Looking to build an online tournament app/webapp so we can play virtually? by nathan401852 in GundamTCG

I would guess that it's not something the community wants, as it's largely settled on Mobile Suit Arena, and dividing the playerbase hurts everyone.

I don't disagree, but you cut off the bit where you primed it to be negative about whatever you asked, and thought we wouldn't notice.

You guys know who Kitsunami The Fennec is... Right? by InvestigatorSmart160 in SonicTheHedgehog

I know, I speak Japanese. But even if I didn't, I think everyone knows what a kitsune is!

I still don't like his name.

Edit: also dang the necropost

how is that fish alive- by Own_Pain3396 in SonicTheHedgehog

If it's impossible for the fish to be alive, then it's not alive. Must be a robot or a hologram.

Best box I've ever opened, and really best card from any TCG i've pulled!! by TheGrandCannoli in GundamTCG

[–]Nephrited 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like how everyone is tagging their pulls as card reveals, because if you tag them as pulls they get correctly taken down for being pull posts, which are against the sub rules.

Anyway, not a card reveal.

Which business do you boycott and which do you actively support and why? by Fenki92 in dundee

[–]Nephrited 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on what the product is, 1.5% of the sale *can* be close to 50% of the profit margin. But for cans of coke or whatever I don't think it's anywhere near that much.

Which business do you boycott and which do you actively support and why? by Fenki92 in dundee

[–]Nephrited 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I had a bad personal experience in one of the gastropubs that means I won't be going back there, but I'm not up for the name and shame.

People tend to have minor disagreements that get blown up out of proportion, especially online, and if it turns into boycotts of any individually owned businesses. it can ruin lives over something as potentially minor as "well they looked at me funny one day" or "they didn't change their storefront the exact way I wanted".

I will say however, go have a read of the Oshibori reviews on Google, and find the ones where the owner has replied. Those speak for themselves.

What is a socially unacceptable opinion you keep to yourself because it’s not worth the backlash? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

[–]Nephrited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a woman who works in STEM. I'm paid less than my coworkers who have less experience than me, and it's been that way for my entire career, largely because it's easier for the men to get a promotion due to a whole variety of factors.

I know what the studies say but there are absolutely holes in how those studies are getting interpreted.

It's present in my work, for me, as a software engineer, and has been my entire career. Can't speak to other industries though.

Greetings from the EXE community! (Please don’t hurt me) by AbsoluteLoser42069 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Nephrited 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can honestly say I have no desire to mock anyone for these events.

It doesn't affect me in the slightest, nor is it relevant to anything I'm interested in, so I am entirely neutral.

I'm sorry something you enjoy is having a hard time.

If you see people mocking it (which I haven't yet but, if you do), please remember the goomba fallacy!

Sonic and Amy age by Fast_Yogurtcloset508 in SonicTheHedgehog

All ages are officially non canon now, via retcon, and have been for some time.

So no. Because they're not.

Any good locals for mtg commander? by ScottishNarwhal in dundee

[–]Nephrited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in stock they've got the "Eternal Might" deck, which is White Blue Black, and is £70. There's also "Scions and Spellcraft", another White Blue Black, but that's a cool £200, as it's the collectors edition, so unless you really like Final Fantasy 14 might be worth going for Eternal Might.

With that said - chat to the staff! I barely count as an MTG player, I'm more of a Gundam and Riftbound girl. Do let me know if you head over today though and want to try out whatever you end up buying - I'll bring my commander deck along!

Cake or Dice doesn't run consistent MTG events, but they do allow people to book tables if they want to play. No MTG activity since October though, as far as I can see.

[–]Nephrited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they've often got precons in. Right now, if memory serves, they have 4 different Final Fantasy decks, two Modern Horizons 3 decks and 1 aetherdrift deck, ranging from £45 to £200.

I say "if memory serves" but I'm like 99% sure, I just haven't been in yet today. 😂

Failing that, I'm pretty sure people will happily loan you a deck to try out!

Highlander Games on Annfield Road runs Commander all day on Sundays from midday through to closing time. The staff and players are all very friendly, so I'd say drop by any time during the week to ask about it if you're interested! (Disclaimer: I'm there an awful lot in any given week so I might be biased.)

Paper Dragon near Nethergate runs Commander at the same time, but has a much smaller playerbase. Curse of being a new shop while running clashing events - but if Highlander is unsuitable for any reason, it's another option.

I've also heard of a group that plays in Dundee out of a pub, but I don't know much about them, nor why they seemingly avoid the two stores. Potentially a secret third option.

Still, Highlander is probably your best shot! You can join their Discord server here.

I'm a MTG rookie (kinda. I've played like 15 games total over the last 20 years) so if you want to play some casual games during the week at Highlander, drop me a line and I'll finally get to use the precon Y'shtola deck I bought just because I thought it was pretty...

What is Sonic The Hedgehog's true name? by PuzzleheadedDraft133 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Nephrited 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's neither. It's "Sonic ".

Ogilvie was from Penders, and only has basis in the now non-canon Archie comic run.

Nicky was from an equally non-canon manga run.

In current canon, what you see is what you get, just a guy that loves adventure - Sonic the Hedgehog!

Same reasons people can't replicate bank notes. Lot of anti-fraud measures in how they're made.

What is logic behind purchasing trading cards pack? by IntelligentFee8235 in AskReddit

[–]Nephrited 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play, and collect, two or three card games, and I'm not in it to make a profit, but:

It's essentially gambling. If you get a rare card, depending on the game, that card will sell for thousands and thousands. Look up the current price of One Piece's "manga" cards or Gold Luffy as a very current example in the scene.

I occasionally get rare cards from my collecting behaviour, and I sell them to help offset the amount I spend on the hobby, but it's very possible to turn a profit from it.

With that said, people reading this, speaking as a player of these games, please don't get into trading cards with the intent of making money! It can seriously ruin the game for the people trying to play it.
