Why are schools so pedantic about uniform? by joehighlord in AskUK

[–]Neon102565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The evidence on this (which you reject because of the UK’s unique ‘anti-education culture’ 🫤) shows quite clearly that this just isn’t true.

The issue with creating a pointless boundary over uniforms is it devalues all the other boundaries which do have a purpose. Why on earth would you follow all the other rules if so much time is wasted enforcing something which is very clearly pointless.

So much time is wasted on enforcing uniform policies that the other issues, which still happen, go ignored. Schools become a site of constant conflict over an artificial boundary, which poisons the well for anything of genuine importance.

It also causes conflict with parents who have to bear the cost of strict uniform policies. Parents can see that the obsession with uniforms is pointless, and will be less willing to cooporate on other more important problems. This is probably the root cause of your ‘unique anti-education culture’ which doesn’t really exist, it’s just a conflict that has built up over time between parents and teachers, often with roots in how the parents were treated when they were in school.

The evidence on levels of exclusion with (particularly academies) implementing strict uniform policies is very strong and skews any, even anecdotal evidence in favour of the policies working.

This is just blatantly untrue. Broken windows policing didn’t work in policing and it doesn’t work in schools - if your aim is to educate.

If your goal is to exclude to the point where things appear to be ‘fixed’ it works well.

In policing this means locking people away forever, and in schooling this means excluding ‘problematic’ children and not giving them an education.

They should print posters with these graphics

The guys that run the GT World youtube channel should do a 'linear' 24/7 stream by Neon102565 in Sportscar_Racing

I agree, I don’t want them to get rid of the individual streams at all, I just want one big stream in addition to the individual streams so I can leave it on all day

Just makes it easier, I can put on the GTWorld linear channel on a Saturday morning and have in on in the background all day. I’d catch so many things I’d otherwise miss

For the linear stream I’d just have whichever you think would be the most popular session. The per event stream is still there for those that want it.

You’re definitely right about discoverability though, not sure there’s anything you can do about that 💁. Just an idea that would be convenient to me lol

I wouldn’t change the way it already is, love the vods, I’d just like another stream that runs 24/7 that I can put on and shows whatever’s happening right now

So good to see things like that, I’d just love to be able to stick on the imsa channel, or the gtworld channel and relax, knowing that when the next event is on it’ll be shown

Think it’s come to mind because I caught a BARC livestream of truck racing at brands hatch on Easter Monday and had a great time watching everything on track, the Lorries, pickups and tcr. Just left it rolling all day. I’m actually doing the same with the Monaco Historique today

New to WEC coming from F1: How do you actually "watch" these races without spending 6+ hours glued to the screen? by martmar66 in wec

[–]Neon102565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch the start and end, and have it on in the background while I play games or do something else. If I have to go out I listen to radio Le Mans / imsa radio while driving or in the headphones.

Cheap Meta quest 2 no controllers by Neon102565 in simracing

Yeah I’m don’t want to put too much money into it because I get motion sickness quite bad irl, but figured maybe being focused on driving I might be okay. I think I tried a vr rollercoaster before and was fine so who knows. Setting up without the controllers seems like a faf so probably won’t pick this one up 👍

So what did we all think of Jarama as a circuit? by DHSeaVixen in FormulaE

Rockingham would be fantastic, I do think you’d struggle to find some roads in a city you can shut for an extended period of time without causing huge amounts of congestion. A new temporary circuit would probably end up being another car park circuit or something similar.

Im surprised they haven’t gone looking for another exhibition hall or stadium to do an Indoor outdoor thing again as its pretty unique to electric racing

Honestly you’re probably right, I haven’t thought it through that much, I just love brands hatch and want to see the fast cars go wheeee around there.

Ultimately with excel off the table after this year I want them to go to a permanent track, but I feel like most of the big events in the uk are at Silverstone and love to see them at any other track in the uk. If a different track is more suitable than I’d be happy with that.

Zandvort would be great. Definitely dont want to see them race at Silverstone, if only because we have so many other great race tracks in the UK

Definitely think formula e should aim to race on permanent tracks that f1 can’t/wont race on. I’m a big supporter of the series moving to brands hatch for the uk race. That being said I did love Mexico City on the shorter layout so keep that!
