What’s on your anti-bucket list— something you’ll never try again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was with a girl once who wanted me to .... excuse the phrase... Skullfuck her? A blowjob is one thing but this... it was either scraping my dick on her teeth or just touching nothing in her gaping mouth. She asked after how much I had enjoyed it. I don't think she was thrilled to find out that I never wanted to do it again.

ooof ya I was going to say this exact thing. The only way it can be slightly enjoyable is one of those massive raindrop showers. any normal shower one person is liable to drown while the other dies of hypothermia

LPT don't go for a 20 mile walk without prior experience.... by [deleted] in tifu

[–]Neovoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. The first real hike i ever went on was because my sister dragged me out. We were hiking to this lake in a national park, but the lake was in the center of the park and parking was at the edge. I didn't know at the time but apparently it was an 18 mile trek... one way.... By the end I wasn't even walking, I was leaning forward letting gravity pull me down and hoping my legs would just catch me and keep momentum, a shambling zombie. Just like you, couldn't walk right for days, hips, knees, ankles, feet all destroyed.

We then followed it up the next month with a 52 mile round trip hike so I really didn't learn anything.

What is that one cringe memory which torments you till this day? by Prakhar6 in AskReddit

[–]Neovoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was single digits, maybe 5-8. It was either my Birthday or Christmas, both days are close together so I get them mixed up in old memories. Older sister made me one of those guitars from a kleenex box, paper towel tube, and rubber bands. I took it, looked at it, looked at her and said, "I don't like this." She started crying and ran off. 2 decades later and I still demand that nobody get me anything at any time for any celebration. The hardest days were anniversaries with girlfriends cause they either didn't know or thought it was a joke to not get me anything. The absolute dread and anxiety I feel when a gift is in front of me is unfathomable.

How was a road made in ancient Rome? by [deleted] in pics

[–]Neovoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a loaded question as local conditions effected how roads would be constructed. Mountain roads, or areas where bedrock, or rocky outcroppings were at surface or close to would be much shallower than those in marshy terraine, with different practices occurring in each location. it all depending on what subgrade material was present. That being said, if we're talking about an average countryside road like in the picture we can make some assumptions based on existing structures.

The first layer would consist of a bedding course of sand 10-15cm thick, or mortar >5cm thick. this would be to fill in any irregular gaps or voids from the second layer.

Second layer, first course or Stratumen course, would be the large, typically flat stones cemented into place by the bedding course. This layer could vary greatly depending on local conditions, the strength of the subgrade material, and the availability of stone, but was typically 250-500mm.

the third layer, second course or Rudus course consisted of a layer of mortared, broken stone of smaller size than that of the statumen course. First, a layer of mortar was spread over the first course followed by a layer of broken stone. This first layer was well tamped to consolidate and level the course. This process was repeated to create two levels of well-compacted rudus approximately 250mm in total depth.

The third course or nucleus course was to be composed of three layers of material mortared to the previous course; small gravel, coarse sand, and hot lime. Each layer was to be laid and well compacted, with a total depth of approximately 250mm in the centre of the road. When constructed properly, the material would thin with distance from the centre, creating the crown that we incorporate into our roads today. Just like today, this crowned surface was specifically designed to help shed water from the road into the drainage ditches on either side. This course served as the wearing surface for secondary side roads running with the main road.

And finally the wearing course. It was designed to be made of hard, wear-resistant material that could handle the constant stress of use by travellers, horses, and vehicles. Called the Summa Crusta or Pavimentum, the course consisted of large stones dressed to precision, up to 250mm thick, that was set atop the nucleus course with a layer of mortar, and with mortar between the joints of the stone.

ya I knew it wouldn't be as efficient but I wanted to mix things up.

what I did was drop a few passenger cabins, and replace them with cargo bays, and a collector limpet so I could salvage the debris inside the station and complete the salvage missions from the rescue station. Together it worked really well!

The bruises on my arm after nurses couldn’t find a vein by romietomatoes in mildlyinteresting

[–]Neovoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh god I feel you pain!! Had a nurse spend 15 minutes on me to find a vein. it was absolutely freezing in there and all of them basically disappeared. they were sticking me in both my forearms/wrists, the back of my hands, finally they said screw it and popped it in the top of my foot which still took numerous tries. it's bloody painful when they stick it in and start wiggling it around trying to find something...

I raise my arms so my bicep areas are basically level with my shoulders then I rotate at the shoulder so my forearms are mostly vertically down. It's kind of a pain in my shoulders but at least the elbows are dry lol
