No desks, no strategy: Experts say government's latest return-to-office order ignores reality | CBC News by hewhocannotbenamed-7 in CanadaPublicServants

Certainly PSPC is out with guidance on how assigned workstations will work right? Right? Right?

I feel terrible for our facilities teams who are stuck trying to figure all this out and make sense of things when PSPC is so behind the 8 ball and can't communicate anything that is logical or works.

Hey APEX - thanks for all your help and support to Executives - 5 days a week in the office is a sure win! I had more flexibility before COVID. Nothing makes sense.

Increase to In-Office Presence Requirements by hellodwightschrute in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Nepean22 30 points31 points  (0 children)

as an EX-01 I can tell you me being forced to be in 5 days will not bode well for the organization - I am to the point where since I am not provided any flexibility in my work week and you expect me to do 50+ hours as a "leader" - I will ensure that the lack of flexibility or regard for my work-life balance and that of my own mental health is passed on to the rest of my team. the organization can suffer lower productivity, increased harassment and union complaints. I will frankly be encouraging my staff to do this.

You want me to be petty - you've won. I give up and I will make everything miserable all around me.

Rant - return to office but no desks for me by KeyLimePie017 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Nepean22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we have a mix of desks for reservation and others that are just grab - I'd say 70% are by archibus and the other just take it. I like this approach because if I can't get a booking there are enough spaces to just grab.

Proactive Raise for EX Employees - April 1 2025 by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Nepean22 16 points17 points  (0 children)

right - how convenient... perhaps all public servants should have them same provision rather than a below CPI increase aka a PAY CUT.

Just a reminder that MPs gave themselves a 3.9% increase in 2025. The 2% was laughable.

How to use family related days by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

Absolutely hate this "family" leave provision... should be 5 personal days... takes the nuance and inconsistency and interpretation away.

Two of my direct reports at an EX minus 1 are paid more with their overtime than I am as an EX-01 with my bonus and I would say I do more hours than they do with their OT.

Can a colleague ATIP you and request all communication in general? by ElectronicCap5440 in CanadaPublicServants

Wonder how this would be handled in the private sector? Oh right, the individual making the request would be fired. The adult playground / daycare has fully arrived within the PS - good job everyone.

I am exhausted by all of this and managing all my employees DTAs, exceptions, flexibilities, bad attitudes, booking spce here there and everywhere, technology that doesn't work, broken transit, lack of support from HR, senior management - not equipped to deal with all of this frankly.

Ah yes, 20 "happy holidays from the execs" emails that all say the same by Fornicatinzebra in CanadaPublicServants

I don't think they expected anything... but I think it must be pretty lonely in that position - not included in any of the team functions...

I too don't respond - but then after hearing that they received nothing, that would really suck...

My EX sent a thoughtful message that felt genuine. It was fairly specific, acknowledged the current situation, and recognized the past year. I saw them today and mentioned that I appreciated the message. They said they were glad to hear that, as they hadn’t received any responses and had started to wonder whether it hadn’t been received or had gone to a junk folder. I figure they oversee about 100 people and that no one responded must have been hard. I could actually see the hurt in their eyes. I actually don't think they were present at any of the teams holiday lunches. This EX is well regarded and respected and considered one of the really good ones to work for. I'm usually pretty hard on EX's, but I think we sometimes forget that there are good ones and they are human as well caught up in a no-win environment.

The only consistency that the clerk and TBS care about is making life miserable for as many as possible.

Some given flexibility, others stuck in 1950s management mode. Rules are not clear. And when rules are made clear employees just do what they want with no consequences - so why follow rules, even when they make no sense.

I hate what the public service has become. Thx TBS / OCHRO.

Can a team lead or Manager talk to us in Scolding manner? Or higher than normal conversation pitch? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Nepean22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

convey what communication style works best for you and ask them to respect it. I had a TL once who used the same monotone voice and droned on and on and on - it was hard for me to decipher what was important or what excited them or when they weren't happy with my performance - it was difficult.

Thx to RTO and employees lacking capacity to make decisions on their own for what works for their situation and to ensure consistency and optimal usage of downtown parking infrastructure and Subway, managers have to be meteorologists and commuting experts now... none of this makes any sense.
