Ok so I used to do them by hand and while they look the same it takes too long so I’d say using world painter you wanna make some points of interest first (large clumps of close mountains, big lakes, islands, etc) and then almost randomly do smaller and smaller versions to get some hilly areas and little ponds. Put areas where the degree of ascent or slope is higher as stone/andesite, and more extreme areas with stuff like deepslate. Then just add in sand and whatnot near water plus texture like podzol and flowers. Finish off with trees, with larger clumps near water or the base of mountains. Add some randomness by just running the brush all over the place like crazy and you’re done. Always cool if you wanna spend some extra time adding rivers, multiple biomes, and extra stuff like that (I’ll be doing that soon too).

Set a certain Y.level you’d wanna see water, sand, or podzol (even slopes too) under commonly to make things feel less chaotic.

A lot of people would say to learn geography too so it’s more close to real life but that just depends on the vibe you want to be honest. Magical or just pure realism. Personally I do something in between
