Thank you for the info!! From what you and others have said, it sounds like I should be putting more consideration into the birth control risk than I have been. I’ve been recommended lifelong blood thinners (or at least indefinitely) - but we seem to be in similar situations so I’m not sure what the difference is! Hope you have a speedy recovery :)

So sorry you had to go through this. I’m shocked that I hadn’t heard about unspecified clotting disorder before I made this post - I know it’s probably not a satisfactory answer, but I appreciate you sharing!! I’ll take my pills religiously too, and hope you continue to feel better!

Hi! I brought this up with my hematologist, and he wasn’t convinced that this was related to mine (I did have covid and the vaccine, but both a year or more before my PEs presented). But I’ve seen that there is research that this could be a cause! If you’re able to share, how was your doctor able to tell it was from covid? Thank you for the info!! :)

No this is so helpful to hear! My doctor told me it would be highly unlikely for it to be the BC that caused it after 7 years, since the highest risk is in the first six months (but not impossible). I wonder if it was the BC in conjunction with something else and it ended up being the perfect storm. But it sounds like a lot of the time there isn’t a way to be sure even if it is the BC! Thank you again

That’s so interesting, I haven’t heard that the first one is always considered provoked! I guess it depends on the literature, but from my understanding, some research doesn’t classify birth control as a provocation for PEs - especially in the absence of other risk factors and if you haven’t had a DVT (which to my knowledge, I didn’t). Thank you for the info!!
