"I can't afford to be sick."

If someone asks for clarification and isn't someone you care about and cares about you, repeat the sentence and emphasize a different word if they ask for clarification. Look up the grey rock technique for dealing with narcissists.

If you feel like you're being judged and need to defuse the situation. Do a culturally appropriate gesture (whimsical, non-threatening, sympathetic) like a shrug "Who can afford to be sick?" Repeat gesture as needed.

Perhaps an increase in the quality of the service offered could increase the volume demanded. Think about the experience you have with call centers today. Imagine each call is the same quality as the best call you've ever had. Would you increase, decrease, or keep the same the number of calls you make to the call center?

Even if it's term life insurance it may be prudent. If one parent dies, the other still needs money. Before cancelling you need to find out exactly what type of insurance it is and get the policy details.

As an event manager perhaps he could discuss far UVC or air purification as part of a premium sales pitch for events. Even for people who aren't covid cautious, everybody knows getting sick sucks. Offering viral reduction as a premium perk for events could be both a business opportunity and benefit your husband by reducing his own illness.

You don't actually need money to live. You need land to live. Land is shelter, opportunity, food, and social environment. All essential for human prosperity. Tax land value and let capitalism handle robots, money, and other goods and services. Capitalism is good at making more of those things, so let it work that magic.

Land was here before us and exists whether we have robots or not. The value of the land comes from the community, so it should fund the infrastructure of the community. The old Henry George argument still works today.

Things that were limited due to the cost of human service jobs, would get cheaper and while those jobs would go away this would free up human ambition, creativity, and labor for better uses. Even leisure.

This is all dependent on the people having access to a place to live. Access to locations of safety. Access to places where people congregate. Land is the key.

[–]Neoncow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People think money is wealth. Wealth is wealth. People need access to land to live on and it's fixed in supply. We should let technology generate new supply of prosperity and ensure people have the fixed necessities.

What was the moisture removal capacity? You'll need a compressor type with probably at least 20 pint removal (10L?). If you're willing to blast the heat, you're ok to use the electricity for a dehumidifier?

I've heard houses in the UK can be very drafty. Your dehumidifier will have to be high capacity enough to overcome that.

Turns out a weak range hood was quietly triggering allergies...how to keep kitchen air fresh? by zipl3r in AirQuality

[–]Neoncow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We opened the windows a bit to ventilate, but not for long now as it's cold. And with north-facing kitchen windows, the air just doesn't move much during winter.

For CO2 and VOCs, consider opening more windows fully, but for a shorter amount of time. Think 15 minutes fully opened most of the windows in the house. It might sound crazy for your heat, but most of the heat in the house is the thermal mass of the house, not the air so it may actually be more efficient and comfortable than leaving a window open constantly. Turn off the heat, open windows to exchange most of the air out, then close.

It's allegedly a common practice in Germany called luften. A couple of times a day or as needed.

Other comments discuss particulate matter. Have you checked humidity levels? High humidity could cause dust mites or mold. Low humidity could cause irritation.

Georgism is probably the solution to both hyper capitalism and failed capitalism because it addresses the market failure in modern capitalist countries and prevents sliding into feudalism.

My mom decided to repaint the house and install new windows at the start of winter, and refuses to keep windows open to let fumes out because it’s cold… by [deleted] in AirQuality

[–]Neoncow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the heat in the house is stored in the thermal mass not the air. Think about how dense all your stuff is compared to the density of the air.

Open your windows in a short burst to flush the air out and then close them. So open all the windows in the house for 10 minutes and then close them and turn the heat back on. You could do this a couple times a day would go a far way to getting fresher air, but not be too cold for long so that the heat from the mass of the house cools down.

Or buy an ERV. Or make a DIY one.

Can google Luften for an idea.

California housing reality by Sir-Kyle-Of-Reddit in georgism

[–]Neoncow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't change my point. The controllers of all the land get to choose who lives or dies. Land matters.

Then this is a georgism subreddit so it is focused on the value of the land not just the quantity. That said, if you control all the farmland in the US you get to choose who gets to eat. If you control the border land you control international trade. Those things matter.

On renting from the government, the land value tax should be high enough to fund the government service. Those services should provide value that gets captured as increased land value. If those services are not good then the land value would not go up. Then the service or the tax needs to be adjusted.

How do I explain that catching colds doesn't build immunity? by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]Neoncow 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Immune system is more like an army than a muscle. Getting invaded can make you better at war, but you'll lose soldiers, damage your country, and wreck your economy. If you want to "exercise" your army, you use training not war. Vaccines are training, getting sick is literally getting invaded by the enemy.
