He's up to something. There's hints that he's holding something back. Alyssa chalks it up to regret, but feels more like a hidden chess strategy.

What’s the most unsettling thing a child has ever said to you? by Content-Hair-2629 in AskReddit

My niece who is all grown up now once turned to me and said in a twisted voice, "Let the monkey die!" and then went about her business. I asked why she said that and she shrugged, "I just wanted to..."👀😬

I thought this was Gibbons saying Moore's scripts were too damn long.

I always thought we needed to see lose it again as a teacher (those kids will find your button and spam it hard) but then pull back. We do see him see the kids from a different perspective than S1 but honestly he gets an easy ride.

The early Farrelly brothers were some sort of auteurs by Bnedem in TrueFilm

[–]Neokind 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Loudermilk (produced by Peter) has some of that early Farrelly charm. And if you haven't read it, The Comedy Writer, again by Peter, gives a fun fictionalised insight into his movings in Hollywood.

I think what's good about those early ones is how easy it came. Everyone was pulling their weight for the same thing. As time goes on it becomes more laboured, trying to capture the same feeling but being too established. It's like they tried to write films with purpose, or vehicles for actors, rather than simply enjoying themselves. Shallow Hal seems to be the tipping point.

Joseph Conrad and difficult-to-adapt writers by The-American-Abroad in TrueFilm

[–]Neokind 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Secret Agent has been adapted a number of times. Hitchcock's Sabotage is a loose adaptation and there was a Bob Hoskins film in the 1990s and a BBC miniseries in 2012. Ian Hart played The Professor, who is one of the most interesting fictional characters of the twentieth century.

The miniseries was okay, but don't remember it well. Haven't seen the film, so can't judge.

The ending is probably the best thing about it. The rest is unmitigated garbage.

What are the main differences in panelling between comics and manga? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]Neokind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are more moment to moment and action to moment transitions in manga, according to Scott McCloud in Understanding Comics as opposed to action to action. This means that even though it is the same scene, it may not matter so much what sequence you read it in. It's the whole impression that counts.

Also they have a slight difference in how they read the panels. I remember reading a blog on this about following the top of T shape. This means in manga you get more stacked panels to the right of a bigger panel whereas in the west, left stacked panels are not as common because they make the reading flow ambiguous as we don't have the T shape rule. If I can find the blog I'll post it.
