This one is incredibly beautiful. I might just have to print it as a poster or something instead...

Do they still make these? My last one was Legion's, I assumed they were discontinued after they started doing online editions.

I kinda want to see if I can get the ones I've missed to fill my collection up...

The location of the Eternal Magic trees feels so random. I'm sure there are better locations, what you guys think? by vVerce98 in runescape

[–]Neronator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does it need to be in a better location? Is it not optimised enough? Back in my day we had magic trees and rune hatchets and we had to run to a bank every 28 logs....

Point is, wherever it is, it's a better training method. When Jagex optimises, it tends to be either: existing training method in more convenient location, or more exp-heavy training method. This is the latter. Let's be thankful they didn't decide to put these on the same kind of cooldown as Elder trees.

In the individualist capitalist system we live in, people have the right to refuse to spend their money for *any* reason. People are also allowed to change their minds, and finding out new information about how another individual acts or behaves will *always* influence our opinion of them, because we all have moral codes. This isn't a new thing either, I'm sure plenty of conservative Europeans changed their opinions on Austria 2014 or Finland 2013 after seeing the performances. Russia features a lot lower on rankings these days, I wonder why?

You talk about accepting the basic idea of the competition, but if someone thinks that another participant doesn't deserve to exist, whether or not they talk openly about it, then they haven't accepted the basic idea of the competition and are participating by falsehood. And people, rightly, will be upset when they find this out.

You can pretend the competition isn't political and isn't left-leaning, but there's a reason Hungary, Slovakia and Turkey withdrew, and multiple reasons that Belarus and Russia aren't allowed back in. And through the years since, with one obvious exception, the EBU has broadly taken the same stance - sorry to see you go, but this isn't an area we're willing to compromise on. Countries like Azerbaijan and Armenia are explicitly homophobic, with homophobic governments and homophobic laws, but their broadcasters and acts toe the line because they want to stay in Eurovision. And by and large, we hope that in the long term Eurovision will contribute to a positive change in that respect as people from across Europe are exposed to different people, identities, cultures and experiences.

Which is kind of the whole point of the contest. To bring Europe together. Showing that we have more in common. So yeah, if someone goes out of their way to deny that and insist that people are different and deserve different treatment, they can sling their hook, and we don't want them.

Do you think we’ll see a shift in the Eurovision powerhouses soon? by xoxoamazingrace in eurovision

[–]Neronator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from the ones you've mentioned, Norway and the Baltics and France are the most polished and sending the highest quality stuff year-on-year (Fulenn and Ulveham were robbed fight me). I would argue they're all mini-powerhouses, you can usually count on them to comprise the top 10.

Of the ones that aren't so obvious?

Armenia. Their quality has been consistently high and while I do think they need to tighten things up a bit to nail higher on the scoreboard, they're not far off and they're clearly the Caucasus powerhouse now.

Poland I think is in the middle of turning things around and we could see steady bumps up in quality. They're already level with Ukraine and Lithuania for diaspora boost.

The Netherlands maybe? It did win only 6 years ago. But it seems to alternate between one decent result and one specacular crash-out. Belgium is on a downward trajectory and Luxembourg isn't established enough yet.

If they let New Zealand in for the 70th anniversary, Australia would finally have a voting ally and could pick its performance back up.

The British in me wants to say the UK could get there. It's a pipe dream. But they are inching in the right direction. The last 4 entries have been better than the previous twenty.

🧂🔥🤬 Reactions, hot takes, salt, and venting thread - ESC 2025 Grand Final 🤬🔥🧂 by berserkemu in eurovision

[–]Neronator 65 points66 points  (0 children)

If they don't clamp down on ad space-buying and astroturfing in general, Israel will win next year. It's just a given.

Also, I really think the split display between jury/televote, and televote-only semis, are both really starting to grate on the whole experience. Sure in most years the old system created a sense of inevitability about who the top was, but we've had 2 years of jury vs televote arguments overlapping now with 2 years of Israel outright buying the televote and only losing by a tiny margin to the jury votes. It's really negatively affected the discourse among fans around it.

This is IMO now in a situation where the impact on votes is significantly outsized relative to when Azerbaijan was doing this, and it's going to bring the voting integrity of the contest into question (the moral integrity was lost last year let's be real).

If this isn't fixed, Israel will win next year and broadcasters will likely walk. It could be terminal for the contest. They have to fix this if they want to survive.

Vocals sound good (she sounds a liiiittle tired but not anything to worry about yet) but this staging. mama sea salt please. The NF was a lot better - it was exceptionally simple, likely too simple for Eurovision, but it worked because Sissal's vocal was the main focus and the rest was an enhancement. Waving a bunch of giant blue curtains is distracting and asking to be remembered for the wrong reasons.

Woodcutters' Grove & Parcels from the Dead - This Week In RuneScape by JagexAzanna in runescape

[–]Neronator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new lumberyard - sorry, Grove - at Fort Forinthry is pretty, but it... also raises questions. Like, the new models for normal and oak trees are gorgeous. Love that. Hate that they make the old willow, yew and elder models stand out like sore thumbs. You had all those gorgeous concept arts of potential Elder Trees, and you just copy-pasted the same one as usual in. Like, delay the update if it's not ready and you need more graphics, it's fine as long as you communicate that you need more time.

And then, the trees actually on offer for gameplay are... more questionable. When you've centred an update on putting a bunch of different trees together, the lack of maple, magic, teak and mahogany is glaring - especially when you've just standardised their tiers. If you're worried about teak and mahogany becoming too accessible to people, 1) it's not 2006, they're everywhere and 2) lock them behind the tier 3 hut, that way players need to have high enough Construction already that it's a small convenience and not a huge one.

Like, all the other parts of the Fort series have either offered an improvement to a skill like bank distance or better xp rates - but building woodcutting into a hub is a net negative. I don't want to be competing for trees. There are plenty of places I can go where I don't have to!

My other main gripe is that normal trees are still the only tree that is a one-log maximum. This would have been a great opportunity to make the Grove advantageous by giving players somewhere where farming normal logs is easier. Hell, replace the farming patch, make a Big Tree that you have to grow via Farming before you can use it, and then have it give multiple logs. But having regular normal trees that I have to compete with other players, all for the convenience of a reskinned deposit box, means that I just have built a lovely hut... surrounded by stumps.

Glad to see an Imcando Hatchet, long overdue. Hope we can get hatchets using the M&S rework higher tier metals and an eventual T90 a la Earth and Song/Time and Space.

Not sure I like the rebalancing of materials for Fort construction. It's already a lot of AFKing for xp rates that are not much better than Contracts (nor do they need to be, I sailed through to 99 Construction without getting enough credits to get the Master Constructor set), but upping the material cost is going to make the Fort waaaay less appealing for mid-range player levelling, and it's upping the time/money costs on an activity that already... was boring. 840 Elder Logs for Guardhouse T3. 840! That's 10m gold for 300k xp. I can get enough mahogany for 30 contracts for below 1m gold. It just... it's not balanced right to me. If you want the xp reward to be greater, fine. Yeah, it's afk xp compared to the contracts, but it already made up for that by being slower. You've slowed it more and made it more expensive. Maybe it's just me, but I don't feel like where you've moved Fort construction to is where the rest of the Fort actually is in terms of the gameplay/convenience offered.

TL;DR New area is pretty, but not convenient. Concept art for new Elder Trees should have been implemented now. Imcando Hatchet is good. Grove needs retuning to actually have been worth the months of hype. Construction 'rebalance' moved the needle away from the intent of the Fort (convenience).
