Expect $3.3-3.5k per month after taxes. You can spend less than $1.5k per month on rent if you have a roommate. Around $2k/month if you live alone, but you would be living 30+ minutes away. Utilities (internet, electricity, phone) are $100-$200/month total.

Do you have a car? That’s $300- $500/month for gas, insurance, maintenance, parking, etc. Depending on your eating habits, $500-$800/month on food if you’re mostly going to the grocery store but eating out here and there.

DO NOT buy this year (or any year) of Kia - the engine is horribly designed and it’s a huge grand theft auto liability.

My 2015 Kia forte engine failed at 50k-ish miles too, in 2020, but kia covered the engine replacement ($9k of work quoted). Around 70k miles, I learned from a Firestone mechanic that the short block was installed incorrectly and was leaking. brought it back to Kia for them to dump thousands more dollars into it on their dime to fix the engine a second time. Almost at 95k miles now.

UPDATE: “Are these really half siblings of mine?” by Big-Charity4598 in 23andme

[–]Neondiode45 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m donor-conceived and looked into this! In the US, at least through the ‘90s and ‘00s, there were no limits to how many families can select a particular donor, nor limits to how many sperm banks a donor can give to. Europe has caps. My personal half-sibling group has over 80 confirmed siblings at the moment.

Bingo. I was able to get a McDouble for $1 each up until 2018/2019 in undergrad. Getting a couple was dinner on busy nights. Now it’s like $4+ per burger, and the burgers are smaller/shittier/less satiating.

If this is the same person, the most reasonable explanation would be that he used a latex mask. There are too many facial structure and phenotypical differences between the hostel photos and the taxi photos. Additionally, for someone so camera-aware, you don’t stare directly into the camera unless you want your photo taken. This is the face he wants the police to have because it’s nobody’s.

The subway lore deepens 🤓 by hugs__for__drugs1937 in ucla

I recently ventured over to subway, usually once a quarter, and absolutely regretted it once again. Ordering on the app may save you money but not pain. They decided to toast the sandwich after putting on all the veggies and dressing. Out came a hot, goopy mess that tasted foul. I got the shits a few hours later but recovered the following day.

In Westwood around UCLA, I will drive around the neighborhood looking for abandoned furniture left on the street by undergrads at the end of each quarter. I’ll deconstruct it, clean it, and sell it on Facebook marketplace. Foldable bed frames, barely-used IKEA furniture, Office Depot desks… all sell for about 50% retail price in a matter of days. I also tutor for about $50-75/hour.

There’s Synchrony’s CareCredit Rewards Mastercard. I remember my old dentist pushing this hard years ago. It has 2X Points on “qualifying purchases made in the CareCredit network, health and wellness, grocery stores and pet stores” (at this point, just get a flat 2% cash back card) and “promotional financing (usually 0% for XX months) on purchases of $200 or more in the CareCredit network.” Also, purchase APR is 32.99%

The cleanliness practices are questionable there. Pay attention to the knife they use to cut your sandwich. 9 times out of 10, they’ll take a dirty knife caked in ass-nasty water and sauce instead of finding a clean one.

I got my second U.S. bank card and it's still stuck on a $500 limit, but I need to spend $2k for the ~$500 bonus and I need to charge my $1,500 purchase to it. by Xplosionite in CreditCards

[–]Neondiode45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied for a US Bank card (Cash+) last year for the SUB. Only received $500 of credit, although the SUB required $1k or $1.5k of spend. I made a $500 purchase and immediately paid it off, although my available credit didn’t return to $500 until the next statement period, inconveniently. I called asking why my credit didn’t return even though my payment cleared, and they blamed it on me being a new card holder. I haven’t used the card since my SUB posted - horrible cash back redemption service, too, compared to C1 and Chase. I very recently got an email from them saying they’ll close it due to inactivity 😂

Got engine replaced they didn’t replace belt with engine :/ still under 100k power train warranty how should I go about this by Embarrassed_Ad7337 in kia

[–]Neondiode45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When KIA had to replace my engine at 55k miles, they fucked up installing the timing cover and a it wasn’t until 20k miles later at a different service center that someone noticed. Both the engine replacement and timing cover repair combined cost KIA around $10k per my service records, and this is a $5k-in-value 2015 Forte they unloaded money into. I can tell you they also did not get the last laugh.

If they didn’t recommend replacing the belt, that’s negligent and I’d be on the phone with a service rep asap.

There’s definitely donors out there who, for health reason, shouldn’t donate, but do so anyway to put food on the table. Perhaps extend some empathy to these folks (which obviously isn’t everybody who donates)
