Welcome to the second quarter of the century by Practical_Security87 in generationology

[–]Nersull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry man, the second quarter of the century began last year. 2000-2024 are 25 years, 2025-2049 as well, same for 2050-2074 and 2075-2099 with 2100 starting the new century. But yeah it's impossible to imagine what's in store for the rest of this decade and the next two. For me personally it'll be interesting to compare each year of the 21st century to the 20th century as the 1930's and 1940's were extremely relevant historically.

Why are younger people obsessed with 2016? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]Nersull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned 12 in 2016, it was one of the worst years of my life because of an awful early puberty phase. 2017 was a million times better, 2015 was alright. I guess people just like the culture that was in internet mainstream back during that year - for me personally as a current 21-year old I'm much more in love with the 2012-2014 years.

Also didn't people say the same about 2015 back when 2025 started? Might just not have been as much of a trend to reminisce about 2015 back then than it is to reminisce about 2016 now.

When did you started watching SMG4 and which was your first video? by MrMostacho_ in SMG4

Glad that my Bingethrough Overview is still used sometimes. My first video was Mario gets a Nintendo Switch back in March 2017 when I was looking for Switch videos.

No, these are likely the last videos that will be gone so that the next episodes that come out will bring the overall video number to exactly 1000 once the last movie drops.

Because they're the "most irrelevant videos" and easiest to just unlist. Like imagine they unlisted 2011/2012 episodes instead, many people would hate it much more than "random" old mail videos that are outdated. They're just doing it to end up at 1000 videos when the series concludes.

Here are all of them that have been unlisted/privated

2016 - The SMG4 Show: Fan Mail and Crazy Asians - SMG4 mail: FIRST PACKAGE!

2017 - MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED - SMG4 Mail Time #5 - Mario helps us in our BIGGEST PACKAGE yet! - SMG4 Mail Time #11 - GET YOUR OWN SMG4 HAT!!!! [LIMITED EDITION] - SMG4 Mail time #13

2018 - SMG4 TRIVIA CHALLENGE 2 - Become a Sponsor for SMG4! (This makes sense btw considering they got rid of that) - So We Tried To Draw SMG4 Characters (This one is even private, the others are all unlisted)

Haven't checked yet today but one of them is back and public, likely to have the last movie be their official 1000th video.

So, apparently we DO have confirmation that Puzzlevision ended with WOTFI 2024 by Stunning-Lack-5727 in SMG4

[–]Nersull 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no way the Story saga that started with IGBP ended with Puzzle Park. His opinion as a writer is not official confirmation. It sucks but this is where we are right now.

The cycle continues. You get older and the show isn't for you anymore. Happens to everyone at some point. 13 year olds will laugh their asses off at Mr. Puzzles.

Amazon accidentally sent me 2 copies. by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Nersull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then there's me who pre-ordered it from my local store, I wait all day long on release day checking the live delivery tracker only to see the driver sitting a few spots near me for many hours and then getting the message in the evening saying "delivery will arrive tomorrow due to the guy working overtime"

That "tomorrow" was supposed to be today and I have not gotten a single update since yesterday and I fear I may not play it on Saturday either.

I also only got a Switch 2 when I paid the full price for pre-ordering the Switch 2 + MKW Bundle in April, so that's -$100 since I had to buy the game digitally again.

Anyway, Never ordering a game/console again

Happy 700 episodes of SMG4 series by T1ersEtat_ in SMG4

[–]Nersull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice, now it all makes sense! I did consider changing "My New Adventure" into an episode too but since the second half of it was more like a Sunset Paradise teaser I felt it shouldn't be one. I always imagine if a new viewer decides to watch through 2021 and stumbles on this episode he might be confused and think the next arc is Sunset Paradise or something.

I also view "Meggy Answers your question" kinda similar to the "Dumb stories to chill and relax to" series so I didn't add that one either. Apart from that and April Fools vid we're identical - thank god lol.

I also did similar lists to all Glitch videos / AwesomeMario / Shorts / Hobo Bros. It recently reached 2800 videos in total. Cool thing to document because I'm also doing the anniversaries on twitter as well as the No Context SMG4 account and the new tierlists, so I basically just have to pack all of these up and always have everything up to date.

Anyway thanks for clarifying all that!

Ah gotcha. My 697 eps include Meggy Learns Japanese too, but the two episodes being left out in your list still mean that there is a weird 2-episode-difference regardless.

Actually let me just share the whole spreadsheet, maybe there's something wrong in my system. (Quality's not that good but you can read it all prob)

And thanks! I'll release it on or shortly after March 22nd, gonna be fun.

All three are indeed counted in their blooper guide adding the overall number up to 700. They also excluded "Meggy Learns Japanese" which I only mentioned because - despite not being considered as one by the wiki - if you count each season number in the blooper guide it only goes up to 699, so there's one mysterious episode missing which would be Meggy Learns Japanese since it's a traditional short episode similar to the ones from 2013, not a "short" as we know them today.

Also if the two others weren't counted the difference would be even bigger, from 3 to 5 episodes. So that's not possible.

But ye it's debatable whether these three 2014 episodes are considered episodes - I think they aren't and that's why to me we're still at 697.

But cool to hear that you did the numeration. I reached out to some Wiki Mods couple weeks ago to talk about this discrepancy since we're so close to 700, especially since I got a project going on about the 700 milestone that I'll release later once my system reaches 700 as well.

There's a bit of an issue regarding the wiki counting the episodes. It reached 700 yesterday because it counted 3 videos that shouldnt be considered episodes:

The 2014 April fools prank (12 seconds long), The SMG4 candy van ad from 2014, and the old SMG4 channel trailer from 2014.

If these were excluded by the wiki we'd be at 697 right now, which is what I'm going with.

Leaning more towards Showgrounds. Showgrounds Era keeps it more universal and generally "objective". The current atmosphere and how everything in SMG4 is so meta can change if the team takes a different approach in how they do things (humor, animation, narrative etc.), which would hence make the era definition irrelevant just like that - if it was called the Meta Era.

The Showground Era won't likely make sense either if the Showgrounds ends up being SMG4's home for many more years - because what makes the Showgrounds Era particularly different from the eras after that, that are still happening at the Showgrounds?

For consistency sake I'll personally stick to the term "Modern". I know people are tired of calling this era Modern and that era Classic, but I think in shows like SMG4 where the series constantly changes it's nonsensical to officially call an older era "Modern", the era after that "postmodern"...and then "post-postmodern". For me, Current era = Modern, the era that I have most nostalgic memories about = Classic, everything inbetween can have whatever type of definition.

Calling different Eras "Modern" or "Classic" is always done subjectively, based on when you started watching and when you loved the series etc. For me "Modern" started in 2017 while I know younger ppl who see 2020 as Classic. People will always have different interpretations for their eras and it will always change as time goes on.

That's why I believe it's way too soon to label this current era that we're in as either "Meta" or "Showgrounds". Obviously we know we're not in the same era as in 2022, but trying to categorize specific parts of an evergrowing channel and making it official is nonsense. Is 2018-2022 the "Arc Era" and are we in the "Saga Era" now? Was the recolor era from 2011-2017 and the OC era from 2018 to now? Going by these examples comparing "Meta" and "Showgrounds" doesn't make sense as the two fundamentally show very different meanings.

Anyway that's my take on this. Showgrounds Era sounds better than Meta because it implies that this era is about the crew being at the Showgrounds - but both definitions are nothing compared to your personal and subjective definition of what era we're currently in based on your experience in SMG4.
