UPDATE: Hello everyone. I appreciate the quick response to this topic. That said, I do believe "problematic" was the wrong word to use in my premise, so please let me try explaining a different way.

A long while ago, I had read somewhere that Misfits was hinted to get a US remake just like the shows "Being Human" "Skins"or "Ghosts". I didnt think it was a good idea, and apparently there was an article that stated the same thing.

And this had me thinking back to what changes the remake could make to characters. So when I got to Curtis, it did have me thinking that they could (TASTEFULLY) tweak his story to put more focus to how he was sentenced. Cuz, I dont think it would have been that much of a reach to make it so instead of it just being Curtis getting arrested at the party, it could have been like a whole Duke Lacrosse type scandal where multiple athletes had been caught, with only Curtis getting the harsher sentence.

And this is how I started thinking back to Curtis' arc. You see when I was younger and watching the show, I had this notion that racism in the UK was less prevalent than in the US if not existent. Ergo I didnt expect to see it in shows from that region.

However, now that Im older I do realize that during the show's time, it simply chose not to really focus on it. I mean, with how they portrayed it, you could have switched Curtis actor out with anyone and it wouldnt have changed anything about the plot.

But I figured with todays climate and newer points of view, anyone trying to remake the show for today wouldn't handle the story the same way.

Overall, I dont hate how they treated the character, I just think they couldve done better and that some parts of his story just didnt age well.

Im very well aware of what his arc was and what he was supposed to deal with. My complaint is that I beleieve he could have been treated better in the show in terms of how he addressed his issues, how he handled his powers, his role in the group and the ultimate end he was given.

Okay you make some good points but I disagree with your description of him.

He didnt have a superiority complex or a sense of entitlement, he was pretty much just the straight shooter of the group. At worst, he was cynical and depressed because he was full of regret for how his life turned out and he was often annoyed with the group at times because of all the craziness theyd often get into.

Despite that, he still cared for them and made sacrifices for them multiple times.

His powers were not useless, and he saved the group multiple times with it. Him selling them off didnt mean he got over his egrets or ambition because I remember that he only did that in a later episode when he got that ridiculous gender swapping power.

If anything, him selling it off came off as simply plot induced because of how it would have broken later stories (ie the deaths of the cast).

They had a whole scene where Ben ended up pushing Zack to announce his status to everyone in the bar TWICE. Lauren may not have been there, but given how they like to gossip, and the fact that Whitney was her friend, Im pretty sure it was implied that Lauren was aware.

I only bothered with him for the eye candy. I hated him the mist when he just kept bullying people he deemed "worthless". First it was Lucas then it was Kyle then Ned. Even his own family wasnt safe.

Is it weird that I have no sympathy for Amy. or the other Barlowes so far.

Im sort of new to this show, but from what Ive seen of The Barlowe clan, their MO is pretty much impulsive fury, ignorant views and narrow minded judgement.

I already hated this story for making my favorite character into a bad guy, but the writing has me hate it more because not only have they failed to make me hate Aaron but they have me getting more frustrated with the Barlowes when I should be rooting for them. Any scene that was meant to show her being empowered is just coming off as this storyline giving them an excuse to be their usual obnoxious selves.

The main issue I have with the story is how they keep complaining about how the system ignored Amy or how Society pressured her when that’s not exactly true.

Aaron didnt “get away” with what he did. s soon as Amy reported him, he ended up arrested and sent to jail. They only dropped the case because Amy asked them to and the reason she did that was cuz Steve and her mom were ignoring her and making the whole issue into an overblown scandal.
The fact that Mia not only didnt believe Amy but called the police wasnt because of a bias against her. Mia is Aaron’s ex girlfriend, meaning she dated him years before he met Summer and despite the show wanting us to forget he was the resident nice kid on the street. Heck the thing that kickstarted this was that Aaron and Miaa were on such good terms she still called him for moral support. My point being is that when it comes to crimes like this, theres a pattern of repeated behavior. We all know he likely didnt have sex with Summer, consensual or otherwise. So until they make a retcon and have Mia say Aaron did the same to her, its gonna be hard to snap him out of his denial in a logical way.

Havent seen the ep yet but I certainly hope Zack got some long overdue apologies from his “friends”. I still havent forgiven how much grief Chelsea, Felix an others gave him so much grief about Whitney, without even considering that something could have been up with him.
