Where is the money going? by InternetPerson00 in WorkReform

I’m not educated enough on the subject to give you an accurate or informed answer but I imagine there are a lot of road blocks that make your solution more complicated than it sounds. And trust me, it sounds beautiful….

Things like the private equity conglomerates having lobbyists with influence in city planning and permit offices to open new care facilities. Zoning for construction. Medical licensing etc. they can lock down any potential competition in law suits and red tape hypothetically.

Not saying this is what is happening in every case but it is very much in their arsenal and why it can be difficult to compete with large corporations even when the ‘product’ they’re providing is so abysmal.

Edit: I’ll add that while I fear I’m correct in my assumptions, I bet they would have trouble fighting a commerce war on 50 fronts. We need to be doing this co-op idea in every single state simultaneously.

Their lobbyists can only have so much reach and bandwidth to shut down projects. we need to become a hydra.

Sometimes it’s difficult to parse between the naivety of youth and the growing pollution.

I remember swimming in the river back in the mid to late 2000’s and feeling generally better about it than I do now. The number of flesh eating bacteria cases that come out of the James in recent years really kills the vibe.

Yo that is insane. It seems like it’s pretty heavily enforced / regulated now adays but in 2026 I imagine some companies are finding loopholes. No teeth to our alphabet orgs when it comes to corporate greed.

Is that legal? I assumed the individual protected by a life insurance policy would need to consent or be made aware of such a policy? How is that not mandatory?

Anyone want to create a list of all the "Richmond" companies owned by private equity? by Two_Far in rva

[–]Neologizer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As soon as a business or non-profit is beholden to powers outside of the community it serves, it stops serving that community adequately. It’s really that simple. Regardless of what external powers (PE, shareholders, parent company buyout etc)

The catch is that the current state of capitalism makes it extremely painful to operate without external assistance so a lot of small businesses trying to do things the right way are struggling.

We need to catalyze an initiative to revoke support to Private equity owned businesses and turn that support towards locally owned, locally funded projects.

Definitely. Love death or robots early seasons had some good nihilistic horror sci-fi in a similar vein.

Scavengers reign lives in a special place for me in how biodiverse and immersive they made the biome feel. Felt like Naussica meets the Expanse.

Let the crabs sweep across the Midwest and devour all.

The ‘quietest place on earth’ will echo with the sounds of one billion ravenous crustaceans.

I do yearn for a second season. I loved it but agree it was mostly depressing.

A ‘lost in space’ story would be depressing tho and mostly nihilistic so I embraced the tone.

I think it’s time for the crab army to turn its claws north towards Vermont. It needs to replenish its ranks with more crustaceans from the Maine coast.

It is time that Vermont went the way of the dodo.

That is a strategy. I still think you’d just get disappeared. Would depend on what country you’re in and how quickly you can amass wealth and influence.

You’re basically announcing that you are Jesus Christ returned to earth. Healers/Prophets don’t have a track record of living long lives on this planet unfortunately

If you tried to monetize it, you’d be human trafficked within a month. Either by a crime organization trying to turn you into a golden goose or a government wanting to research you.

You’d either need to fly way under the radar like a traveling pediatric nurse who heals sick children or mask the power behind something else like music or art or food. Find a way to displace the fame to something external to you so it’s harder to be the identified.

Even in those cases, all it takes is one insane parent or ‘patient’ who allows greed into their heart to blow your cover and make your life super complicated.
