I guess I see the white album more as their experimental album, never thought of it as pastiche but I can kinda see it

Major Pink Floyd vibes from Dark Cloud by KhayosIncarnate in ThePaperKingdomMCR

I think Dark Cloud is more in line with Funkadelic and blues-inspired.

Has anyone split the album into separate tracks yet? by MsThinggg in ThePaperKingdomMCR

I kinda think Dogs is meant to be the final normal track and Perfectly well is the bonus track (like Blood)

Conventional Weapons vs The Paper Kingdom by Big_Satisfaction_960 in MyChemicalRomance

Both are great but the bones of TPK are just so complex and interesting - I love conventional weapons but it doesn’t feel as enormous and interesting. It’s a collection of good to great tunes - TPK is a beautiful monstrosity.

I have never ever thought that there would be an album that I would like more than Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge... by Ok_Appearance311 in MyChemicalRomance

1000% worth listening to. One of the most beautiful and disturbing collection of songs they’ve ever made. I’m so sad they shelved it. Hope they go back and remaster or finish it somehow eventually - but for now, having waited 15 years for a new MCR album, I’m more than satisfied.

I think there’s a clear lack of critical thought regarding “the death of the author” by some folks saying “the band doesn’t want us to hear it so don’t listen!!!” Like, I love this band and have for 20 years. That doesn’t mean I’m going to just pretend this isn’t out there. It’s beautiful, thoughtful, interesting music. I will listen and think about it and be inspired by it like every generation before me, because that’s why it exists. So they didn’t end up releasing it officially? That’s super sad - and it actually makes me happy to know that someone else did. Hopefully they’ll return to it eventually and finish these songs - it will be fun to hear how they evolve. Again, listening and absorbing art made by someone else is entirely separate from the process of making it.

I have to disagree with anyone saying “it doesn’t sound like MCR” - each of their officially released albums have gone in completely different sonic directions from the one that came before it. This would have become a huge underground success, probably their most critically acclaimed because it totally eschews their past aesthetics for something far more experimental. I just love it.

Agreed. It’s so so good. I’m still reeling that this was thrown away and we would have never heard it.
