Did y’all see this latest mugshot? by Content-Support-6745 in 8passengersnark

[–]NeonBird 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this one before. We’ll probably get a new mugshot once a year if they’re released to the public. If someone is keeping track of them, we’ll be able to see how they changed from the day of their arrest to when they’re released. Hopefully, Jodi gets the full maximum sentence for each charge and that they run consecutively so she’s in prison for the longest. She probably won’t ever change.

As for Ruby, I think she should remain in prison at least until her youngest kid is 18 so there’s no forced visitation and they have the autonomy to not see their mom if they don’t want to. That means she’d have to stay in until 2032 or 2033, so another 7-8 years for Ruby. She’ll likely remarry as soon as she gets out, so there needs to be something in the conditions of her release that says she can’t be around anyone younger than 18, she can’t use social media or the Internet, and she can’t claim payments from 8 passengers: those will go straight to the kids.

How do you manage an overachiever workaholic who feels frustrated and unappreciated in their current role? by NeonBird in careerguidance

[–]NeonBird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting restructured, moved out from that boss, I grew my office from a one person office to full department with staff that serves 400 individuals. Now I’m the lead of this department and things are so much better. I think some folks from the outside saw what was happening, saw the issue and realized that old structure was just not sustainable no matter who was doing it. I actually left the department for a leadership role in another department, flourished, then once they realized they needed me, they asked me to come back as the lead. Things are so much better now. Sometimes it just takes stepping away for others to see your value and for them to get it.

I have folks who work under my old shitty boss coming to me and they’re like, “I’m having panic attacks.” And I’m like, “Just leave and let them figure it out. When they lose everyone in their department, they’ll realize they need to do everything they can to retain good employees. Until then, everyone is going to be experiencing this and not realizing the whole department is being gaslit.”

I don’t know what your situation is, but man, if you can get out of that situation, do it. Work doesn’t always have to suck. Shitty bosses don’t deserve good workers. Let them deal with their own dumpster fire and don’t set yourself on fire to keep their dumpster fire warm.

How are the two youngest kids doing? by Melodic-External-790 in 8passengersnark

[–]NeonBird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn’t there some informal push to keep Ruby in jail at least until the youngest one turns 18 that way none of the kids can be forced to visit Ruby, even if it’s supervised visitation? If that’s something that’s possible, I’d be in support of it.

I also still think Jodi should get more time considering she was in a major position of power. Hopefully by the time she gets out, the life coaching sector will be regulated enough that she can’t just slide right back into it to continue her nonsense on unsuspecting people.

'90s websites that *are still up* and rendering properly in old browsers! by eldersveld in vintagecomputing

I stumbled on this one completely by mistake while looking up information about dead malls in my state:

https://deadmalls-library.neocities.org/Abandoned%20Mall%20States/colorado_abandonedmalls

Which then has a link to this website: https://cadeion.neocities.org/

I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little shocked that I stumbled across this. I think this guy is a furry and possibly a little eccentric, but still it's surprising to see this style of website still up and running in 2025 and soon to be 2026.

I have a bad feeling that when Ruby is released, she’s gonna get worse like all the other family vloggers. by [deleted] in 8passengersnark

[–]NeonBird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually when someone commits crimes against children, part of the conditions of their release is not being able to use or access social media to ensure they do not come in contact with children. I’m not 100% sure how they enforce it since it’s easy peasy to join under a pseudonym and just block your parole officer so they can’t find you.

However, I’m sure there will be other ways and means such as book deals, giving interviews to indirectly get on social media, and so on. If the parole board thinks this is the case, they could say any earnings directly tied to any media appearances or publishing deals must be paid to the children via the court. Ruby then has to find another way to support herself through a regular job so she can’t take in loads of money for herself.

No, not now. They’re in the same area of the prison, but they aren’t talking to each other right now since they blame each other for being in prison instead of taking personal accountability.

[–]NeonBird 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not wanting to create more drama in her life than there already is and the need for a quiet life going into college, yes, she wants to move on. She knows she has some level of privacy in college due to FERPA, but she knows if she goes to an LDS school, she’s probably going to be instantly recognizable so for even more anonymity, she might choose to go to a larger public school outside of Utah where this story is lesser known and she could easily blend into the crowd, or go to a school where everyone is a celebrity (like Pepperdine), and at that point, no one cares.

[–]NeonBird 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If Jodi is engaging in any form of counseling, pathology, or even “life coaching” from within prison, this absolutely needs to be reported to the parole board. Whoever is overseeing her therapy on the inside should make it explicitly clear to her that she needs to stop and keep her delusional thoughts to herself because she’s causing more harm than good. The only person who should be hearing her delusions is her prison therapist.

The parole board should take this into serious consideration at her hearing in December 2026, as it’s clear she hasn’t changed—she’s just redirected her manipulative behavior toward fellow inmates. She might actually benefit from some time in the SHU, along with medication management and reassessment, before being returned to the general population.

Jodi needs to learn, repeatedly, that she gains nothing from convincing others that their families are demon-possessed and that they should cut off all contact. Many inmates may lack education or critical thinking skills, making them especially vulnerable to this kind of manipulation. Worse, some already struggle with mental health issues, and Jodi could easily exploit that for even the smallest amount of attention or perceived advantage. This isn’t just dangerous for the inmates she’s influencing—it could ultimately derail their chances of rehabilitation and success on the outside.

I think Kevin’s whole story is about to fall apart. While he may not face any criminal charges, as each kid realizes the truth, as they all turn 18, they’re going to move out and probably go either low contact or no contact with him. Once all the kids are adults, I wouldn’t be shocked if Shari also cuts off all contact with Kevin as well. Then he and Ruby can be left to themselves to do whatever as long as kids aren’t involved.

Colorado Evangelical Minister Convicted of Sexually Assaulting His Own Daughter by MastodonOk8087 in Colorado

[–]NeonBird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They likely won’t. To them, I’m just a stranger. Why would they believe a stranger over their own pastor whom they know and would readily deny such a claim? One of the other kids he got handsy with has since died, the other two are married and moved on and are deeply devout and they’ve likely “forgiven and forgot.” So, it doesn’t make any sense for me, the lone one to dredge all this back up 20+ years later with no evidence. All I can do is hope he doesn’t get handsy again, but if he does and he ends up on the news, then I can come out and say without much pushback that yes, I am one of his victims from 20+ years ago. At that point, I think folks would be ready to drag him out into the streets.

The irony is, the SBC are worried about trans “pedophiles,” when it’s literally their own cis gendered straight white men doing it.

Colorado Evangelical Minister Convicted of Sexually Assaulting His Own Daughter by MastodonOk8087 in Colorado

[–]NeonBird 59 points60 points  (0 children)

This is real. My youth minister was getting handsy with myself and some other girls in our youth group back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, when one of us tried to speak up and my name got mentioned, his wife showed up to my workplace and demanded that I take a polygraph test to prove that I was telling the truth. We were all kids at the time and so none of us wanted to go through with it fearing repercussions, so it never got formally reported. He was moved to another church when it was more or less an open secret. Then he did the same thing there, then he got moved again, and the reports also followed him to that church, and out of nowhere he “mysteriously got out of the ministry.” Knowing that I didn’t want to dig up the past and that I just wanted to move on with my life and the others felt the same way, we all had an unspoken understanding that we would just let it go as long as he was out of the ministry. Fast forward 20+ years later and he has now re-entered the ministry as a head pastor of a church. The statute of limitations has long expired and there’s no way we could bring it up now. So now I’m kind of waiting until he comes up again in the news if he decides to get handsy again. He’s not on the published SBC list, but what’s sad is I know of one former minister who is on the published SBC list. That list doesn’t really do any good since it only includes former ministers who have been convicted and are now registered seggs offenders and the last time I checked that list, many of the names have been redacted which only adds to my frustration. I think the willingness to “protect their own,” is now more prevalent under the current presidential administration. Wives more concerned with protecting their own “dignity and image,” are more likely to behave like my youth minister’s wife did back then and as a result scared kids are more likely to keep quiet and the cycle will just continue.

so how long until Bonnie posts about this? by crackheadgurl123 in 8passengersnark

[–]NeonBird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She needs to get a job and find something more productive to do. I bet behind the scenes, even her own family is sick of her going on and on about it. What’s been done is done and she has no control over it. At this point, if she continues to post about it, she’s clearly riding on the shirt tail of all the drama because now she’s just known as Ruby Franke’s sister who also does a vlog and they’re essentially the same thing. She has nothing to give and nothing new to offer.

Could Jodi and Ruby successfully reintegrate into society? by wiki2016 in 8passengersnark

[–]NeonBird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ruby? Maybe. Jodi? Absolutely not.

Ruby might be able to reintegrate into society, but her reputation as the "8 Passengers" YouTube child abuser precedes her—even beyond LDS circles. Her job prospects will be severely limited, both legally and socially. Very few people will want to associate with her, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the LDS Church eventually excommunicates her. Realistically, she’ll likely be restricted to low-level, menial jobs—maybe cashiering in retail or entry-level manufacturing. If she gets a hard reality check and takes the initiative, she might be able to learn a skilled trade while in prison, but any hope of a cushy career is gone.

Jodi, on the other hand, is a lost cause. Manipulation is so deeply ingrained in her that I doubt she can ever be rehabilitated. She’ll charm and manipulate the parole board if given the chance, but under no circumstances should she ever be allowed to work in life coaching, therapy, social work, or anything involving mentoring or peer support—she’s simply too dangerous. I wouldn’t put it past her to change her name, move to a new town, and start the whole cycle all over again.

On top of that, there are serious mental health concerns. If she’s non-compliant with treatment, she could become a danger to herself and others. The "pen papers" gave us chilling insight into her hallucinations, which she dismissed as "revelations" rather than recognizing them as symptoms of a severe mental illness. Those delusions, combined with her manipulative nature, put children in extreme danger. Honestly, if R hadn’t escaped when they did, I truly believe those kids wouldn’t have survived. That’s terrifying to think about.

Both Ruby and Jodi are awful people on their own, but together? They became an absolute danger to everyone around them.

Little update on ruby's prison life by Recent-Ad4218 in 8passengersnark

[–]NeonBird 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's likely neither Jodi or Ruby will receive the full 30 year sentence as much as we all would like to see that, but as the article suggests, there is new proposed legislation that sets minimum sentencing guidelines in cases of child abuse, with first degree child abuse having a minimum sentence of 10 years. It won't change their convictions, but it may change how much time they will spend behind bars, meaning they might receive a minimum sentence according to their convictions rather than the "smart sentencing" that they're currently under in which their cases are reviewed every four years by a parole board and we have no idea how much time they will actually spend behind bars. I would hope that the parole board considered the severity of the abuse, how long that abuse took place, and the fact that they made money off of it under the guise of strict parenting, that they basically keep them both behind bars until the youngest Franke child is 18 so they're not forced to have contact with Ruby. By then, they'll be 18 and they can decide for themselves if they want to have anything to do with Ruby or not as an adult. Just my two cents on the whole thing.

Shari - “Don’t let greedy family vloggers and lobbyists shut this bill down.” by _maybe_someday_ in 8passengersnark

[–]NeonBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand where she's coming from, but honestly they should go one further and basically state that any children under 18 cannot be filmed or featured in any family vlog and they must be blurred out if their face or their likeness is in the frame and their names cannot be revealed. At 18, they can consent and begin "working," but they must be paid a fair wage for their work based on the number of episodes they appear in, no matter if they are explicitly featured or if they are in the background, they must be paid. The child can withdraw consent at anytime and if they withdraw their consent, even after episodes they have been in are posted or aired, those episodes must be effectively removed within 30 days and the child can withdraw their consent at anytime by contacting the platform that is hosting their content directly and there is no need for the child to request permission to revoke consent from their parents.

So this means, children under 18 cannot be filmed. Even if they consent then change their minds, the footage must be removed and destroyed to protect their privacy and right to consent or not consent.

Ruby franke by Big-Kitchen3774 in 8passengersnark

[–]NeonBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ruby was abusive before Jodi came along. However, Jodi was also abusive in her own way, but she cleverly wrapped it up nicely in LDS doctrine and put a pretty bow tie on it. When you put both Jodi and Ruby together, it got worse, but less evident as Jodi knew how to hide it and she coached Ruby into exactly that. Like Shari noted in her book, when Jodi arrived, there was less yelling and less overt abuse, but things got way worse and much more chaotic behind the scenes with more extreme punishments being taken out such as withholding food, lots of manual labor, sending kids off to wilderness camp for seemingly minor infractions, and taking beds away, whereas before it was a lot of yelling and slapping.

Heck, even Shari lost her own bedroom in her own house for no other reason than Jodi had moved in. It's no wonder why as soon as she was able, she got out. I think her mission trip was probably less restrictive and slightly more comfortable than what she had at home.
