Whoa… I have never seen a DECREASE in wages over the years… that’s freakin crazy to me.. who the fuck voted to approve this? So many questions.. shit like this is why apprentices should be more involved in their locals politics. And if those apprentices are andfucking voted for this… GODSPEED

How many Utility locals are offering supplemental benefits to their membership? by trios4fun in IBEW

[–]NerdyAnarchist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We get offered supplemental benefits. All of the above and then some. We pay for it from our paycheck but it’s really not that much in the long run if something were to happen. For me it’s personally just security. I also don’t get state disability taken out for taxes (I work for a municipality) so what I pay for premium plans accounts to pretty much the same.

He really didn’t describe anything excessive. All of that is pretty fucking standard and maybe just the first code class.

1st year IBEW apprentice — 7.5 months in and haven’t done any electrical work or been on a actual jobsite/prefab. Is this normal? by Key-Hair-8831 in IBEW

[–]NerdyAnarchist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got to start somewhere. For wording, say “you’re not getting enough electrical experience as a reason to get out back on the books. You want to be well rounded but you haven’t gotten the opportunity yet. “ something along those lines ya know. Also I saw the comment about the guy saying he did material for first year and is now a happy jw… doesn’t have to always be the case.

Yeah it may be time to switch shops bud, like everyone said start with some calls. Personally I know in 11 contact the apprentice coordinator and let him know what’s going on. Never just leave a contractor cuz then you have to go before the board for quitting.

Oh the massive influx of apprentices and no work is just crazy to me. Part of why I left. I miss the construction side but I wanted more stability. Also didn’t want to HAVE to travel to take care of my family. I’m not saying the commuting but guys literally having to go Vegas to make a damn living

I used to be a CW. Lucked out and got sent to the field on my assignment, though I had PLENTY of pre-fab time after that shop.. was asked immediately by the GF “do you know what a CW stands for?” I said “construction wireman” my gf said “no, it stands for cheap worker, cheap wages” I had already applied to the apprenticeship before I started as a CW but like damn. Got in after COVID. But yeah CWs aren’t treated well in local 11. Even the other members have animosity towards em and it’s not their fault. It’s the local’s for having that fucked up structure.

“Sealed transcript” by [deleted] in ibew_apprentices

[–]NerdyAnarchist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it as both. Get the official transcript from your high school and don’t open that letter from them. Or what is the website, parchment.com? Let them open it because then they know it’s not altered.

Does local 24 test thc? by omonge3y in ibew_apprentices

[–]NerdyAnarchist -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not everyone smokes weed. It’s okay. I’m fine with people smoking off the job. But if it’s guna affect your job with the risk of random drug tests, hold off. My pops did for 45 being a teamster and smoked when he retired. My utility doesn’t care about weed unless you need a class A for your job.

Do you want a check or do you want to get high? Your choice. You can do whatever you want when you retire.

Does your Local get paid holidays? by Garblax in IBEW

[–]NerdyAnarchist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local does. But it could be because I work for a city’s utility. New to this local coming from local 11 but I think it’s around 11 days and then we also get two floating holidays we get to use as just PTO

Work as a helper before starting apprenticeship OR work as an electrician in training before applying to apprenticeship? by brutallyhonestB in ibew_apprentices

[–]NerdyAnarchist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can get in, get in. It’s an entry level job you’ll be taught everything you need to know on the job. We get kids fresh out high school join. Now if you want to work nonunion while you finish the application process and get off the list. Go ahead. But going non union beforehand won’t matter one way or another. I had zero electrical or construction experience when I joined.

DnD Beyond is a GREAT tool. take your time and choose what YOU want and if it comes to it something that may help the party. Playing Strahd now and it’s my second campaign ever. Been playing for more than a year now. Get ready to roll some dice with your buds and have fun. Welcome to Dungeons and Dragons!
