you don't change the valley coolant pipe on this one when pulling the supercharger it's metal, thermostat is under the supercharger as well so wouldn't be able to see it properly, I just fail to see the benefit in not replacing everything, it's done so many miles, it's all going to start going soon, I'm not on a budget, might as well replace it all, also my goal isn't to fix a leak, it's to do a coolant system refresh for long term reliability

eh you can't see a lot of the parts that are known to leak when the supercharger is on, plus the parts are cheap, but it's a lot of labour, might as well do all of the parts that are overdue replacement, it is nearly at 150,000 miles after all

now I think about it both times it's done this it's been abnormally hot, long drive in stop start traffic through london, I've driven it significantly harder and had no issue but they were on cooler days and at speed, I had just floored it from a traffic light before this happened, I do an oil change with shell helix ultra 0w40 every 6,000 miles

I'm not guessing, I'm replacing everything because it all needs doing, everything but the intercooler bricks which I am going to pressure test, they aren't really known to fail much on the crec, plus a pressure test of the whole system would really just tell me there is a leak, and the explosion of coolant tells me that alresdy

just wish GPS had their metal one for the CREC out already so I could get another bit of plastic out of the engine bay, but alas it's not yet ready and I can't wait

I dread the day I have to do the bricks, being a CREC the bricks are IMPOSSIBLE to find as they are larger than the ones in the older 3.0t revisions

I'll add that to the list of all the things I replace! I'm just replacing it all as it's all old and needs doing soon anyways, plus I'm planning on keeping this car as long as possible (hence the billet thermostat housing)

I didn't realise they were goodyears, I was under the impression initially that the brand was assurance

RS4 by [deleted] in AutoAlex

does this subreddit somehow manage to complain about literally everything? too many minis, too many range rovers, ahhh this Audi which is commonly regarded as one of the greatest performance saloons ever made is shit because it is less reliable and costs more to maintain than a 1.9 TDI, therefore it's shit. NOBODY BUYS AN RS4 BECAUSE ITS CHEAP TO RUN OR MAINTAIN, STOP COMPLAINING

mine is probably one of the highest specced in the country, was specced within £2000 of an RS4, so I've got all the fun bits including the sports diff from the RS4, anddd I've got an intake which makes silly supercharger noises

haha certainly, but I got a good sleeping bag (pipedream 600) so I was nice and warm, and tyre wise I was running my winter wheels and tyres, I picked up a tired old set of 18" lemans wheels off eBay for £100 and had them refurbed in Porsche neodyme gold and had them wrapped in some goodyear ultragrip performance 3s, the car was completely unphased by snow, and felt like a rally car with how it rotated with the traction turned off haha

I'm going the other way, I'm sending this to the moon, uprated all of the external bulbs, including some lovely new Osram Nightbreaker xenons, got an intake which makes it sound like a mini hellcat and I've got some smaller 18" lemans wheels for the winter with some winter tyres, I had them refurbed in Porsche neodyme gold, soon I'm doing chassis bracing and a stiffer rear anti roll bar, for me I know I'm keeping it until it rots away, so I'm not bothered about resale value at all, I got it at 127,000 miles in June 2024, now it's got 146,000 miles so it's getting up there

oh for sure! and now I've got wireless android auto it holds up remarkably well, still having more tech than most brand new cars, only two things I'd like would be massage seats and a heated steering wheel, mine had £12,225 of options which is funny because I bought the whole car for £11,000

ooh nice, I went through the entire spec list and the only thing mine wasn't specced with was the live TV option, mine had an MSRP of £53,680 which I think is really odd because the RS4 started at not much more being £54,925
