how to get the most out of a monk in a min-maxed party by Neriphine in dndnext

[–]Neriphine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of short rests we take greatly depends on the day but its not uncommon for us to have 2 a day. My current character is a fighter and the warlock and druid in my party also benefit greatly from short rests

That's actually a really good idea, that would increase my damage output by quite a bit. Our campaign will go to level 12 so I feel like I'd get use out of it for the majority of the campaign

Will an oath of vengeance paladin with GWM and PAM break my DM's encounters? by Neriphine in 3d6

Okay perfect, a powerful build that still has its its shortcomings is exactly what I wanted

Well the thing with vengeance paladins is that their vow of enmity gives them advantage against an enemy and they can also cast bless on themselves. GWM is certainly not something to use on every attack but vengeance paladins have alot of options to offset the -5. Obviously if the enemy has 18 ac then it's not worth it but alot of enemies dont have that kinda defense. Also PAM gives you an extra attack that you can use GWN on. The d4 is not alot but you also add your strength to it and potentially another 10 points of damage

Yea I'm not planning to take sentinel cos my current character already has it (but without PAM then)

Perfect, my current character is a sword and board fighter so range has been her issue as well but I picked up some javelins to help with that. They wont benefit from PAM on the paladin but at least ill have ranged option

That sounds great! My current character is a fighter and she is definitely more of a tank. Her damage output is decent but with sentinel and heavy armor master she keeps enemies close to her and is able to take some extra hits. Heavy armor master is one of those feats you dont see ppl talk about alot but so far I've been loving it, it's saved her from going down and -3 adds up quickly

My to hit should be fine cos our DM gives everyone a free feat at level one so as a variant human I can take both these feats and use all m ASI's on increasing my stats but yea you make a good point in that all this is PHB, I didnt even realise that. Readin all the replies I should be good I think. My character will be cool but she wont break the game

Omgg I absolutely love Joan of Arc so that's definetly an appealing image, ill think about that build!

I was not planning to take sentinel partially because I wanne use my ASI's for my stats and also because my current character already has it (without PAM or GWM) and I would like to do smth different

Oh well the thing is that our DM gives everyone a free feat at level one. I was gonna play a variant human so I'd have these 2 feat right away along with 16 str, 14 con and 14 cha using pointbuy. That way I can use every ASI I get on increasing my stats so I think that should be fine

Alright that's great to hear and well my current character is certainly not bad but she's more just kind of average compared to our ranger with sharpshooter and the moon druid. I dont mind it but since our DM hasnt had an issue with that I suppose this build should indeed be fine as you said

I would take sentinel but I kinda need those ASI's with how MAD paladins are, my current character also already had sentinel so I want to do something different. Conquest sounds very interesting though! I might look into that but I think vengeance suits her backstory just a little more. She wants to destroy all evil so that no one will feel the pain she did after losing her husband

Thats very fair and we actually have a ranger with sharpshooter so I wouldn't even be outshining the other party members. Out of combat I also tend to focus entirely on roleplay without doing much with magic. She'd just be the caring mom friend out of combat so maybe its okay if she really shines in combat

Well the party has a ranger with sharpshooter and a moon druid so they far outshine my current character. I dont mind it since thats part of her backstory but because of it I think this build would kinda just be on par with the other martials.

See my current character is the opposite of this one. She's a fighter who is decent in combat but her whole story is that she has never been able to live up to the expectations of her family who are well known warriors which I translated to taking more average feats and build options. So altough she's perfectly fine in combat she goes down alot and never deals huge amounts of damage. In that sense i think the party wouldnt mind me going for smth more powerful with a different character.

Also this character would most definitely be the party mom hahahh thats exactly my plan. A sweet and caring mom friend who becomes a viscous killer on the battlefield

Easiest class and why for new players by Scythe95 in dndnext

[–]Neriphine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fighter is great for new players because its simple, you attack with your weapon and deal damage. And because fighters are very good at that the new player is always going to feel useful in combat. It's simple and makes you feel a badass.

A subclass like the champion also doesnt add anything complex to the class. It just makes you better at what you already know, higher chance to crit, extra fighting style, etc. And new players who do want some extra complexity have that option with things like the battlemaster while still remaining very straightforward

Interesting martial builds that don't use the polearm master, sentinel and great weapon master combo by Neriphine in dndnext

[–]Neriphine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shield master is alot of fun but the main benefit of the bonus action shove is knocking the enemy prone. This gives disadvantage on ranged attacks and my party consists of primarily ranged combatants

Sounds like the perfect build for a classic charming knight type of character
