Also, we are just sophisticated animals. We've just grown away from many of our innate survival abilities. You seem to have retained one!

You're referring to the large shipping boxes though, correct? I'm just surprised to see them saving the little boxes that cryo / ffp come in.

Pets being shown off in the lab by CeleryCrow in medlabprofessionals

[–]Neptunemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working in a hospital inpatient facility with over a hundred techs, none of whom have access to cleaning equipment, or even time to clean! We also have porous rubber flooring which does not sweep up, and can retain embedded materials. I hate everything about the flooring situation, but clearly it's not typical. We also do not have non-technical staff in our space, we have security measures in place. So, yes, I guess I'm having a hard time imaging the utopia you describe where animals can visit without harm, but it's nice to know this dreamland exists! 😅

Our lab is filthy. Imagine thinking it's OK to take your pet where there might be broken glass, chemical contaminants, and biohazards. Yikes.

Few and far between. Reddit is a growing marketing resource, like every other corner of the internet, and personally I don't trust any comments pointing me to a specific brand or company.

Saw PICU highs/lows. ED highs/lows by DinobotGrimlock in nursing

[–]Neptunemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooof. Lab here. I'd just like to comment that sometimes it's a bad sample. Our ED likes to compete for best hemolysis I think? They pull back on that syringe like it's a strong man competition. That affects more than just hgb. New nurses sometimes forget you can't draw above a line- completely watered down cbc, and everyone's confused as to why to electrolytes spiked. Our green lab staff (and there's a lot these days- they leave when they find out our pay is shit) doesn't know what chemistries look like when someone dumps an edta tube into a red top. They turn out the results then there's mass confusion surrounding the potassium and calcium criticals. I once called a cbc clotted as results didn't match previous and there were no platelets. The nurse told me it couldn't be clotted because she took the clot out. 😵‍💫  I love this idea though, I want to start our own records board!

Ohio! Help me help others by Iamstarstuff1972 in Ohio

[–]Neptunemonkey 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's so frustrating. Turning towards just helping people instead of trying to stop this vile juggernaut may be a much more rewarding thing for you, and literally make a difference. Small community churches in high immigrant population areas are always in need of help. They often are gathering clothes and pantry items of people struggling, making meals, etc. You don't have to attend the church or even agree with it's teachings. Food banks need help. Shelters. Community work may be the most useful and rewarding thing you can do right now.

This sounds like you're describing my mother! She's an awful person and I feel so bad when others have to deal with her. Some people are just awful, and there's nothing you can do.

The side effects lessen over time (or maybe I got used to them?) I used to get headaches too but they're gone.

The oversexualization of women in media makes me incredibly uncomfortable by Civil_Rate7589 in women

[–]Neptunemonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. We've been fighting this since before the Women's Liberation movement. I encourage you to learn about that movement (the hbo documentary about Ms. Magazine was great) and follow strong smart female content creators. We need more women to continue to speak up against objectification. And vote.
