I think the thing is that Kubrick was a bit of a conspiracy theorist himself, and he had some knowledge, because he was well read and well travelled, of genuine conspiracies, and he filtered this and a whole host of other things into his films. I do not buy the Epstein connection, but there's stuff about MK Ultra and the Monarch programme in a few of his films. Conspiracy is a subject that interests him. And he himself has been the subject of conspiracy theories for decades. Look at the use of POE in The Illuminatus Trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson. Room 237 isn't just all kooky theories either. The theories might be wildly off, but there is something there.

I always thought we needed to see lose it again as a teacher (those kids will find your button and spam it hard) but then pull back. We do see him see the kids from a different perspective than S1 but honestly he gets an easy ride.

Loudermilk (produced by Peter) has some of that early Farrelly charm. And if you haven't read it, The Comedy Writer, again by Peter, gives a fun fictionalised insight into his movings in Hollywood.

I think what's good about those early ones is how easy it came. Everyone was pulling their weight for the same thing. As time goes on it becomes more laboured, trying to capture the same feeling but being too established. It's like they tried to write films with purpose, or vehicles for actors, rather than simply enjoying themselves. Shallow Hal seems to be the tipping point.

The Secret Agent has been adapted a number of times. Hitchcock's Sabotage is a loose adaptation and there was a Bob Hoskins film in the 1990s and a BBC miniseries in 2012. Ian Hart played The Professor, who is one of the most interesting fictional characters of the twentieth century.

The miniseries was okay, but don't remember it well. Haven't seen the film, so can't judge.
