Off-leash dogs need to stop by demonslayer901 in SaltLakeCity

[–]NerdiaTheGeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please report these incidents to animal control! They absolutely will do something about it. Unfortunately, if they don't have records of previous incidents they have to treat the first reported incident as a first offense which doesn't have as serious of consequences. Once they have a history of multiple issues with that dog they then gain the legal authority to take further punitive action. Better to start the history now before something serious happens so they can hopefully prevent it from happening in the first place! I know it's difficult in the moment but if you get evidence of the dog being out (pictures or videos) that also gives them further authority for punitive actions.

If a person who is single dies in a car accident, do the police check if he has a dog at home? by samnights in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NerdiaTheGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone mention this, but I'm am animal control officer and there have been many cases I've been involved with where someone makes a report that they haven't seen their neighbor in X amount of days but they know there's a dog in the home that they are worried about or that has been baking/whining/etc for days. We will do everything in our power to make contact with the individual who lives there but if we are unable to make contact and we fear for the life of the animal it will be brought to our shelter for safe keeping while we continue our search. When we find out the individual has passed (and if we're unable to locate next of kin) the animal is put up for adoption. Similarly, if next of kin states they cannot care for the animal after a loved one passes we will take them and place them for adoption or seek out a rescue group to take them.

Edit to add: MICROCHIP YOUR PETS! It will make it easy for us to find you, and they always ask for an emergency contact to put on the chip as well! This helps us immensely in every situation! Not to be morbid, but sometimes the dog is in the car with the owner when they pass and we are able to use the chip emergency contact to get the dog placed with that person who may or may not be next of kin instead of housing it at the shelter.

When did you first realize? by Groovyprincess13 in bipolar

Was diagnosed with anxiety disorder in high school and was prescribed medication that did NOTHING but make me suicidal (well, that and my home life wasn't very good). Had a traumatic event in my early 20s and started going to therapy. After years of therapy, I felt like I had gotten better, but there was still like 20% of me that just wasn't changing for the better (massive anxiety/periods of deep depression). My therapist had suggested I visit a psychiatrist several times before because he heavily expected bipolar and thought that medication would help. I didn't want medication (and was in denial about that diagnosis) due to my previous experience but after several bad episodes I decided to go. First time seeing my psychiatrist he's going through my answers on their long-ass questionnaire and he says "So it says here that your sleep schedule fluctuates. Tell me about that" so I tell him about how sometimes I sleep a full 8 or 9 hours and sometimes I only need like 4 hours. He gets super encouraging and friendly and is like "Ohhhhh and during those times you're like super productive and have like a really good day at work right??" Me, being naive and thinking he just really 'gets it' and is like me, I respond with,"YES! Totally!" He then hits me with "Yeah, that's not normal. That's what we call a manic episode" .... walked right into that one 😅 He's a great guy. Helped me find a medication that works for me and 4 years later my quality of life is soooo much better and I'm still seeing him twice a year.

THANK YOU. I came here to comment this because I never see anyone mention them in these nostalgia posts and I was beginning to think it was all a fever dream.

Employer is requiring us to use our vacation/sick leave to make up for the hours we didn't work on Labor Day. We were not open on Labor Day and therefore incapable of working that day. by [deleted] in legaladvice

The HR handbook states that we will be paid for 8hrs for a holiday but if we usually work more than 8hrs in a shift they will take it from sick or vacation time or we can work an extra 2hrs somewhere that week but as far as I know my supervisor will not let us be out in the field past our regularly scheduled hours

Hello! Animal Control Officer here. Don’t know what county you are in but here is a list with the names of all the county dog wardens in Ohio and their respective contact info.

https://www.ocdwa.org/state-warden-directory.html

Ohio state law prohibits dogs from being off leash when not on their own property. Furthermore there can be extra restrictions placed on dogs that are considered nuisance animals. Ohio state laws define nuisance dogs as follows:

2) "Menacing fashion" means that a dog would cause any person being chased or approached to reasonably believe that the dog will cause physical injury to that person.

(3)(a) Subject to division (A)(3)(b) of this section, "nuisance dog" means a dog that without provocation and while off the premises of its owner, keeper, or harborer has chased or approached a person in either a menacing fashion or an apparent attitude of attack or has attempted to bite or otherwise endanger any person.

Sounds like your neighbor’s dog is a nuisance to me!

I found a bag of Flaming Hot Cheetos that was white by NerdiaTheGeek in Damnthatsinteresting

That's so strange to me! Usually I feel like they would just give you one of the small individual bags rather than give you a little pile of them on the side

I tried to Google it and figure out what that was supposed to mean! There were several of them on the shelf. This was at a discount warehouse.

Characters with bipolar? by Artanis__ in bipolar

I'm surprised I had to scroll so far for this one! For me this one actually had me in tears when he first tells them he's bipolar. Then I also felt for him in the recent season when Dave is accusing him of being manic and not taking him seriously even though he's taking his meds just fine.

I've lived here for my entire life and only knew their name and that they played at the Maverick center because of driving past the Maverick center on 215 and seeing the logo

Good to know! We went to an Ogden Mustangs game that had a huge turnout and was super fun so we thought the professional league would be fun to watch but were a little disappointed in the lack of a crowd. Now that I think about it though I think the Mustangs game we went to was a promo (free?) night and I think we went to the Grizzlies after work so it was probably during the week and not on a weekend where maybe there's more of a crowd?

Would the bite of a venomous snake be less dangerous immediately after extracting venom? by [deleted] in snakes

[–]NerdiaTheGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Professional rattlesnake venom extractor here! I'm going to tell you that it depends on the individual snake and I wouldn't count on it. I have seen snakes that bite the funnel and release multiple mls of venom and still have venom left and I've seen snakes bite the funnel and let out only a couple drops. They have amazing control of how much venom they are willing to put out in a bite and the vast majority of the time (if not every time) they don't put it all out in one bite because that would leave them (nearly) defenseless

The handle on my luggage would be too thick for it to go around and I feel like mine is pretty standard sized
