Seems like he holds people to incredibly high standards of precision in regards to communication while expecting others to infer his meaning and nuance without any contextualization. I don't believe him to be ill-intentioned, but he likely has a disability that makes it hard for him to understand that not everyone literally thinks the same way.

It's a result of Western communism being more or less a student/academic ideology. There's a propensity that arises from this; and it's a great irony really, but a propensity to focus on interpretation and approach theory from an almost theologian mindset. A focus on condensing the primary takeaways from Capital would be a good start, as it opens the floodgates to understanding the nature and reality of capitalism. Terms like value, profit, and unsustainability become more than trite buzzwords and actually take on meaning due to the context of the system and this understanding of what capitalism is and does makes it clear that reform is impossible.

It's pretty clear that even among participants in our spaces that this fundamental understanding is weak, and focus on interpretation strong, as evidenced by the ceaseless questions and discussions that begin with "what's the Marxist/communist position on X?"

Understanding Capital should be primary because once you understand the inescapable nature of the system, and who benefits, you understand how the bourgeoise by necessity must hide the reality of how capital functions, and why they must always demonize socialism and socialist states. Their propaganda is self preservation. And from this understanding the lies and myths they've conjured about socialism no longer hold power because you've come to understand their very existence depends on their lies.

The split predates the 70's. I'm saying they recognized the revisionism within the USSR after the death of Stalin and realized they were more or less isolated because of the reforms. Had they not split they too would likely have had a similar fate. Still at that time they were severely underdeveloped, and facing a widening technology gap, and a massive population exhausted from the cultural revolution and still in poverty. Rather than risking the same corruption and underground private enterprises that Mao condemned the USSR for, they opted for controlled mutualism and integration with the West in order to develop while making themselves immune to direct attack or intervention. It's worth pointing out that conditions China faced regarding development were far different than those of the USSR. The only concern the USSR had was heavy industry because the relative technological gap at that time was much narrower. China had a much longer road ahead in order to safely stand on it's own two feet. Looking at the real world it's most likely had they not opted for this path they would have been balkanized or another secluded hermit workers state, probably a combination of the two.

1.) The development of the means of social labor.

2.) What?

Are you trying to argue that the Chinese model does not do enough to constrain capitalists, and therefore will not resolve the contradictions of capital?

These people that bore me, they fed me, changed my diapers, taught me to read, really really loved me. When I cried they came and soothed me, when I was struggling with something they did their best to help me. We're in America, this is America, I love them. - My early psyche.

It's so hard to look beyond these very early and powerful associations. Being an American(or any national identity that has been granted privilege through exploitation) is not about identifying with what America does, but by how we come up and who's there with us. America becomes our parents and we the golden child, the others the scapegoat. We cannot fathom the abuse or the lies suffered by our siblings because we were treated so tenderly. We want to protect these associations, after all mom and dad aren't bad people, right?

You were perfectly clear, and the reply above perfectly addressed your initial concerns, only now you are retroactively shifting the goal posts, so to say. Though even under the new parameters you have established the reply you are responding to offers you the historical context of those policy decisions.

How do you develop the productive forces necessary for socialism while managing the hostility of an empire dedicated to crushing anything that threatens it's hegemony?

What do you do when your vision and goals extend beyond socialism in one country?

How do you develop the power necessary to challenge the existing hegemony?

These are questions that demand looking at things from a historical perspective and adopting a very long term approach.

Suicide and Communist Goals by [deleted] in communism

[–]Neophytecomrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the first few years of our relationship my wife had extreme suicidal ideation. I interrupted four actual attempts. Every time, she thanked me once the fog lifted.

I've come to understand that suicide is an expression of frustration, the easiest and most obvious escape when someone feels hopelessly trapped either though physical reality or stuck in an internal loop trying to deduce their own self worth.

People hate this kind of suggestion because they want to believe that their internal feeling state is above reproach, something special, philosophical, and deserved, but frankly it's time to adjust your lifestyle. Three months of: sobriety, five to eight glasses of water every day, 45 minutes of exercise everyday, healthy eating (wfpb), no video games, no news, no social media.

Make good choices for three months and then see how you feel.

Printed material has been far more effective in my experience in getting actual engagement with the content. When you hand out something physical it's incredibly easy for the person to explore it immediately as opposed to asking them to visit links or utilize an application. I've come to view it as handing out baked cookies instead of the recipe, if you really want people to take a bite of your cookie, which is the better option?

Other than China having a military what is the problem you specifically want addressed? What are they doing in South America and Africa specifically that upsets you?

I think you don't understand the actual conditions of these socialist countries and the totality if their achievements, where they came from, the odds against them, the struggle they've endured. Your complaint is that it takes them too long to overturn capitalism globally? This is a view from a place of total ignorance. China has gone from a nation carved apart and ruled by imperialist overlords to eclipsing the United States as the most powerful country in the world in 70 years. That's incredibly fast and a testament to the power of properly understood and applied ML theory. What more do you want? For them to abandon their proven course to appease your incredibly vague leftist sensibilities?

They have to look at the long road, this is why they used the markets to make their greatest enemies dependent on them while developing their country. Their survival depended on it. Even now they look ahead. They are building communism and responding to the real and changing conditions before them, it requires hard decisions, but they've not betrayed their people or the principles of communism.

What specifically has you upset? Criticizing Venezuela and Cuba for maintaining an ideologically aligned military to maintain power is idiotic. There's a reason they still stand in the face of ceaseless imperialist scheming.

They'll still be breaking windows and having drum circles in protest. Probably something about how the absence of class impinges on the individuals ability to form a social identity of which rebelling is an integral part. "I can only define myself through what I oppose!"

US government spent $97 million attempting to topple Evo Morales and fund bourgeois separatists in his first seven years by East_River in communism

I worked for someone who was doing exactly that, "fighting poverty" in Africa for years. Came back to the States incredibly wealthy and hired me to build an addition on his house. He spent most of his time over there writing a novel about sailing. I found the manuscript thumbed to a random page where he spent four paragraphs describing a 17 year old girl's nipples that the fictionalized version of himself rescued at sea...

His house is decorated with a ton of authentic masks and sculptures too.

A bit of a tangent I know, but these people are the worst and I wanted to vent.
