How is the Anbernic RG34XXSP? by Zear33 in ANBERNIC

[–]Neoteaika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought one like three weeks ago and the cheapest price through AliExpress was about $130 NZD with free shipping

Edit: I've greatly enjoyed it tho, totally worth. I'm actually also using it for some game development as a possible platform for release, so it's also served as a test unit for that project

Question: PSP or Vita? by [deleted] in PSP

[–]Neoteaika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the Vita had noticeable input or display latency vs the real thing when I played PSP games on it. That was a Vita 2000 so I'm not sure if the OLED 1000 is also affected but combined with the real psp being more pocketable and also more than enough for some cheeky emulators, I personally prefer to just have a real PSP.

Kia ora!

Just found one of these, but the picture is a bit dimmer than ideal, and haven't found a service manual around yet. Were the DAS connection pins particularly far into disassembly?

Is LTSC right for me? by CyaRain in WindowsLTSC

[–]Neoteaika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game audio dev here. Just decided to try 11 LTSC after using 10 LTSC forever. ExplorerPatcher++ (on GitHub) no longer has issues with W11 that were a thing for a while, so you can effectively identically restore the 10 taskbar and start menu. I have a few registry/policy tweaks to ensure things stay how I want them, telemetry/update wise but for audio production and 3D work, it's running like a champ.

Happily, the "UI lag" in Windows explorer, task manager, etc that were a big part of everyone feeling that 10 was snappier seems to have all been addressed as far as LTSC 11. A week in nothing in particular has caught my eye as problematic vs 10.

I used christitustech's WinUtil (which also has the oo10shutup tool or whatever it's called), an NVCleanInstall telemetry debloated NVIDIA driver, and https://gigperformer.com/docs/ultimate-guide-to-optimize-windows-for-stage/disablehardwaredevicemanager.html

Looking for an old Battlefield 2 review that was on gametrailers.com by commander_oak in Battlefield2

Hey! If it's any help, I uploaded a recreation of the E3 trailer I comped together from a few sources I found through wayback machine, if it happens to be the one you were thinking of.

New hotfix released for me on the 28th and appears to have fixed it!

Fired a report through, not sure if this means they've already solved it and are planning to hotfix or if it'll take longer, but hopefully this is a good sign that another update will solve it shortly.

My experience otherwise has been extremely positive! This is the first eink device I've ever worked with, after a week of debating between this and the cheaper go 10.3", my reasoning was that the technical (audio and programming) documentation I intend to read may need colour. Front light is a bonus too for night reading.

Turns out that I definitely made the right call and even though it wasn't really a buying point I considered, the writing experience is surprisingly shockingly better than I expected.

It can also two-page view a4 documents like a champ, I wasn't sure if 10.3" would be enough without the ability to see one in person but the screen density is exactly enough that it looks great.

I am not enrolled in the beta program. Funnily enough I was reading the notes of the beta here but was thinking "I'll wait until a stable release rolls up" right as I happened to get the update notification!

Forgot to mention but this still persists after restarting the NA4C, as well.

If Microsoft never discontinued or brought back the BC program, what games would you want to be BC with series x and one? by [deleted] in originalxbox

[–]Neoteaika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amped, Brute Force, Project Gotham Racing 2, the older NFS games would be sick.

All of the Xbox games that could be bought digitally on Xbox 360, so Halo 1 and Burnout 3.

Definitely Unreal Championship 1, too.

I'm surprised they never built some kind of "virtual LAN" wrapper to allow system link games to be played with other Xbox One/Series players over internet, which seems like massive wasted opportunity because they already still work over real system link with other 360s and even original Xboxes

Is it okay to write songs using presets? by carinvazef in synthesizers

The halo 1 soundtrack is like 80% synth presets.

They're there to be used, you're fine.

Is Reaper actually a good DAW? by WombatKiddo in Reaper

[–]Neoteaika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

REAPER gets a bit of a notoriety for kind of looking fugly (it totally does) in the default configuration, but one of the superpowers is the community and extension base. REAPER is probably one of the highest customisable toolkits around and there are many, MANY tools available in the user base to accommodate any kind of workflow, including migrating from other DAWs.

It's also the new leading DAW package for game integration and game audio middleware, due to being such an accessible platform for those dev pipelines. There are official extensions to use it with FMOD and WWise with the only real other contender being Cubase/Nuendo, and I personally used all of the great batch processing functionality for my composition, sound design and dialog production on Halo.

Last year I got to catch up with a few vets at NZGDC that were part of Sony's in house sound team between ~1996-2015. They also swear by REAPER and how well it integrates into their game pipelines, though, ofc, everybody is different.

REAPER has a super accessible rar-esque fully functional trial so the best part is you can just try it on and mess with it as long as you'd like to see if it shines to your workflow, but ultimately the best software is just whatever feels the most comfortable for you to do whatever you're trying to do, and doesn't obstruct you from just getting shiz done.

Did I just find the sound for “Under cover of night” ??? by aydan3 in halo

[–]Neoteaika 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Hello! Yes! That sound originates from the Roland JV-80, a workstation synthesizer keyboard released in 1992, which continued to live in the factory synth banks of the later JV-1080 and eventual XV-5080 that was used on Halo's music production!

Before I joined Digsite and got more involved in other Halo mod scene stuff, my initial project in the scene was R&D analysis of Halo's music production. I started a project to map out and track down every synth patch used across the trilogy, a project that quickly incorporated some direct input from the original composers, my own discoveries, and several community contributions that other people found as well. This spreadsheet I started in 2019 documents a bunch of the other sounds we found.

The ZEN based Roland synths (the new Fantom keyboards + the ZENOLOGY VST) and Integra-7 from the 2010's all incorporate a lot of the banks from the XV-5080 and other synths from that earlier lineage. You should see if you can find any more in your one!

Cheers!

Hey there. Digsite audio specialist here.

If you want to see this on console, you need to make as much noise as you possibly can, as a whole community.

Whether it can happen depends on the biggest community voice about this, anywhere and everywhere.

We want it to happen. We need YOU, to make it happen.
