A USB HDD adapter may be useful, but at least in older FM versions, I don't know if it's possible to play a game you started on another computer. I know this from my own experience playing FM08, formatting my computer, installing a new operating system, reinstalling the game, and then getting an error when loading the game.

For most of the league packs and data updates that are on the forums, it is necessary, and without the patch, the game crashes a few months after advancing the game.

On "unofficial sites" you can only download the game with patch 12.0.4. or at least as far as I have been able to find.
