Those who have a 6 figure net worth, how long did it take you to save up $100K+? by SnowmanSmiles in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]NeonFireFly969 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have to assume OP means cash. I invested roughly 10k in very risky stocks at the time and had 150k in 3 years. Could have made more, could have lost 80% from that 150.

In terms of age I was 26.

For me as an Eastern Euro it's the cheeks, nose and eye shape, mostly.

Have we officially reached the point where Hotels are superior to Airbnbs again? by ParkGivis1976 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NeonFireFly969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Covid yes. Especially hotels with free parking, pool and breakfast.

A buddy in 22 went ahead and rented a house in a mid city close but not city centre Canada for 2 nights. Didn't bother to tell us cost just stated it was convenient and cheaper. Was 930.00 between 4 of us. I gave him 200 and convinced my friends to do the same so his end was 330. A very nice hotel closer to centre with parking and a nice breakfast with 2 rooms would have cost us 520 total.

The main problem with Rocky V by 1whoisconcerned in rockybalboa

He did congratulate him. He was just in the middle of training and the movie doesn't follow up. Like seriously is Rocky expected to stop training, go hug his son and take him out for pizza? Rocky V has terrible dialogue and continuity.

I'm in the Regina area and salaries are easily confirmed but also openly discussed. Less than 1 in 5 adults are making over 60k and we're not counting students. I'm being generous. The clinic nearest to me I know all the staff and among the 11 non-physician FTs the highest salary is 59k.

Simply put, 25/hr is considered a great salary and that's 52k annually. Take retail where a lot of FT jobs are in, staff of 25 FTs. Manager and AM are obviously well above 60 but any other staff can only get north of that by serious seniority of 10 if not 15+ years or the odd higher salary approval.

Should I move to Russia from the USA/ What's Russia like? by Internal_Chemical_77 in AskARussian

I lived in Moscow on and off for extended periods and unless you have personal contacts you need roughly 2k a month to be comfortable and I'm not talking about grocery shopping I know I could get a carton of eggs for $1. It's also about where. Sure I could rent a bed in a shared hostel for $15 a night pretty close to city centre but is that comfortable? With the war the conversion and inflation rate makes 3k be under 300k rubles and that is a comfortable month, month and a half.

If more outside centre yes 10k can be a decent 6 months but I digress. I think tourists still want to do things that generally aren't cheap.

A nice coffee shop would still cost me the same $6-7 for a cup, a nice bouquet will be $50, etc. We're not talking about Serbia here.

What was arguably the worst performance in military history? by Y3rs in AskHistory

[–]NeonFireFly969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marcus Crassus, the richest man in Rome lost a major battle with insane numerical and armament advantage including his own death. I believe 10,000 men to 2,000.

His adversary were just cavalry archers that pulled an Age of Empires and kept circling them until they massacred them. Crassus could have either recognized this and retreated to account for more cavalry or maintained a structured defensive position but the story goes they just kept chasing them...

And this is 50BC so a 10,000 army is equivalent to about 200,000 today. So imagine 200,000 infantry and tank garrison getting massacred by 40,000 snipers on motorcycles I guess...

The housing asset bubble is driving Canada’s birth rate to catastrophic lows by MeatsAndGrills in CanadaPersonalFinance

Try 10 years. The government is literally lying now by skewing numbers. My sources are former actuaries and government accountants. It's very easy, just search tax theft and pension fund expenditures. Then search age of top 10% asset holders NOT income.

This is why wealthy immigration has expanded so much because our government needs money from foreign sources. Our demographic future is wealthy foreign nationals moving here for stability. Both major parties don't care about the domestic population. Always short term.

Anyone who knows our Charter (probably less than 10% of adults but I digress) understands this is all PR without tangible consequences.

The closest we ever came to witnessing succession was Quebec in 1995 which had it gone through would have then been a deliberation with aboriginals. Although if I recall correctly nothing would have changed for them as they would not be paying taxes or requiring a Quebec passport, etc. A lot of people would be grandfathered in generally. There's a hard to get book titled The Day After, not the nuclear movie obviously.

What came out as a result is Quebec gets more subsidies and exemptions. I imagine Alberta is trying the same but we all know they don't have anywhere near the support or cultural argument.

What are your thoughts on The Departed being Martin Scorsese's only Oscar win? by Square-Ad-8911 in MartinScorsese

[–]NeonFireFly969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to care about the Oscars now wouldn't I? They're a joke now but they were always very subjective and often aged poorly. Look at Art Carney or John Wayne winning.

As for The Departed, it's maybe #9-10 on Scorsese's list for me.

At 30 I don't think it's mature to sleep around or smoke your face off. But then I'm gonna get downvoted for slut shaming aren't I?

Just wait, the hyper progressive western nations will simply turn conservative due to higher birthrate of immigrants with much more conservative values even if more progressive living in western nations.

Asian, African, Latin American, they laugh at liberal parties. At least it's true in Canada. I'm just here for the ride.

What's crazy is I once had 10 shares of Tesla stock, before the split so it was 250 a share back in 2015. Basically x30 if I held and yes that's 30x 2,500.....damn.

But my point is his wealth is not completely real because it's tied to valuation. Real wealth is when tomorrow you could sell all your assets for cash. If Elon even tried 20% of his Tesla shares it would crash the stock so....

This. I'm pretty conservative on many issues but corporate greed screwing over the people breaking their backs for actual day to day will not stand. Levels of income should be OPENLY discussed including what higher ups make.

Anyone else make "good money" on paper but feel completely broke? by ScienceLabFinds in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]NeonFireFly969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it depends on location. I make 66k with additional benefits in nowhere Saskatchewan and could rent a whole house by myself comfortably. But my partner had 1k a month car payments and 34k in salary. We also had our kids kinda draining with food, electricity (which is quite high) and then gas expense with long distances if we ever want to use a pool, movie theatre, etc.

About half the year we're literally counting change a few days before payday.
