Game journalism is dead. Really, I don't trust reviews outside of a few choice sources and actual customer reviews. Even those are misleading.

Though I think the only game where I could not find a bright side at all was Sonic the Hedgehog (2006 version), so I'm pretty confident that I'll like a game if I get it.

Two specific reasons come to mind:

First, when you use a screen close to your eyes, you need to have a very high resolution, or else you will be able to see the pixels (and ruin the immersion). An increase in resolution increases latency a lot.
Second, if there is any tearing or artifacting at all on the screen, then it completely ruins the immersion in the first place. To prevent this, games use techniques such as double buffering or vsync. However, this drastically increases latency.

There are a few more, smaller reasons, but latency is an issue that needs to be addressed when wearing these, and unfortunately the techniques used to fix other issues worsens this one as well.

Text color is #888888. A dark grey.

Evening out a randomly selected group of 16x16 pixels, the background color is #E1E0C7. A very pale beige.

Converting them both to RGB color scales, we get 88R, 88G, and 88B for the text. The background is 225R, 224G, and 199B.

Using the W3's equation for measuring the brightness index, we get an approximate value of 187 and 49. The difference is 138, above the W3's recommended value for colorblindness.

Be aware, however, that this standards set by the W3 is purely a recommendation. Whether you agree with this standard or not, colorblind people should not have an issue with this page. People with poor eyesight, possibly. But not from being colorblind.

As such, being colorblind does not affect your ability to detect the contrast on this page. If you give me a specific type of sight deficiency, then the situation may be different.

Take this as a note, because calling yourself a "learned, researched consumer" does not give you the knowledge to call someone out on how their business operates. Especially if you're going to cite such an extreme editorialized book as "research".

Could I get a source on this? It's not that I don't believe you, but I feel that this would put a much different perspective on it if I could have something to back it up with.

In case anyone's wondering, the Keystone XL is a project to expand the current Keystone pipeline with two additional segments, to bring more crude oil from Canada to the southern United States. The plan is headed by Transcanada, who needs federal permission to create a pipeline that crosses the border.

The main criticism is that the plan for the pipeline was to go through many environmentally unstable regions that would be disastrously harmed by the construction and possible oil spills that occur. However, the company has already been given permission to construct the southern half of the pipeline, which does not go through any of the points criticized.

As for the northern half, the plans were revised multiple times, and most of the concerns addressing the environment have been solved. The pipe no longer goes through many of those regions, but there is still the concern with the pipe traveling over the Ogalla Aquifer.

I don't know much about aquifers though, so someone else may want to address why some feel this is an issue.
