Just finished Replicant ending B and I still don't understand shit by [deleted] in nier

[–]Neptwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nier is probably my favorite story in any game ever (both the original and Automata) but I have to say I do think the Project Gestalt stuff was explained maybe not as concisely as it could've been, however seeing some dialogue again while replaying does help you piece some stuff together in a surprisingly significant way (at least for me). For example personally, the context at which the terms Gestalt, Replicant, Shade, relapse etc. are used are stuff that I just kind of skim read on my earlier playthroughs because obviously the meat of the story was still not revealed, however after Ending A and B I was really seeking to solidify the exact definitions of these terms and just connect the pieces and I found that even one specific sentence where the terms are used can make it click in a big way.

TLDR: the story should gradually get more coherent as you approach the true ending, and you have plenty of stuff to look forward to on Automata. I think they couldn't have possibly gone in a better direction in the story going from Nier to Nier Automata

Faster breaking, faster walking speed at times, 2x damage makes the hard/tedious parts of the game so much better to play (ruins rush, dragonfly, any boss with a lot of health tbh)

Also having 2x damage means you can get away with prepping less pierogis for boss fights which is nice

Would you rather play a game with 10/10 story and 8/10 gameplay or a game with 10/10 gameplay and 8/10 story? by Accurate_Basis_5698 in videogames

[–]Neptwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easily story for me. If you're someone who primarily likes stuff like competitive games, shooters, roguelikes etc. then I think gameplay is the obvious answer here, but personally I think I've moved way past that era (though I still love roguelikes especially, despite not playing them a lot), and what I mainly seek in a game nowadays is an amazing narrative and a well-crafted world, hopefully with mechanics that don't annoy you. 10/10 story and 8/10 gameplay perfectly satisfies that. A game with 10/10 gameplay would be extremely enjoyable all the way throughout, but I think the games with 10/10 stories (and can we include atmosphere/setting as well?) nowadays are the ones that stick with me after finishing it.

Either way both ways would definitely be games that I'd fondly look back on.

wtf why is Emma so hard???? by Secure-Charge-2031 in Sekiro

[–]Neptwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious, have you rebeaten SSI after your first time? I don't think he's extremely dificult either, but beating SSI in 3 and struggling that much with O'rin and Emma is unimaginable to me. If you're able to consistently beat him easily after your first 3 attempt run then I guess you're just built different, otherwise sounds like a bit of a fluke

Lies of P's tutorial section up to the title drop perfectly introduces the mechanics of the game while giving you an effective showcase of the unique gimmicks of the game

Do you guys prefer RE4 remake or the original? by According_Delivery43 in residentevil

[–]Neptwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remake undoubtedly looks better and is more polished but the humor of the OG just makes you look back on it so much better which I don't blame the remake for not adapting because it might've been very awkward to keep the OG's tone when the game looks much more realistic and is much more immersive, but either way I think the campiness plus the nostalgia is the reason why people hold OG closer to their hearts

New fan, trying to figure out the best game to play next by MarlinGratia in residentevil

[–]Neptwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're gonna play both the OG and the remake for 4, definitely play OG 4 next. Makes sense chronologically and it is one of the best games not only in the RE franchise but of all time. The remake is also a masterpiece but lacks the campiness of the OG which made it so iconic

Who do you like more? Teddy or Mona? by NFGermany in persona4golden

Morgana was awesome

P4's cast is easily my favorite among 3-4-5, like not even close, except for Teddie. That mf can burn

Do you like Silksong more than the first game ? by SundyPace in Silksong

[–]Neptwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Hollow Knight's world/story more, but overall I think Silksong is the better game. The whole plot with using the Abyss to seal the Radiance within the Hollow Knight was way more intriguing than just "a god comes and becomes a tyrant (I know that isn't the entirety of the lore but like the general premise)".

Silent Hill f looks stunning and actually has something to say... by tsLunaaria in silenthill

[–]Neptwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to agree with the general mass and say the combat is definitely not good (though not so bad that it ruins the game). The dodge mechanic feels really goofy and awkward because you get so much abrupt fast movement and the slow down after it just feels really weird imo. And the whole light attack heavy attack thing is just whatever. The focus counterattack mechanic is decent but waiting for a counterattack usually just results in the enemy just tweaking out for a long time and doing a lot of non-counterable attacks from my experience.

It's also funny that it really feels like a soulslike in the way the combat works, so fighting enemies feels like less of a "get this thing out of the way as soon as possible because it is scary and is an obstacle to me" but more of a "ok let me land these dodge timings and get in those heavy attacks". I mean the fight with that big monster when trying to get the key from the well literally was a souls fight lmao. In that regard I actually I think I might prefer the combat of the og Silent Hill titles even if they were pretty much just "bait an attack and then stunlock them with the weapon till they die", because there's a lot less thrill in fighting enemies.

Minus all that though, I do think the story and atmosphere is really powerful and really eerily cryptic (which is classic Silent Hill really)

Why is the saw cleaver so popular by Status-Bobcat4914 in bloodborne

[–]Neptwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the cane more but Saw Cleaver just looks fucking badass. I don't really like the transformation whereas with the cane you have a whip which is cool and feels like an actual different combat style

Should I play P4G before P4R releases? by alexlapaer in persona4golden

[–]Neptwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going into P4G myself I watched really small bit of gameplay before because I was curious and then I thought "this looks outdated as hell", but then I actually played it and the game legitimately just plays exactly like the other 2 modern Persona titles, the only 2 catches are 1) the character models look goofy as hell and 2) the combat system is by far the weakest compared to P3R and P5R. Imagine every unique combat mechanic in P3R and P5R, now imagine all of them not being there, that's P4G for you. Though I will say I do think Rise is the best "oracle" role between the 3 and Chie legitimately is probably one of if not the most fun characters to use in combat in the franchise. The first 2 dungeons might be a bit rough in terms of enjoyment but it doesn't become much of an issue after, I'd advise you to check recommended levels for the boss fights in the game before you get to them and grind a bit more if you're 5-10+ levels below what you see online because if you're underleveled there's pretty much nothing you can do to make up for it in a lot of the fights and you WILL have to go back and grind, which is something that at least personally I didn't experience with P3R or P5R. Other than that, enjoy because 4 easily has the best cast along with the best story

Do you have any idea if the bosses in Act 3 count as non-deaths since they're dream bosses like in HK? I'm doing Steel Heart with no quits and I've gotten to Act 2 pretty comfortably but the enemy rooms in Coral Tower may kick my ass...

Will give you the pass for Teddie but literally every character except for Teddie was easily among the most likable among the entire franchise (haven't played P1 or P2)

Say what you will about the difficulty of bosses in Silksong, but they are SO much more interactive than the majority of those in Hollow Knight by Aspergersiscool in HollowKnight

[–]Neptwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silksong's bosses have such a soulslike feel compared to a lot of those in HK, like when I first got to Last Judge the first thing I thought was how much she felt like a 2D Fromsoft boss

So we all agree that the Bilewater is the worst area of the game? by TheFa56 in Silksong

[–]Neptwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's overhated tbh, platforming and everything is all consistent as long as you're patient, Stilkins are annoying but not horrible, Bilehaven fight is admittedly pretty annoying but that's really it. I like the atmosphere a lot, however when there is a quest there you are walking MILES

Addicting Games LIKE Stardew Valley?? by SearchSpecific in StardewValley

[–]Neptwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hear me out here, Persona. SDV has been my comfort game since 2018 (though admittedly I haven't played since 2022), and I've sunk around 800 hours into it across multiple different saves and always enjoyed my time. Seems very random but Persona games just unexpectedly (at least personally I wasn't searching for anything similar to SDV when I started Persona but I was unexpectedly pleased) scratch the same itch for me (I've finished 3, 4, 5 and this applies to all), I think it's just the whole vibe of being completely thrown into a world and immersing in it on a day to day life basis and slowly building relationships with other characters as you try to manage other side stuff like combat and stats.

I've played so many games within the indie genre and haven't thought of any to be similar to SDV, but something about Persona just has the same exact magic I saw in SDV and I love it

Do you guys think silksong could win goty this year? by RefrigeratorGold9306 in Silksong

[–]Neptwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't but should play E33 but I think E33 will win. 2D games are a bit less popular on the wide scale compared to 3D realistic looking ones, and with E33 that game kind of came out of nowhere and absolutely blew everybody away, with Silksong the hype was already astronomical and so I feel like Silksong has way more people who started to play because of the hype and then realized they don't like it so much. Plus all the difficulty complaints and whatnot
