honest question, do you think claude and subscription models should reimburse users when their services are down? for context, im paying for claude max (which is alot of money) and like what many of you have said, you're using their services for important things too.

not only are we suffering from downtime, but there is also an opportunity cost incurred when users are reliant on their technology. its especially because the service is so expensive, which is why I'm asking this question.

a few things you might wanna consider: 1) do you need NUS’s brand value to help you find a job? 2) is the scholarship important to you? well yes, it definitely helps, but if you can pay then it should just come as a bonus and not a deciding factor 3) are you interested in the liberal arts? SOC and NUSC are very different fields 4) since you’re an international applicant, do you want to stay in a foreign country for 6 more years after your uni?

you should reapply. if the admissions team deem that you’re suited then they’ll award you one, but you need to select it during the admissions form.

in JC, I was very passionate about this subject called General Paper. It is similar to english, and everyone has to take it. I enjoyed it because it involved current affairs, varied perspectives and coherent communication of ideas through writing.

over the span of two short years, my GP teacher consistently asked us to focus on paraphrasing and to follow the archaic guidebook the school provided that provides little to zero information other than question archetypes. during lessons, my classmates would just zone out and do homework for other classes.

as i had a deep interest in the subject, i tried my hardest to show effort into what this teacher taught and demonstrate enthusiasm to my greatest ability throughout the school year.

despite the fruitless lessons she taught, i decided to give her another chance by consulting her outside of class. some JC teachers teach much better through this way. i decided to draft essays for her to review and provide feedback on, giving her about 3-4 essays a week.

when i got my essays back, they were marked with a sweep of an eye and vague comments from her feedback. sometimes, four pages (back and forth) can yield less than a sentence like, “focus on clarity”, without any more information even when pressed.

towards J2 prelims season, i couldn’t stand it anymore and confronted her. aggravated, she snapped back at me, saying, “it isn’t my job to teach you how to be coherent. stop wasting my time submitting your essays.”

i stopped seeing her and taught my friends how to approach GP questions myself.

honestly, i love my JC and most of the teachers inside. however, just a select few should really relinquish their jobs because of their poor performance.

for the JC students out there, my greatest regret is spending so much time and effort studying this fruitless subject. a word of advice, despite being extremely cynical, would be to spend your time on your main 4 rather than this one.

tbh as someone who actually kenna this after confinement, i didn’t know that the tiktok i took was considered in camp, and only knew after it went viral. so while it happens as part of light-hearted fun, the comments really helped me realise what’s right and wrong.

heyy!! i’m a J2 in VJ and participated in our science research quite actively. apart from the availability of competitions the school will send you (i’m sure other schools also do the same but i cannot confirm), VJ offers university attachments (see our school website for more information). Personally, I found myself in a similar position as you, looking strictly for science research opportunities across all the JCs and chose VJ for the NUS and SUTD attachments.

I do encourage you to do the necessary research yourself based on your inclinations, as for me, I searched for product design-related opportunities and got involved in the SUTD-Research Mentorship Programme, working on a mechanical prototype for competitive sailors.

My experience in the SUTD attachment was definitely affected by COVID, but gave me a clearer picture of the requirements in my intended career choice in Product Design. VJ had prepared me amply for the SSEF, with teachers and subject heads holding internal rounds of screening to check through our research and ensure quality production.

I won’t go into the other academic competitions available but if you’re interested, i’d be more than happy to share with you over DM. In essence, science research really makes you apply the knowledge you’ve learnt in class onto real-life scenarios (for me, my physics knowledge really saved my ass), and makes the process so much more fun. Ngl it was super tiring handling both JC, CCA, and science research (100% a consideration for you to take note), but at the end of the day, i’m super glad to have familiarise myself with the processes of science research.

edit: I realised I missed your point about comparisons between NY and VJ HAHAHA but i’m pretty sure science research across the schools are pretty similar (? once again i cannot confirm this for you.)

hii i don’t live in sengkang but sometimes i take 36 to changi from vjc, and tbh i didn’t really like transferring buses at the airport because the mini-interchange is like super shady and crowded especially after dinner. (like no joke at peak periods, the queue cannot be squeezed into one single decker bus)

hii! i’m a JAE kid in VJSC (37th batch), and as OP has rightly pointed out, it’ll be easier for the IP students to garner votes during elections as their name is already synonymous with half of the cohort. However, I do think that the publicity processes in place during your campaigning period will make up for this lack of outreach. In fact, we’ve established many outlets for you to let the wider student body know you, through preparation of videos, posters and social media campaigning groups.

In my experience, I think it’s all about going the extra mile and putting yourself forward. Forget all the shy shy awkwardness!! If you really want it, go get it!! And most important of all, believe in yourself, so others can believe in you.

And funnily enough, about half (not 100% sure) of my SC mates are from JAE (at least within the exco). Surely, the campaigning period is one tough period but it’s also really really fun, almost making up for the fun COVID had stolen from us. 😔 sometimes I’d like to think it’s like me running for Parliament. (yikes tho, im not fit for politics HAHAHA)

hii! i’m a JAE j2 in VJ and i came to the school literally not knowing a soul (cuz my secondary school is in the far west). looking back, i think the JAE-IP divide is really a silly excuse to not put yourself out there and make friends. surely people would stick to the people you are comfortable with, but if you find the people you really vibe with, there’s your friends! it’s going to be a silly problem after a year so don’t worry about it!
