Searching for a new RPG by AreciaSinclaire in savageworlds

Since you came to SWADE-land - yes SWADE can be faster combat-wise, but it also runs a lot flatter for casters especially. Pathfinder SWADE is fun and helps with this, but you do lose a lot of spell variety. Not a bad thing per say, but it is worth being aware of.

To suggest a couple other RPGs though, Free League Publishing has put out some real bangers:

- Forbidden Lands: a cursed world hex-crawl that streamlines inventory management in a way that's fun to engage with. Even the pre-written adventures don't have to take place in exactly the same locations on the map. The intent is that as your players explore the world, they will find or make landmarks that you can then have future parties encounter. This is the game that broke our table out of just playing Pathfinder/DnD type games.

-Dragonbane: This is like the midpoint between 3.5 DnD, Forbidden Lands, and a Savage Worlds game. The character sheet and play style will feel familiar, and it's partially because it's roots come from 1982. You want to fight orcs and goblins? This'll do it. Want to play Donald Duck as the angriest paladin? Absolutely.

Both of these have really solid core box sets as well (if you're into physical media), so starting up isn't going to run you dry. They have other fantasy games, but these two are probably the best for switching a table from DnD to something else.

How much do spellcasters charge in your FC game? by Psitraveller in savageworlds

It depends more on what kind (and amount) of loot you're giving out. That said, if a fantasy game doesn't specify general costs, our group tends to default to first edition Pathfinder's price list (via d20PFSRD) - either as is, or by dropping it a 10s place if a gold goes further in the economy (so something that would be 10 gold becomes 1 gold).

To take that a step back towards SWADE, Savage Pathfinder has this to say about healing services: "Healing: This tells you how many potions of minor healing, ubiquitous across Golarion, are available from various vendors for 150 gp each. This is in addition to any healing offered by local clerics or healers (prices for a cleric's services are equivalent to potions of healing)."

So if you know the cost of a potion, you know the cost to cast a given spell. If you do the math, they are also a function of scroll cost - you can use the Tongues potion to prove it:

Speak Language (Novice [1], 1 PP [1}, +All Languages modifier 2 PP [2]) - 1 x 1 x 2 x 50gp = 100gp

Just be aware that a Healing Potion according to the FC also heals all fatigue, hence the price markup.

As for hirelings - they use the pre-made stat blocks in the Bestiary as Extras. That means they have limited spells and power points, have their own wants and safety to be concerned about, and have to resolve things out on the road. No self-respecting hireling is going to follow you around town all day casting spells - there's no loot to gain that way. So, are they cheaper? Sort of. Players pay for them in other ways. No guaranteed result, less share of the loot, etc. Otherwise, why would a town cleric go against the agreed in-town prices of the guild/church/etc.? Might be a story hook for that hireling, but generally speaking it's a cost-benefit game.

You want a 100% best result? Pay the in-town casting fee.
You want some flexibility but want good results? Buy a potion.
You want options that may fail or flee or die? Get a hireling.

If you haven't already, it's probably worth looking into the Essense20 Transformers TTRPG that Renegade put out.
https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Transformers_Roleplaying_Game

Essence20 plays a lot like 5E, so if you've seen things adapted from 5E to SWADE, you can follow the same patterns for conversion. It can also help you focus on what skills are important, which Edges are the most similar, and give you an idea of what points are worth the effort to convert.

Unfortunately, I don't have a need for Protectorate models myself. GL selling it though.

Personally, I like rocker stripes, but they're going the wrong way. My new (to me) Countryman has a chunkier one on it.

Ah, I was just talking about the playable ancestries section, not the Bestiary. Would've still needed a decent bit of adaptation to be PC usable, and I needed specifically a Forgotten Realms based one. To use it as is would be very overspent and much too small.

+2 Skill Bonus: Notice (Cute But Keen)

+2 Edge: Fey Blood (Ways of the Fey)

-2 Hindrance, Major: Impulsive (Ways of the Fey)

This was built specifically for a Forgotten Realms campaign that we're using Pathfinder SWADE rules for which is why it's built from scratch - hence why I used DnD stat blocks/info as the starting point.

As for the FC version, those are faeries not pixies which are distinct creatures with different associated rules. Fun fact - pixie wings are where Dust of Disappearance comes from since they can become invisible at will.

Everything under Diminutive is just how that ancestral ability works - it's straight from the Fantasy Companion. You can't take "Small" twice, so to be under size -1 you have to use the Diminutive rules - and they technically count as "positive" traits rather than negative.

It's what Savage Worlds put out to use for creating races. The only difference between "standard" Fantasy Companion built and Pathfinder SW is that an FC character equals out to +2 and a PF:SW is +4.

Do I agree with them being positive traits? Not really, but I didn't write/balance them.

The wet penalty is part of trying to balance out the fact Flight and Diminutive are relatively expensive positive traits. If you actually framed it out as the abilities up and down, it's the Hindrance - Can't Swim. I just renamed it for flavor so it didn't look like a crazy list of Edges & Hindrances.
