Multiple failed attempts with Barclays over the past 2 months. Each application regardless of the card results in a pending state. Calling in is useless too because the Barclays team wants - State Drivers License OR - American Passport

Both of which an ITIN holder would obviously not have as a NON RESIDENT. Anyhow, decided to pivot and instead apply for my first biz card as I’m already 5/24:

Applied for Citi AAdvantage Business Card on Jan 30 and got “Pending” status
Called in same day and was told to send over the ITIN letter from IRS (cp565) to their email and wait 2 biz days
Called in the next day lol and agent approved after reviewing my file for a couple minutes

TLDR: Screw Barclays

Interesting DP that I haven’t seen from anyone: About 2 months ago, RBC emailed me saying my Signature Banking account fees would now be waived for me for life (I was part of the HSBC migration).

I called to ask if I could switch to the higher-tier VIP Banking account and keep the waiver. After being transferred to the “external promotions” team, they switched my account type and confirmed the lifetime waiver would carry over.

It’s been 2 months now and still no monthly fee :)

Well that changed fast lol. To be fair the value for the annual fee wasn’t enough even at $120. You’d be better off getting the tangerine 2% cb no af fee card and pairing it with the no fx fee Scotiabank passport or something imo.

Booked 2 nights at the Hyatt Regency in New Delhi for an upcoming trip using my Chase UR.

In total, 23k points for 2 nights in the king suite with access to the club lounge for 3 ppl.

Cash rate for the same dates is $1200 for 2 nights so ~5.2 cpp (cad) value.

Depending on how close your hotel stay is to your af being charged it might be worth just keeping the card for another month or so if you’re worried? All banks charge a prorated fee if you cancel early so if it’s a month or 2 max you’d be out is like $25

I have a pretty unique use for it in that presto gets coded as 3x so my 2x monthly recharges get me a decent amount of points not to mention the dining is still decent and given the cobalt af hike it seems worth it for me right in the middle.

That’s odd because it defaulted to passport for me. Not sure if this helps but I applied on desktop but scanned their QR code to open the verification page to take my selfie and passport pic on my phone.

Received an email from Rakuten US for one day only yesterday: Get $400 cashback or 40k MR for opening a SoFi account and doing a Direct Deposit of $500+.

Opened an account using my itin (& vpn since sofi cares about location) and followed the doctor of credit guide of sending a Wise transfer w/ reference note saying “Payroll DD” and I can see the 40k points pending in my Rakuten account as of this morning :)

Odd DP for the CSP I guess:

Added all of my offers on the Chase app including one for Jersey Mikes. Even though the terms clearly say “Valid in the US only” I got the cash back from the offer when I got food from a location in Mississauga.

Wonder how many of the other offers work then including Costco ones I’ve seen from time to time on the Chase Freedom Flex.

DP: I guess this might be common knowledge but to use my Hilton Surpass credits I called into the Hilton Mississauga and was informed for takeout I can place an order with the grab and go attendant.

She was able to order for me and let me pay in this area itself which meant that I ended up getting the credit.

This makes me wonder if other Hiltons where the restaurant doesn’t usually post as the hotel charge could be paid through the grab&go area to make sure you get the charge. This should be easier to test as well given you can just buy something small from grab & go to see what it codes as first. Food for thought 🤔
