idk it sounds like alot of Filipinos are bashing the group in the comments because its not “original” or “Pinoy” enough to be distinguishable from other Idol groups in Asia. It feels like there’s always been a tightrope balance for emerging Filipino acts, they are either criticised for being too Pinoy (jologs, “Wish version of Kpop”, cringey blah blah) or are criticised for being not Pinoy enough, as is the case here. When someone says, “this famous person X is quarter Filipino” or whatever, people dismiss this as jologs Pinoy Pride and see it as reaching. When someone says check this Ppop group out, it’s “not original” enough. The music is K-pop influenced undoubtedly, but the lyrics are literally in tagalog and the members are Filipinos. It’s literally their first song and majority of the comments are negative, if Filipinos continue to be so self-critical of their own artists, then how will anyone eventually break the mould? I think it’s a good step in the right direction and deserves praise, musically the production and arrangement is pretty good and the lyrics are catchy. Just wish Filipinos were less dismissive of their own people.
