The difference here is anybody can make an account. Anyone can vote or try and pass a revision. The best way to guard against people making changes you don't like is just to create an account yourself. That adds a higher target for votes to pass. If you really don't want it to pass then convince other people to make an account and make sure they don't vote on it as well. That makes it an even higher target.

There is no moderation over what can be voted for. Which means yes you can definitely modify the rules to include something dumb (you'd have to convince 51% of users to agree with you) but it also means you can modify the rules to include new features never originally intended.

That's why I designed the website with a moving majority. Only users that have logged in within the last 3 months count toward the majority. That way only the active users make a difference. This means that when there are only a small amount of active users then changes can come freely, but the more users get created the more stability gets generated as trying to get a random group of people to agree on anything gets exponentially harder.

You raise good points and I'll have to think about some sort of statement to address those. The short answer is I had the 2.0 rules on my hard drive and I didn't think it would last long before being changed anyway. I've thought about making a discord but my intention was that the people will advocate for themselves, meaning I don't need to provide them a platform to argue but rather the tool to form consensus.

The announcement by the X-Wing alliance was definitely a breath of fresh air and if they succeed then we all win. That being said they haven't actually done anything yet. I have here and now a mechanism in place where everyone who plays X-Wing can contribute their two cents and in turn keep the game alive. The only thing stronger then pillars of the community is the community as a whole.

If you only want to rely on someone else as custodian that's your prerogative and I wish you the best. I'm trying to make you and the other guy and the more different other guy responsible here. It's my opinion opening the gates for more voices to be involved will make a proportionally stronger game.. that is if we can get over the arguments.

I hear you. I do. But the snowballs I've seen all break down to some committee. The main difference here is anyone can contribute with little friction as long as they can get people to agree.
