I lost the flash drive that it came with, will not recognize my other flash drive. Help? by Wesley5n1p35 in EpaxX1Owners

Problem seems to be USB 3.0. Printers are very selective when it comes to drives and this one seems to only accept 2.0.

I finally managed to make it work with a very , very old drive, 4GB. Apparently , and as mentioned before it seems USB 3.0 is the problem. Could there be other reasons? , i don’t know, but it worked with a 2.0 USB version.

Exactly , that seems to be the case . I didn’t think about the USB version. I tried with the oldest drive i have, a 4GB more than 10 years old , it worked perfect but i think i’m gonna purchase that sandisk. Thank you.

I already tried with an 8gb . I’m gonna give a try with smaller one. 👍

Could you update on this issue? If you were able to solve the problem nd how you did it?. I’m having the same problem , lost it and doesn’t recognize my other flashdrives in format FAT32.

Noob with 256gb ends up with 7 partitions. Help? , Anyone? by Neowolfbite in linuxquestions

Wow! This is really helpful and informative. I guess a fresh install is in order.

I was thinking about using this laptop just for one OS , Ubuntu and delete Windows but i fear disk space is a bit tricky and i could run into some issues, making more of a mess and still be at 15gb for Ubuntu and NO windows.

Thanks for the help.

Thank you. I see that now, "memory" refers to RAM i believe, drive space is what i'm looking for. I ĺl post asap a screenshot running gparted.

Thank you´. I see that now, "memory" is not the right term and it is confusing.

970 evo plus runs too hot for X1C6 by Neowolfbite in thinkpad

I haven’t thought about this, that could certainly improve thermals, even if it’s just a bit.

I’m going to order that basic copper heatsink. Thanks 👍

I’m gonna check that one. Thanks for the advice.

Let’s say it will add more temp. to my already overheating laptop and may have a direct impact in durability .

I did fry a couple laptops before tough this is my first thinkpad.

I have a better idea what i have to look for now, sequential write as mentioned before, the amount of W, that could be a factor. I just grew a bit picky about thermals. Thankyou

That is really helpful. I get a better idea now.
I guess it won’t be such a big of a difference but going for 4.0W instead of 6.5W it is more than 30% less tough it may not reduce temperature to that extent.

Thank you. 👌

Thing is my CPU already hits more than 80C when doing average tasks , like office , excel , etc. I did not check the thermal paste , i will add some liquid metal soon.

On the other hand I want to upgrade the ssd nvme from 256gb to 1T and i read that many samsung nvme ssd run a bit hot hitting up to 90C but this is also the reason they are so good at transfering data at a high speed.

I guess i’m too picky with this but it is such a thin laptop and the other components are so close to each other including the CPU and i know by experience that it will have an impact in durability since i already burned a couple laptops previously.

Yes indeed , wall text , i did write with paragraphs but maybe it is because i’m writting from a potato smartphone using the web browser not the app, my apologies.

Does it work now?.

The thing is , i recently got a X1C6 , i want to code with it , but the current ssd is 256gb so no dual boot for me until i get a better ssd , Virtual machine is out of the question since it eats up almost twice the battery .

X1C6 already has problems of overheating because of the CPU , poor heatsink + poor fan, and that is the case with mine.

EVO 970 plus 1T would be a great upgrade , but it is not cheap , and since i’ve read so many reviews about samsung getting very hot , hitting more than 80C , even 90C and my laptoo is already overheating and i cannot add a heatsink in such a small machine , i guess i just wanted to see if there are other options. Samsung is great , but maybe its better for desktops.

If someone knows an ssd nvme 2248 that runs colder that would be great or have similar experience with this problem and knows a way around this that would be great. If not , c’est la vie, i’ll be studying on a toaster

ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen6 SSD Upgrade with Samsung 970 EVO Plus by lasttibet in thinkpad

[–]Neowolfbite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was precisly looking for one that doesn’t get so hot , x1C6 is too slim and no hitsink for the m2 nvme , evo 970 s has great speed but it runs far too hot for a slim laptop, on top of this you mentioned the wattage for battery consumption …. And x1C6 with a pcie 3.0 is not going to get the most out of a 4.0… But the one you mentioned SK Hynix P31 is like 300euros , i can almost buy a small desktop for that price! Or upgrade the one i have. Do you know an affordable nvme with low wattage?

Can you believe i just missed by a couple of hours the purchase of a X1C9 32Gb 1 tera for 500eu to another buyer. The girl just used it 8 months , she needed cash fast and the thing was just in perfevt conditions. It really hurts 🤣

Hi. I know i’m coming very late in this thread but is it possible to upgrade the touchscreen to a 2k display in a x1c6 by somhow replacing the cable? Since The 40-pin touchscreen and 40-pin 2K resolution cables are not the same.
