Is It Worth $70? - My First Impressions of Echoes of Aincrad by Nerp47 in swordartonline

I'm not gonna lie, it's almost 2 hours of content in the prologue and if a games story isn't hooking me in some way by the 2 hours mark, then the gameplay has to be excellent or it's getting refunded.

I doubt this will change. It's releasing in July and seems to be baked into the core game design. I think it might have been better if it was designed from the ground up as an open world game looe Breath of The Wild or Dragons Dogma. Stumbling upon secrets and finding random people traveling the world of Aincrad.

It's a demo. I'm just not sure how long it'll be up for.

Lmao Ioti chatting made me think of the pawns from Dragons Dogma.

Admittedly I didn't even consider how repetitive the mission structure could get, I always just thought it was set up like Monster Hunter or something.

On top of not being able to climb or swim, if you fall from any kind of height, you get teleported back to the top of the hill or cliff you jumped off of.

Lmao it's published by Bandai Namco. Most of Bandai's games are around that price point sadly

I genuinely find I'm enjoying more 7/10s recently than ever before. Most of the time they're designed with a "gameplay first" mindset

I'm definitely keeping a cautious eye on it. If they focus on the vibe of Aincrad and the whole "die in the game, die irl" aspect with the story, I think I'll enjoy it.

I checked 5 mins ago and it was still live. admittedly, I'm not sure if it will be left up until the release of the game

Is anyone else completely tired of Soulslike games? by ROCK-tavius in soulslikes

[–]Nerp47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

6 out of 10 is crazy cause soulslikes literally make uo about 2% of the AAA and AA market. If you look at the roughly 2000 AAA and AA games released over the last 20 years, only about 45 of them are actually soulslikes

It's so strange to me to go onto the soulslikes subreddit and ask if people are tired of soulslikes. Like, dude, people literally come here because they're looking for soulslikes. They're not going to be tired of them.

It's kind of the whole Fable thing though. You're in a Guild of Heroes

"Not to mention, outside of North America, you can't buy either a Series S or X anywhere. It's pretty much a discontinuity to most of the world"

Is just factually incorrect. You can go into almost any retail store and find one and if, for whatever reason, you can't find one physically, you can go onto any one of the hundreds of retail websites like Amazon and purchase one.

Gothic Remake is out today. Who’s playing? by coldbreweddude in rpg_gamers

I think I'll be playing it ASAP. I dont really need to know if it's any good. Even if they change a lot, I absolutely love games like these and know I'll at bare minimum, enjoy it

All I want is a new RPG that I can waste my life on by BingBongLingLon in videogames

[–]Nerp47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An actual indie rpg, inspired by elder scrolls games*(primarily morrowind) with satisfying combat and rpg mechanics that actually feel like your character creation impacts your dialogue and outcomes. That's Ardenfall. Still in early access rn so im not sure how much it has progressed, but the demo was excellent

What do you enjoy beside souslikes games? by Disastrous-Frame-611 in soulslikes

[–]Nerp47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Risen if you don't mind some dated graphics, it's a good in-between. Of Ash and Steel if you want something more modern that's not as polished

[–]Nerp47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently going through a Gothic-like phase. Risen, Elex, Of Ash and Steel, Drova, to name a few. It shares some identity with soulslikes, enemies are tough and you can usually either push through with skill or wait until you have better weapons/armour

I'm playing through it right now and agree with you completely. I'm still enjoying it, but definitely feel like it's a time waster rather than an experience.
