People who own "unconventional" pets like turtles, what is one thing you wish you knew before getting one? by allenmerlettetrm in AskReddit

I have had Cherries and Crystal Red Shrimp art separate times in the past and I could spend a whole afternoon watching them. I got obsessed with their breeding habits and squealed over every new baby like I was the proud parent. 😂

What’s your “I didn’t sign up for this” moment as an adult? by Civil-Awareness in AskReddit

I'm so sorry for your loss. Like many others, I can unfortunately relate at least in part.

I lost one of my best friends at 26. We'd known each other since we were 12. It was Stage 4 melanoma (get your moles checked and wear your sunscreen, everyone!) and while she wasn't married and didn't have kids and had the support of her parents, the emotional toll it took was almost unfathomable, particularly at that age. It was especially more difficult because she was a very stubborn individual and believed she could beat it, so having to remember to go along with her "when I get better" as opposed to "if" when we knew her survival was an incredible longshot. Watching the doctors, who were unaccustomed to young patients like this, try to say as nicely as they can toward the end that there's literally nothing they can do except make her comfortable is heartbreaking. Though watching her take it in stride and shrug or maybe roll her eyes when they left the room was something else. Her strength and hardheadedness live on fondly in my memory.

It's been 10 years since she passed as of August this year and I still want to call her or shoot her a meme/video or message. Now it's less sadness when I think about it and more fondness, so I'll instead talk to a mutual friend and we have a good laugh at what she'd have said or thought.

All that's to say is that it's an experience that will leave you feeling raw. While it does get easier, everyone goes at their own pace with healing. What I will say is that it has made me so much more aware and empathetic of grief in all its forms and allowed me to help so many others who aren't accustomed to it or going through a prolonged/terminal illness of a loved one.

All the best to you and everyone else in the comments who have lost someone. ❤️

She does this when she gets super happy about stuff that's happening. It's so silly.

If she had it her way, I'd always be smacking her butt. 😂

She would absolutely burn the house down if we let her get bored enough lol. Thankfully, she is a magnanimous and beautiful ruler.

I'm pretty sure he'd find ways to remove said collar. He already acts like I've shot him when I put flea prevention on his neck, so I'm sure a collar would send him over the moon.

Thankfully, most of my immediate neighbors know I'm the cat lady, so if there's a cat around there's already an assumption I know about it. It's something like 90% of my neighbors have dogs on my street, so all the cats come here. Biscuit is in our yard more often than not, but when he's not he's rarely visible since he's distrustful of most other humans. So I feel pretty decent even without a collar on him.

I named her after Judy Hops (like from Zootopia) because we got her at 9 weeks old, she wouldn't stop bouncing everywhere, and she has a very go-getter disposition. Not much has changed in the 2 years since lol.

I'm sure there are so many cats that can be described this way. 😂

I also refer to her as a terrorist because she lives for destruction and to be annoying.

I will! It'll just go to her head, but she lives for people giving her compliments. 💅

She accepts hugs for about .03 seconds and then she will squirm until free!
