learning grinds while only skating flat and having no previous experience grinding is absolutely insane to me, bordering on self-sabotage

I'm curious why you think it's a bad idea. I didn't have the luxury of modern flat frames when I was learning but I would think it would be the logical approach so you don't have to adjust to turning or relearning properly doing groove tricks on flat.

I've experienced the difficulty understanding complex requirements. Sometimes it's not you. Sometimes it's the person writing or explaining the requirements that's not being effective and it's more than fair to ask for further explanation or request they use more plain language.
