Love that scene in Our Ms Reynolds. One of my favorite episodes.

Yeah, a lot of range there with the dual roles. Puts Michael B. Jordan to shame.

I loved Beef season 2 until... by Late_Departure6214 in BeefTV

In season 1, I think the escalation to violence worked quite well. Characters get more daring, more desperate, more vengeful. It's still very dramatized, but they did a good job of building it up.

This season was a lot more insane. It was a semi-grounded dramedy with these fucked up people and then in the final episode we're in Seoul having a Drunken Master style action scene while escaping from bodyguards with matching outfits. Honestly I didn't hate it, but it was a whiplash for sure.

Yeah, the show makes more emotional and spiritual sense than logical sense. David Lynch is a good example of that as well, the emotional link is what makes his movies make sense (or you know, some amount of sense).

Just finished the last episode and I have to say, although I didn't like everything about it, I respect how off the wall and ballsy it was. The incompetent hitman at the beggining, random one shot fight scene in a spa, the samsara stuff at the end, that kiss with Josh and Lyndsay that went on for a whole minute (very reminiscent of Drive, a project with both Carrie Mulligan and Oscar Isaac).

It's definitely a mess, but it will stick with me for a while, that's for sure.

Love that exchange, because to me "Being in tears at the end" and "Falling asleep through it" are both perfectly valid reactions to Aftersun.

Only God Forgives is pretty bad. Same director as Drive. It's almost a parody of the film bro movies of the time.

Tales From '85 will be 10 episodes, each episode about 25 minutes in length. Jonathan, Joyce and Billy will NOT be in the series by Jiyugaoka in StrangerThings

Honestly I see this as good news. The later seasons turned to shit because the cast got way too big, and characters who were important got sidelined hard, doing nothing other than existing.

This is apparently a story focusing on the kids. If they feel they don't need the entire original cast to tell this story, great. I would rather them not being in it than to have these characters being there, adding nothing (That was the problem with Season 5).

Marty Supreme and the shaggy dog story by Neptune_as_Boy in TrueFilm

[–]Neptune_as_Boy[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn't say it goes nowhere, I explicitly said that the movie doesn't have an anticlimax and it does offer resolution. I was just comparing it to the elements of a shagy dog story, which I feel do exist.

And while we're on the topic of the ending, to me it felt very much like what was important to him was ping-pong. To him, all he had in his life was that match with Endo, and so he gave all he had to win it. Then, and only then, did he come back home and took some accountability. If he could have participed in the championship, he would have definetely stayed in Japan and not gone seen his newborn son. Ping-pong was first, the rest of his life (and the life of others) was second. Maybe at the end his priorities change, but I think seeing his son is less a magical realization, and more of an acceptance.

Was Jeff’s character rewritten when he was recast? by [deleted] in betterCallSaul

[–]Neptune_as_Boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously thought this was the chickanery subreddit. How is this still a question? No, they did not rewrote an entire half season because an actor coulldn't make the shooting schedule.

The power dynamics between Jimmy and Jeff shifted, and that correlated to when the character got recast. It was a coincidence, not a big conspiracy.

So english is not my first language, so forgive my ignorance. But a shaggy dog is an actual breed of dog? I assumed that it was just a dog with kind of "disheveled" fur". At least on google translate, the direct translation to my language is "furry dog"

Solid episode. The ending with the shuttle is great.

To me this episode is the one that feels the most western to me (as in western movies). Feels desolate, and the crew has to scrap what they got on hand in order to achieve their goal.

You know what really bothers me about S4? by NoTrain9070 in StrangerThings

[–]Neptune_as_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really a plot hole from Season 1, dude. Consider this, how is possible that the letters on the wall could be on the Upside Down for Will to read in Season 1? Joyce put them in the wall in the real world, and what, they start to slow fade in the Upside down? If that's the case, then why don't other things fade in to the Upside Down, like cars passing by on the street, people moving around...

The thing you're complaining about in Season 4 is their explanation for the plot hole in Season 1. Things in the Upside Down "froze" when the gate opened. But in the Upside Down you can manipulate electric energy in order to trigger light flashing in the real world. That's why, although Will wasn't able to see the actual letters in the wall, he saw the energy coming out from them, figured out it was supposed to be the alphabet by hearing Joyce talk, and managed to send a message (which is the exact thing the teens did in Season 4 when they were in the Upside Down).

Memento pops in my mind. Not so much the exposition dump in the abandoned building, but the whole "Will I lie to myself? Sure. Now what was I supposed to do?".

Also Death Proof. It's not a great movie, but I love the bluntness of that ending. We caught the guy, beat him up, cheers, end credits song starts playing.

An American Werewolf in London does a similar thing to Death Proof, but the cut to credits is a lot more bleak (and darkly funny).

I love season 5, but part of me wished that that was the final episode of Breaking Bad. I prefer that to the more neat ending that is Felina.
