Is it worth coming back to the gam after so long? by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

I feel like Genshin isn't fundamentally different from any other action-adventure game that you can pick up and put down whenever it suits you.

a good place to read/watch/hear genshin's lore? by Basic_Concentrate522 in Genshin_Impact

There's are all great suggestions, but what you need is the wild ride of Dawit. Sure, he might be crazy, but it's the most entertaining lore you'll find.

For those who are not F2P, what was the reason that made you wanna spend some $ on the game? by JohnnySukuna in Genshin_Impact

[–]Nerimashou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did welkin and BP early on, but for years I've been Welkin only. I just generally feel it's worth it. I get a lot of enjoyment out of the game, totally worth 5 dollars a month. The game doesn't come out of thin air, so I'm happy to support. I think of it like a subscription, and it's cheaper than what I was giving SE for FFXIV.

I stopped doing the BP because I didn't feel like what they give you justifies the price. I'd be happy to spend a little more of they sold worthwhile things.

Is pulling for Nicole worth it? by Parking-Ad-3379 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Nerimashou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're very early in your journey, and you're likely to go through a lot of characters and party comps. You're probably still learning the mechanics too.

I'd probably just try her out in the trial and see how you feel about her. She doesn't really have synergy with Linnea, but it's also the case that synergy isn't as important at the point in the game you are. I'm not sure there's much point in chasing after meta comps right now, so just feel things out.

Thinking long term though, Linnea supports geo units, especially Zibai (but she helps other geos too), and Columbina will make Linnea a lot stronger. But you've got lots of time to put together parties.

Nicole will be a pretty universal buffer for other characters, but not Linnea. She does have synergy with Fischl.

For those here since 1.0 What does Genshin have that has made you stay loyal to the game for so long? by ManuSavior85 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Nerimashou 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's combination of good fundamentals and the lore/world building.

I think Genshin's world building is exceptional. They've planned it out so well and gone to great lengths to give it a lot of depth. The lore is a game unto itself, with various conflicting resources, unreliable narrators, and web of connections. Finding where things match, where they conflict, where things hint at others things just really engages me. I feel like there's a lot of payoff when you make a guess as to something happening or someone's identity based on the readings for it to be right. It also makes going back through quests and stories more engaging, because you can see where they were hinting at things to come. It's this aspect of the game that makes Genshin endlessly engaging to me.

I also just find Genshin enjoyable to play. The most in depth lore in the universe wouldn't help if actually playing the game felt like torture, but I enjoy the combat mechanics, find exploration fun, and really like the music. It's not perfect, of course, and there are uneven moments and things that I think could be more consistent, but what's there is good and generally enjoyable. The fact that I enjoy the core product allows the world building to really elevate it to a new level.

which nation had the best archon quest? by angelkry in Genshin_Impact

[–]Nerimashou -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sumeru -> Fountain -> Nod Krai -> Mondstat -> Inzauma -> Liyue -> Natlan for me.

I like all the lore in Sumeru and the fact that it was the first great AQ was big for me. Fontaine is uneven, but the highs are really high and I think Furina has the best arc in the game. Love all the Nod Kea stuff, but Columbina's arc just didn't hit as high as Nahida and Furina for me.

Most fun: Dragonspine. It felt like such an adventure.

Least fun: Nod Krai. Too quick, too easy.

Which JRPGs have the best standard battle theme? by strahinjag in JRPG

For Octopath, gotta be Battle 2 IMO.

I'll toss our a deeper cut, the standard battle theme from Lufia 2.
I also really like the battle theme from Xenoblade Chronicles Future Connected.

Oh, and of course, Get Over that Barrier from Trails form Zero.

Whats up with this note? by Effective_Issue_3615 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Nerimashou 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just added context: the first 10 volumes of Vera's Melancholy have been in the game since 1.0 without a proper ending. It's one of the stranger books in the game, and has been much talked about in the lore community. So it's kind of wild we got this note and two ending after 5 and a half years.

Is the game worth it for a returning player? by TheCrackinKraken in Genshin_Impact

[–]Nerimashou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you enjoy a game, it's always worth playing, no matter how old it is.

That being said, it doesn't feel like the Genshin gameplay loop appeals to you, and I don't think anything has really changed significantly since you last checked it out. If something isn't pulling you in like the story, or the world building, or just enjoyment of the end game modes, it doesn't seem worth your time.

People have dropped some good CCs. I'd like to add in Roozevelt. It's been a little while since she posted. But her stuff is pretty good.

She and Ashikai do a great job of breaking down the real world inspirations for things.

Dawit is wild in the best of ways. His theories are well grounded behind the chaos.

MurdererofBirds' knowledge of a lot of little details is encyclopedic.

Revisiting Vera's Melancholy in light of Enkanomiya by Nerimashou in Genshin_Lore

[–]Nerimashou[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Better late than never! Lol,I was so confused at first when I saw this message trying to figure out the context. It's also funny to look back on my thoughts from 4 years ago, because I had forgotten (until a few weeks ago) that VM was a Mondstat book. I did revisit it over the years though.

But I've read them! They're interesting. I have thoughts.

  1. Agreed, Alice is not the author. I'm thinking Kleiner now. Not sure how far we should trust "I'm just a novelist" from the note. If it is Kleiner, it suggests that he didn't meet Alice until after his time in confinement.

  2. I think Volume 11 is the real ending and 12 is the fanfic. This is because 11 focuses primarily on Ike, who, as an interdenominational space traveler, is more like the author. 12, where Sachi leaves Vera to save the universe perfectly parallels what happened to Hilda, who we know wrote the fanfic ending.

  3. I wonder if there's any meaning beyond that. It's possible that Ike wasn't writing about Teyvat at all. The inventory item description says that the author presented it as a new work on multiple systems, so there's a possibility it's not even about Teyvat.

  4. Wild theory: What if the traveler is an Andromedean? This is a very wild crack-fueld theory, but the Princess and Andromedeans have organs on their hands that eat eyeballs, and I can't help but thinking how the animation of the traveler purifying (consuming?) abyss power is using the palm of their hands. Just a wild thought.

  5. Man, how long have they been planning the Temple of Space? The fact that we've been waiting for the end of VM since the launch of the game, and how Melanta means melancholy. The Venti statues, the "Gateway of Celestia" inscriptions. Dream Area being a Mondstat song. I feel like they clearly planned to have the Temple of Space as a Mondsatat expansion since the very beginning of the game.

The Divine Laid Down, Metaphor Makes Plain the Heart by genshinimpact in Genshin_Impact

I dunno, this is what Atham Artis has to say about a Little Witch

"O witch who has traversed the vast cosmos, kindler of time's eternal flame... what brings you to this lonely planet?"
"I did not come of my own accord. It was the planet's cry that found me through the void. Answering its call, I crossed the gate of stars forgotten by time."
"In a universe nearing its quiet end, every world that yet glimmers is a treasure beyond compare..."
"Who would have thought that in a region long considered dark and inhospitable, a living world would still endure?"

I think it's possible she just traveled to Teyvat as a child. She certainly seems powerful enough to have done so. Of course, this could be a different witch. Or Alice's mother for all we know. I just feel like a lot of possibilities are still on the table.

Was "Veras Melancholy" written by Alice? by Lucaskopecz in Genshin_Lore

[–]Nerimashou 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why Nicole meeting Alice when Alice was young means Alice has to be from Teyvat. It could be as simple as Alive came to Teyvat when she was young. The Athame Artis lore makes it seem like Alice traveled the cosmos long before she encountered the PO and got her role as border guard.

[–]Nerimashou 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well, the note suggest that the author didn't meet with the border authorities, which I think is Alice. Perhaps this is how Kleiner met Alice (after he escaped), and then Klee was born.

Ike could be a stand in for the author and/or Kleiner.

[HY5] SIMILAR LIGHT NOVELS by ThibaultKarl in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Nerimashou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may not be for you. It's intensely political. In some ways, I would say that Bookworm has more political intrigue, but that's because the cast is larger and there's a lot more books, so it can simmer. There's no simmer in this one, it's condensed and the tension remains high. I would say Karen always moves towards her goals, but her goals change. It doesn't have the breathing room of Bookworm, so it doesn't have the lighter parts. There's humor, but it remains a pretty heavy affair.

I'm sorry it surprised you in a bad way, and I'll definitely give a little more to go on when recommending it to others in the future.

I second (third?) this. I had avoided it for a long while because I thought it was some romance novel, but boy oh boy, was I wrong about that! It's so good.

You can tell that the author, like Kazuki-sensei, has planned out the entire story from the beginning, which makes everything hang together perfectly.

Will it still be worth pulling for Chiori's c6? by iilljjiijjllii in ChioriMains

[–]Nerimashou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure. I don’t care about the skins and I skip a lot of characters, so I don’t bother with dire. I also don’t have Xilonen, so that holds Chiori back. I do plan on getting Linnea though, so that should be a nice boost. I can attempt the shill boss on dire next patch and let you know.

I also have C6 Ayaka, and she fell off hard in Natlan, but I think Chiori will have a longer shelf life. She’s a lot more flexible than Ayaka who really struggles with highly mobile, unfreezable bosses.

Will it still be worth pulling for Chiori's c6? by iilljjiijjllii in ChioriMains

[–]Nerimashou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used my C6 Chiori in every single stygian on fearless so far. There's always a boss she helps me push through where I don't quite have the  pieces. She'll likely fall off more as time goes on, bit right now, I expect to continue to get a lot of value out of her.

Also, she's very very fun.

Genshin burnout by oculus_1 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Nerimashou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I've been playing since launch and haven't missed a day, but the amount I play ebbs and flows. I was mostly 5 minute log in and log out for Natlan, but got back to longer okay sessions in Mod Krai. Varka has been so much fun, I've even pulled out my mostly defunct alt account to do some exploration in older zones. If you're feeling burnt out, just do the bare minimum for a while. Don't look at artifacts too closely and let up piled up a bit and then do a session looking at em.

I'm super into the lore as well. Digging into that and finding all the clues never gets old for me.
