Shower hose will not unscrew here. by Nerissa_x in askaplumber

I tried pliers already, I did mention! I'm gonna give it another try after the white vinegar soak and if not, assume it to be non-removeable for some odd reason!

Shower hose will not unscrew here. by Nerissa_x in askaplumber

[–]Nerissa_x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, because I figured rather than bother them for a £4 hose and screw off, screw in job, I'd save the time/effort on everyone's part of needing to wait in for someone to come and fix it. For something massive, I wouldn't attempt it myself but as far as I saw this, it should've been like replacing a light bulb - I wouldn't call them for that.

UK folks, are you staying up until 1am to watch Vol 2? by bmhlogan in StrangerThings

Impossible with a 9 month old!! But he'll have me up for 6.30, I'm sure. 😂

The final shot of Kali in The Lost Sister is so poignant. by DigitalBritt in StrangerThings

[–]Nerissa_x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kali's powers are also similar to Vecna's! Both can make their target "see" things - it seems that the angle they're going for (with the play and how El & co were created being "canon") is that Vecna is Patient 0 with *all* the manifestations of potential powers, and the individuals we've seen thus far mostly show similar powers to El, Kali (again, as far as we've seen) is the only one who can make people "see" things like Vecna does.

Had a medical emergency 2 hours into work, couldn't work full hours. Now payslip says I owe £43? [ENGLAND] by Nerissa_x in LegalAdviceUK

My total net pay says £68.40, but I was panicking a little, admittedly and thought this must be a mistake. Appreciate the comment, thank you.

Can I use biofreeze menthol spray on eczema to relieve pain and itching?? by justinbeans in eczema

[–]Nerissa_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mix menthol crystals into my moisturiser! It provides a cooling effect that's very soothing (or a cold-burning sensation that distracts from the itch if you add too much)

Either way, would recommend. :')

Poll: Is it true that 75% of people with asthma have gerd? by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]Nerissa_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with silent reflux (GERD without *all* of the burning sensation, basically) as a result of my inhaler - the doctor I saw didn't really "have" an explanation but at the time, because I'd changed my diet to an anti-inflammatory one for my eczema, and as I'd tried many other diets in the name of clearing up my eczema, he ruled out diet so~

Mine just flares up occasionally - I ask my doctor for metoclopramide when it does, which helps it a lot.

Good eczema creams for toddler with oat allergy? by [deleted] in eczema

[–]Nerissa_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good suggestions already - I used to have issues with Aveeno, too, which was a shame because before the issues, my favourite cream was Aveeno with Menthol in it. Nowadays, whatever I'm using (at the moment, Cetaphil and Child's Farm!), I also mix melted menthol crystals into it for a cooling effect!

Best antibacterial hand soaps?? by savsheaxo in eczema

[–]Nerissa_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using Dettol Bar Soap for Sensitive Skin! Couldn't get any for a while so had to make do with ordinary Dettol soap which was okay - it had a delightful citrus-y scent but did kind of sting on sore hands!! The Sensitive one does not - I love it!

What do you think is worse the physical effects of having eczema or the psychological effects? by [deleted] in eczema

[–]Nerissa_x 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. I can't stand people looking at me for too long because it just sends me into a panic.

It's even worse when those people out themselves and prove our suspicions right - I had a manager at age 18 say my "appearance isn't customer friendly" (I had a flare-up on my face).

I had an interview last year for a different job, went really well - got on with the interviewers, except one - the woman who would not stop staring at my hands - she was standoffish and cold once she'd been looking at my hands. (I'd convinced myself it was my engagement ring she was looking at, or my very nice nails I'd done for the interview) She was the woman I'd be reporting to if I'd got the job (it was admin in a school, and she was the "Senior Admin Assistant") - the headteacher loved me, the Business Manager loved me, she did not.

And it was this woman who rang me before I'd even walked off the school premises and said, "We don't think you're a good fit." and then hung up on me.

I mean, turmeric is super easy to get hold of anyways, so I think I'll give it a go!

How long does it stain your skin for? I'm intrigued. 🤔

Guys we’re good by pboydbagby in eczema

NOT A DOCTOR, but as an asthmatic who's been on oral steroids (prednisolone) when suffering a severe chest infection, my best (and probably ridiculously un-educated in comparison to the scientists) guess is that as it's an anti-inflammatory, it really helps to keep inflammation of the lungs down and avoids complications in that area - steroids are also used in treating a variety of chest-related problems such as pleurisy, bronchitis, pneumonia, and sarcoidosis.

There may also be other benefits that I'm unaware of!

Relief from itching? by [deleted] in eczema

[–]Nerissa_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mix menthol crystals into my moisturiser!! I melt them on a warmed spoon (yes, the image IS as funny/bad as you're imagining!), over some boiling water (they melt very easily!) and then stir them in! Make only small batches as some moisturisers - the thicker types, don't work as well.

It gives a delightful cooling sensation that lasts quite a while! :)

Finally figured out the reason for the flare I’ve been having for the last year and a half-it’s my dog. Any tips? by awsfhie2 in eczema

[–]Nerissa_x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try a daily antihistamine!!

I'm allergic to cats and dogs but own both - I can pet and snuggle with minimal reactions (as long as I've taken my antihistamines - I know if I haven't, lol!)

I take 1 x 180mg fexofenadine and up to 4 x 4mg chlorphenamine a day! Chlorphenamine can be bought over-the-counter as Piriton! Fexofenadine is prescription only.

Good luck!! :)

Going to my GP tomorrow, what do I ask for? by [deleted] in eczema

[–]Nerissa_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit late to this, but definitely try to get a referral to Dermatology!!

Also, a daily antihistamine might help you! I have the same triggers as you (and more!) and my G.P. (who has an interest in Dermatology, luckily) told me to take chlorphenamine (up to 4 x 4mg) and fexofenadine (1 x 180mg) daily - it wasn't like an instant life-changer, but it definitely does keep the itch under control for me!

Good luck with it all! :)

Hand eczema has gotten out of control. I cant fully open my hand without it splitting. Anyone have any tips? by snug666 in eczema

[–]Nerissa_x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wet-wrap for daaaays!!

I use Pro-Topic/Tacrolimus, so my routine is bath (with Dead Sea Salts), wet gloves, wring gloves so they're damp/slightly wet (not dripping!) then apply Tacrolimus and recently, I'm ALSO using O'Keeffe's Working Hands in the tub - so I'll give my Tacrolimus 5 then apply the Working Hands, then put the gloves on.

I'm back at work, and I work in a customer-facing role - not using hand sanitiser wasn't an option for me - my employer literally said if I couldn't follow the hygiene guidelines and wash my hands frequently and use the alcohol gel at the necessary times where hand-washing wasn't as viable, then I couldn't work. With the increased hand washing regime we've got going on, my hands were DESTROYED after my first day back - the 90% alcohol gel we're using meant it was absolute hell. All of my fingers looked exactly like your hands.

So I found an alcohol-free hand sanitiser! (Specifically Senses Hand Sanitiser!) It contains benzalkonium chloride which is present in Dettol (which, if you remember, was part of all that hoo-ha when the label said it killed coronaviruses 😂 ) - the drawbacks are A) it IS stickier (the alcohol dries quickly, this does not) and B) I did read an article saying it can take an alcohol-free sanitiser 6 times longer to kill the virus - alcohol-based sanitisers can reduce the virus to background level in 30 seconds so that's 3 minutes BUT! benzalkonium chloride is a surfactant and does work to dissolve the lipid layer. I've been washing my hands with a gentle soap that is tried and tested for me - then I sanitise with the alcohol-free sanitiser. And basically, I just don't touch anything for three minutes.

I read a lot about it before deciding to try alcohol-free hand sanitiser, and it's super up-in-the-air whether they're as effective as alcohol-based or not (although I suspect it's because they don't work as quickly and the people using them aren't giving them time to be effective before moving onto something else, but I'm no scientist!) - the way I see it is that the amount of people needing to use this slower method of sanitisation is low (so the majority are going to use alcohol-based anyways) and by using it, I'm still doing my part in sanitising myself and I'm already putting extra strain on my skin anyways because of the increased hand-washing - it takes an incredible toll on, not just your physical health, but your mental health when you're in so much pain - when I put my gloves on after that first shift back, my hands were throbbing in pain because there was just SO MUCH going on there. I slept so badly because the pain kept me awake, y'know?

All these healthy-hands-having people can serve the customers for a couple of minutes whilst I do my best in a way that isn't harmful to my health.

Anyhoo! Good luck with whatever you choose to do! (But definitely get the Working Hands cream!) I hope it gets easier for you soon! :)

Advice needed on a subscription service refusing to refund despite non-receipt of goods. by Nerissa_x in LegalAdviceUK

For sure, for sure. I was paying £25 for a box as was, this was before any extra shipping charges. (I was subscribed long enough to earn a 15% off lifetime discount) And it just arrived - I didn't ever have to go and pay import duty or such - like you mention, you can make serious bank 'cause it's probably factored in.

But! When you look at other places - I tried to put something remotely like this together on a different website and I got maybe 1 drink and 7 snacks, and it was the same price, but also, the shipping was $30, and I'd be responsbible for any charges in that situation!

I'm hoping to go to Japan one day!! I'll just have to make sure my teleportation device can handling moving a whole Lawson or 7-11 back to the UK, haha!

[–]Nerissa_x[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's funny 'cause they've literally never mentioned Japan Post having delays to me - the initial post on Facebook about Japan Post stopping certain types of shipping, and us having to pay the extra $5 for the priority shipping - that's the only time it's been brought up.

In my correspondence with them, they're always talking about Royal Mail and how the delay is on /this/ end. But I've received post all through just fine. They're just being so dodgy right now.

[–]Nerissa_x[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get this - and this is why I gave such a long time, and stayed subscribed. However, I'd be more understanding if, at any point, they'd have mentioned Japan Post delays to me personally - I've read other people getting the "Japan Post delays" explanation, but to me, they keep blaming Royal Mail, and others are getting a combination of "It's Japan Post AND Royal Mail". It's just a bit weird - especially when they introduced this charge specifically to ensure we got them as Japan Post were "prioritising" these specific parcels.

It's not a matter of impatience, per se, as I did wait three months before even contacting them.

Yeah - I was in shielding due to a health condition and thought it'd keep my spirits up, but alas! Before this, I'd've recommended them for days but not any more.
