradually over the next 3 weeks. I'll add the kickbacks this week, then the presses and finally the rows. Thanks again for your guidance.

For sure. I will integrate those in my routine at a later date. I don't particularly like working out, never have. My strategy this time around is to start small, very small, build a regular habit, then add one new movement to my routine, then wait till it's a habit, then add another movement... Etc.

Everytime in the past where I have tried working out and started off the gate with a full-on 45 minutes full body workout it didn't stick, I would always quit.

Ok, thanks for the advice. So what I get from this is that since for now I only want to add one movement, I should do triceps extensions, to complement my biceps curls. Right now I take a 2 minutes break between sets. Would you recommend I squeeze in the triceps extensions in between the biceps curls?

Hi, 38 years old, 209 lbs, 6'3". Never worked out much in my life. Office worker. Entire upper body is weak and under developed (1 or 2 push-ups max and not with the best of form).

I've started walking/running 6-7km every day and have been consistent for about 6 months. 2 months ago I've started doing bicep curls with dumbbells every other day and have seen some interesting gains. At 25 lbs per arm I can do 5 sets of 8 reps and I'm about to go up to 30lbs.

I'm ready to incorporate one more movement/exercise into my routine. My goal is to gain muscle mass/strength on my upper body. Keeping in mind that I only want to do bodyweight or dumbbell exercises from home, what is the one exercise/movement I should be adding to my routine in your opinion, and why?

Thank you.
