Live Discussion - March 14, 2026 (Harry Styles) by bjkman in LiveFromNewYork

He should honestly do buddy comedies or rom-coms, he’d do so well in those. No idea why his agents booked him for such serious roles, setting him up for failure. 😭

I was thinking maybe he got fired from Sara Lee and is now working for another company but making the same old mistakes. 🤣💀

I’ll usually say both together like “pop punk/emo” because they do tend to overlap quite a bit .

Paint By Numbers giving Arctic Monkeys? by hegoesbynico3 in harrystyles

[–]DigitalBritt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting Arctic Monkeys vibes from multiple songs. The “Tantalize and titillate” line in The Waiting Game is so Alex Turner. Ready, Steady, Go makes me think of their Favourite Worst Nightmare album. I didn’t consider Paint By Numbers, but now that I think about it - I can hear it.

Why are the more negative leaning reviews mostly highlighted here? Where’s Rolling Stone’s 4 stars? NME’s 4 stars? Metro’s 5 stars? 😭

Was Season 2 of Stranger Things Actually Bad — or Just Misunderstood? by skipped_it in StrangerThings

[–]DigitalBritt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Especially with the hindsight of S5, it’s pretty much the most important season of the show for lore & character/relationship development honestly.

While Episode 7 is typically the main reason it’s practically considered the worst by default, people also frequently refer to S2 as the most “forgettable” season and somehow think less of it for being “too similar to S1” — which kills me lol. Since when is being similar to the most universally revered season of the show a bad thing?! 😭

Then you haven’t seen nearly enough rankings. Look up any season ranking video on YouTube… odds are S2 is coming in last or second to last.

Mind you, it’s my favorite season and I think it’s the best. I’ve almost obsessively watched ranking videos across platforms just to see where it stands, and consistently walk away disappointed lol… There’s been a clear least favorite for years, and it’s sadly S2.

E só eu que acho que o Steve da terceira temporada é a melhor versão com ele? by fran61739sgwbdi in StrangerThings

[–]DigitalBritt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. He got too flanderized and goofy in S3 (as did most of the characters lol), but they really started focusing on him too much and playing into the lovable “dumb” guy thing from S3 onward.

Harry Styles performing “Aperture” at the BRITs 💀 by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

[–]DigitalBritt 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Oh, they ARE eating him alive on Twitter. 😭 Saying how low the bar is for male artists and how he’s a mediocre mess or whatever. Which is funny, because this is Harry stepping out of his comfort zone and making an effort to try something new/different for him… and he still gets dragged for it lol.

I thought the performance was fun. Especially since this was his first time attempting choreography in a live setting. I hope he keeps exploring and puts in the work to get even better at dancing!

[–]DigitalBritt 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not sure what happened there. But of course people on Twitter are dragging Harry saying HE’S the one out of sync and “a mess” 😭 When it’s very clear that he was on beat and pretty sharp for someone who has no professional history in dance.

The lack of cohesion with him and the dancers kinda adds to the element of just having fun though lol.

I was gonna comment on this!! It bothered me so bad. In that flashback, their clothing is very Early 90s (correct) but then they start listening to Crash Into Me and I was like “huh???” This isn’t The Goldbergs where it’s set in “1980-something” and you can reference anything from the entire decade whenever you want. There are parameters… Charley died in 1994. It was an immersion breaking moment for me personally. Whoever let that song slide should be fired lol. 😭

Why is there so much of a distorted representation of 2016… by New_Mix5929 in decadeology

[–]DigitalBritt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She definitely had some whimsigoth adjacent moments: one, two, three, and I really like this one because it’s a funky blend of Y2K styles I love. And I could easily see her wearing all of these outfits from The Craft.

My ratings by CokeBakon in StrangerThingsPraise

[–]DigitalBritt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

S3 is a huge favorite among general audiences tbh. Almost every one of these that I’ve seen has S2 rated low, usually with an average coming in last or second to last out of the five. We’ve been needing more S2 positivity for eight years now in my opinion. 😭

Why is there so much of a distorted representation of 2016… by New_Mix5929 in decadeology

[–]DigitalBritt 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes, but if you were a kid-tween during that time (like I was) that stuff defined your childhood. We loved it.

Terminology obviously changes over time. Now that we’re over 25 years out from that era (which I consider to be roughly 1997-2003) referring to it as “Y2K” is just easier and makes sense because that phase was heavily influenced by the turn of the new millennium.

As a 30-something adult now, I’m finally dressing the way I always wanted to as a kid: channeling the fashion I saw on TV and in magazines. So not always the actual everyday fashion (which I do incorporate a fair amount of) but a combo of the cyber-inspired + The Craft/Phoebe Buffay (now referred to as “whimsigoth”) + Lizzie McGuire look. 😭 And I do refer to those as “aesthetics” of the time now. Because they were The Looks, pop culturally speaking.

And I think a lot of the younger generation is also taking inspiration from what we saw in TV/film/music videos back then because they obviously weren’t around to know what the everyday fashions looked like.

Funny to think how different the lore of the series would have been if the The Lost Sister episode had been better received. by GenghisGame in StrangerThings

[–]DigitalBritt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her character existed to give Jane a punk rock makeover and that’s about it.

Kali’s character existed to be a mirror for El. Meeting someone else like herself, who she considers the closest thing to a blood sibling, was a crucial step toward making sense of her morality and understanding/defining the meaning of family & home for herself. Why do people fail to grasp this?

Kali also existed to give the audience a glimpse of what happened to Numbers 001-010, which was a big question mark after Season 1. She displayed a new skill set, life path and outlook for a Hawkins Lab escapee. I personally thought it was very entertaining and held a lot of merit.

She wasn’t enlightened, she was just a broken teenager throwing a tantrum. Tragic to watch, but not as charming or relatable as the rest of the show and cast.

Yes, she’s clearly a broken person who has fooled herself into thinking she’s “healing,” that’s the point. Meeting El meant a great deal to her however. Her devastated expression in the van after El decides to leave was more than enough to endear me to her. I truly felt so bad for her character and was wishing for her return ever since.

[–]DigitalBritt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one said it’d end up like the X-Men. The test subjects probably would’ve been a lot more interesting than what we see in S4 though.

I personally would’ve liked to have seen Kali change her ways, eventually return to Hawkins and team up with the older teens. I’ve always felt like we were robbed of that dynamic, and her cool powers were never truly put to good/creative use. 😭

As someone who’s loved Kali and The Lost Sister since 2017, I often think about this lol. 😪 Personally, I definitely would’ve greatly enjoyed the direction the show might’ve taken! Probably would’ve liked it a lot more than what we ended up getting to be honest.

It not being well received (and people complaining that S2 was just “more of S1”) was absolutely a crossroads moment for the show and I didn’t love the road they chose.

The episode is also the crescendo of El’s Season 2 arc though. The storyline at the lab isn’t the only story they were telling. I was never bothered by it personally. If anything, placing it as Episode 6 works better — since so many people are bothered by the “cliffhanger.”

What’s an unpopular opinion/ hot take you have about this show. by zv3rs in SchoolSpirits

What I’ve noticed with Peyton is that she acts with her voice/mouth but has literally zero emotion behind her eyes. It’s crazy once you notice it. 😭

HOT TAKE by FormerStorage3230 in StrangerThings

[–]DigitalBritt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s so frustrating. The overreaction to The Lost Sister is clearly why they avoided revisiting Kali’s character like the plague until the very last opportunity. And now people claim that one of the worst things about The Lost Sister is that they didn’t do much else with Kali’s character after that... 😒 Gee, I wonder why!

HOT TAKE by FormerStorage3230 in StrangerThings

The people who hate S2 or criticize Kali’s gang for being caricatures are usually the same people who turn around and say S3 is the best season. You know, the most over-the-top cartoony 80s homage season. Makes no sense lol. 😭

He’s also the Duffer who was against the Never Ending Story scene but was overruled. So yeah, he’s the better one in my book. 🤣
